I purchased iMatch because my old computer was failing and I was afraid of losing my music library. Now I bought a new laptop; what is the best way for me to transfer my library to my new laptop? Will iMatch help me do this?

Is/was failing or has failed?
If the old computer still runs one of these methods may be best.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
I don't have personal experience with iTunes Match, but in principle you should be able to download all the tracks currently registered to your iTunes Match account. This isn't quite the same as restoring your previous library exactly as it was. There is always the potential for iTunes match to provide the wrong version of a song and could be content such as movies, podcasts, audiobooks etc. that would have been excluded.

  • What's the best way for me you display my ipad on to my laptop which will then be on a projector

What is the bext way for me to mirror my iPad to my Windows 8 laptop?  I installed Reflector mirroring software which works fine from home as my Network is compatible with the Reflector software, however, when I try and use/display via other places, it doesn't work.  Aparently this is due to some networks not having the capabilities.
    Any suggestions please?

When networks can't support the refloctor application here are other choices
    a) Use an Elmo Document camera for hardware, and use the Elmo software called imageMate to show the ipad screen on the screen of your laptop/desktop.   It works better than Reflector, because you also get the fingers of the ipad operator.   If you are training people how to use an ipad app, the finger gestures are essential, and left out of the reflector Application
    b) Try this guide ( 5 ways to show ipad on a projector )

  • What is the best way for my wife to sync her Outlook contacts to her new iPad Air?

What is the best way for my wife to sync her Outlook contacts to her new iPad Air?  I don't know very much about Microsoft (almost nothing).  Does she need to plug into one of the USB ports on her Microsoft computer (about 5 years old)?  I also have an iMac (that I use for syncing but she needs her contacts from Outlook.  She doesn't really want all of them...there are 1,000's of teachers that work in her district and she does no tent to add 1,000's of contacts.

If she only has a few she can e-mail those contacts to herself, open that mail on her iPad and save them from there.

Before you go, move the files to I tunes and sync them down.  There is no viable way to stream from your nas drive to the pad.

  • What is the best way to back-up my entire library, and How??

I need to back up my library before somethings happens!!  What is the best way to do that?  Also how do you restore it back on your itunes???

    My 2 cents...
Fast backup for iTunes library  (Windows)
Grab SyncToy  2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time.
If your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes, regardless of the drive letter or path it appears on.
    Step-by-step install guide
You restore files simply by copying them back to where they are missing from, or copy back the entire folder in the event of a major disaster.

  • What's the best way to associate your MobileMe apple ID with a new email

Just wanted to know the best way to get my MobileMe acct to be the same email as iCloud's.   It must go that direction and not have iCloud assoc with email for MobileMe.
    Thanks!

So you have two iCloud accounts now?  If I understand you correctly you migrated your old mobileme email to a new iCloud account, and you created a second iCloud account with a new @me.com email?
In that case, no worries about your iTunes content or app purchases made previously.  As I say, your AppleID is just the email address you registered when you created the account - literally, AppleID=email address.  So it does not matter that the old @me.com address has been migrated to iCloud.  As long as that is still a valid and verifiable address, then that address=AppleID lives on just as before.  Just login to iTunes and the app store with the same ID you've used previously.

  • What is the best way to re-build an iphoto library with 10,000+ images?

The iphoto built in library rebuild function does not find the 10,000 photos that are in my originals and data folders. Why not? Also, If I use the Fat Cat software to build a new library will it it create 10,000 new files?
I eventually want to remove these files from my computer all together, but I want to organize them first.
These photos used to be in iphoto, but when I upgraded to Mountain Lion my iphoto library kind of emptied itself.
Honestly, I would skip putting these 10,000 photos back into iphoto and simply put them on an external if finding the files in the iphoto library "folder" wasn't so complicated. It's not nesessary for me to store all of my photos on my laptop hard drive, but I'm an artists and a documentor so i would like to keep them.
Thanks for any and all advice!!!
I've been reading lots of threads on here and the information is soooo good and helpful. At least now I have some idea of how iphoto works where a few days ago it felt like magic!

    Yes, move them:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Do you think iphoto's normal rebuild function might work when I'm telling it to look for my externally located library?
Impossible to say, but worth a try. If not then:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • What is the best way to ship a Mac Pro from Australia to New York

I am migrating from Melbourne Australia to New York next month and naturally, i want my Mac Pro to come along for the ride.
Has anyone expereienced a move like this?  Who would you reccommend as a transport company?

Computers are a commodity. They have no art value. We can become very attached to them, but they are interchangeable.
I recommend you seriously consider selling your computer in Australia, and buying a new one when you get to New York. I can't see shipping 65 lb chassis halfway around the world.
The only part that is at all delicate is the Hard drives. Once the heads are parked, they are not that delicate any more. As long as you pack the rest so that it cannot rattle in the box, it will be fine.
Apple uses styrofoam as the packing material inside the corrugated box because it absorbs crushing energy by deforming. It is not an accident that it is also used inside bike and motorcycle helmets. Resilient foam (like a couch cushion) is springy, but does not absorb or dissipate the crushing energy of an accident or a fall.

  • What's the best way to back up my PIM from Lifedrive to new Vista laptop?

Nothing Palm related is installed on this laptop yet, which is running 32-bit Vista.  Lifedrive used mainly for contacts, calendar, photos, few games, and Docs to Go files.  I don't use Outlook - used to use Lotus Notes but no longer - no need to access email of any type on the PDA (currently).
What is recommended for a trouble-free sync of calendar and contacts to a simple PIM program like Palm Desktop - and which program/version?
    thanks!
    Post relates to: LifeDrive

I'm going to try Palm Desktop 6.2.  I hope it works... I need to spend my time looking for a job, not troubleshooting my device software.

  • What is the best way to manage my iTunes accounts/libraries on my new iMac

I just bought a new iMac and I'm stymied as to what I should do in terms of importing my old iTunes music.
    Here's what I've got:
    1 new iMac
1 desktop PC with MY iTunes account (once I take the iTunes music off of here, I'll be done with this computer)
1 laptop PC with my wife's iTunes account - (this laptop will still be used for a while to come)
2 iPhones - each one is currently set to our individual accounts.
    What I want:
My wife and I no longer need separate iTunes accounts (if that makes it easier in the long run...?). I'd like to have all music combined from our PCs and playable on the new iMac. Also, I want the entire library playable on the laptop. I'd like to be able to make purchases on either computer and have them available on either computer without too much hassle, but I'm not sure this is even possible. And, of course, I'd like to be able to sync each of our iPhones to the iMac but with different users (pulling from the same library, but with different apps on each - if possible).
Needless to say, I've convinced myself this is the most confusing iMac/iTunes migration ever. I'm a Mac newbie, so I'm sure you guys know a lot more and have good suggestions for what I should do. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

    Hi
Thanks for that. But do I have to us the external disc, moving it from PC to Mac or is there a better way?. Can you directly connect the systems. I assume wifi is too slow as the size is about 10G

  • What is the best way for my wife and I to dump our photos into 1 iCloud library?

We have a large library of photos.  We both take a bunch of pictures from our own separate iPhone and want to be able for all those photos to go into one place.  We purchased the $0.99 iCloud backup for her and the same for me.  (We both have separate Apple IDs).
Can't I just purchase the 200 GB storage, throw our photo library in it, share it with her, and have both of our new and future pics dumped into it?  If so, how do I do that?
Thanks for any help I can get!

The iCloud Photo Library cannot be shared between users, unless you are using the same AppleID.
You can share selected photos with shared albums:  iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ
Or create a Photos library on an external drive, that you both can access, as described here for iPhoto:   iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users

  • What is the best way to back up an iPhoto Library to an external hard drive?

I have a very large photo library, and I manage all of my photos with iPhoto. I want to back some of them up to an external hard drive, but still have them accessible from iPhoto (when the hard drive is plugged in). I thought it would be as easy as dragging the photos from iPhoto to the external hard drive, but I found out the photos are actually stored in the "package contents" of the iPhoto library. There are several folders in the package contents folders, and it is very confusing.
Should I use time machine to back up my iphoto library? If not, what should I use?

That's exporting photos, not splitting a library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • What is the best way to backup my Macbook Pro before I install new operating system?

I want to back it up externally. I don't know how to burn a CD on my macbook and that may be an option. What other options are out there that will back up everything stored on my laptop. Thanks!

DO BOTH, your data is worth more than the price of drives these days. (Think about about what your data is worth to you vs. a few bucks.
Most of the long time users here advocate this method, a clone, and a TM data backup.
I also use an archive drive to store pics, vids, music, to keep my internal drive relatively empty. his helps keep the internal drive from having to search extensively (taking more time & putting more use on it, increasing the failure factor) while still having the backups... well for backups, and this allows me to access and manipulate those files without disrupting the back ups.
I think I spent about $400 for the 3 drives, well worth it, it's not if your drive will fail, rather when.
