I want to transfer my entire iTunes "folder" from a newer iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 machine running iTunes 10.7 to an older iMac running OSx 10.5.8. How best to do this and keep all my data, tags and covers in tact?

Firstly, time to get rid of the 2 x 512MB FBDIMMs in there, they add more heat and use more watts then they add to the system. If you need more, and 4 or 8 DIMMs is ideal, Amazon has 2x2GB sets $22 - about 1/50th what I paid for 1GB new.
Buy a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD $129
Pick up Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com to clone the system to the SSD
A sled adapter for the SSD from Icy Dock $14 Amazon.com
7-8 years overdue for new system drive! amazed it lasted this long. An SSD plus some WD Black 2TB drives or larger should do the trick.
you can also put the SSD in the lower optical drive bay and use one of the two ODD "spare" SATA ports for the SSD - an SSD is the best way to improve the performance of our old Mac Pro 2006-7 models.
When you downloaded the Lion installer that was when to create a flash type installer with Lion DiskMaker.
If you have put in a new-ish graphic card then OS X 10.6.0 may not support it.

  • Lost my iP 3G - How do I use iP 2G until iP 4 is here and keep all my data?

Lost my iP 3G - How do I use iP 2G until iP 4 is here and keep all my data?
Ok so this is a bit complicated - I left my iPhone 3G in a cab last weekend and unfortunately it's lost for good. I still have my original iPhone 2G and have already went to AT&T for a new Sim Card. I want to use the old phone until the iPhone 4 is out in 2 weeks..... My question is how do I Restore/Back Up/Sync the old iPhone so I can retrieve all the information from my lost 3G and not lose any of the data. I know a lot of the newest software (3.1.3) is not supported on the old iPhone. In addition, how do I make sure that I am able to transfer all the origninal data from my lost 3G, as well as all the new data that I acquire on the iPhone 2G i'm using now onto the new iPhone 4 when I get one in a few weeks???
Very confusing I know, I just want to make sure all my data is safe and I don't make a blockheaded mistake of erasing some or any of it.....
Thanks to all you iPhone geniuses out there willing to provide feedback!!!

Well thank you for knowing the Terms of Use like it was your job Mr. Ian Parkinson. Forgive me for being the only person ever to sign up on here that simply clicked through to agree to terms without reading everything line by line. Yes I have only a handful of posts, I simply had a single question that I assumed would be answered quickly if I posted it into similar categories. It's too bad I couldn't have consulted with you first, the All Knowing and All Great Oz who has memorized the entire Terms of Use and has 6,000 posts on here..... I am simply not worthy in your presence, please strike me down with a fireballs from your eyes and bolts of lightning from your arse!

  • Can I create a new account and keep all of my purchases and downloads?

Can I create a new account and keep all of my old content? Recently got divorced and share the itunes account with my ex. I want a new account but do not want to lose all of my old content. Is this possible?

    Kmiller,
Get a copy of the entire iTunes library and copy it to the computer that you will be using from now on.
iTunes Plus songs will still be playable, as will any "normal" MP3s that were purchased from Amazon or ripped from CD.
Any "protected" content from the iTunes Store, such as movies, shows, or pre-2009 songs, will not be playable.  If you need to replace any such items with playable copies, a cost will be incurred.  Make sure to account for this in the property settlement.

  • I deactivated my apple id and want to add another id to my icloud acc,how can I do this without deleting all my data from my ph?

There is an option to delete the account, but then it says it will delete all my data, which I dont want to happen.

When you delete icloud account off your phone it will ask you if you want to keep or delete the data. You will choose to keep and will be ok. The only thing that will reset is photostream, so if that is a concern, back up your pictures.

  • HT1212 my phone is disabled and says connect to iTunes but i want to recover and save all my data's and pictures before restore

my phone is disabled and says connect to itunes but i want to recover my data's and pictures before restoring it with itunes.

You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you haven't synced it to that computer before then you won't have a backup on it to restore your content from. Do you have any of your content on it for re-sycning and/or have you been backing up to the cloud ?
You can re-download your apps (if they are still in the store) via the Purchased tab in the App Store app, and you may be able to re-download music, films and tv shows via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.

  • TS1591 My ipod classic (80gb) won't sync with my mac & itunes. How can i fix this without losing all my data? (ie. music, photos, video)

My ipod classic is still working, its not frozen or anything. It just won't sync up with my macbook and itunes. I recently realized that I had previously connected it to a PC just to charge it then it when i tried to connect it to my mac, it wouldn't sync up. Can someone help me figure this out? I don't want to lose all of my data though, like music, photos, or videos. Any help is appreciated! Thank you for your time!

okay, I don't know about the rest, but about the songs never actually loading onto your iPod, I found in another discussion how to fix that. I'm using Windows 7, so I don't know if the steps are the same, but the end result is the same. So go into your Start menu, then into accessories, right click 'Command Prompt' and click 'Run as administrator'. Then type in the following: netsh winsock reset then press Enter. After a few seconds it should tell you to to restart your computer for changes to take effect. Restart your computer, then restart iTunes, then everything should be working fine. It still takes forever sometimes to update the iPod, but eventually it will work. I've had to do this multiple times, so I'd suggest copying & pasting this solution into a notepad or Word document and saving it on your computer, so you don't have to go through the discussions again to find it. This tends to happen to me nearly every day unfortunately Hope this fixes that problem, but I'm not having any of the other problems fortunately, except for removing the artwork of the songs it updates without me asking it too. PS I think my problem may be with iOS 5, because iTunes 10.5 came out before iOS 5, and I think everything was fine before I updated my iPod, but I really don't know where the problem lies

  • I had my i-pod synked to my old computer and i lost that computer, now i have a new one, can i synk it to my i-pod and keep all the data thats on the i-pod

i had my i-pod synced to my old computer and i lost that computer. now i have a new one , and i want to sync it to my i-pod can i do that and save all my music

    iPod classic?
    Recover media from iPod
See this post from forum regular Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer.
    ... or iPod touch?
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Problems with my Firefox so I changed browser to Google Chrome and lost all Firefox bookmarks, tags and other sites how do i retrieve those?

I kept getting performance issues with Firefox 3.6 from the add-ons to crashes. I then chose to try Google Chrome as the main browser and somehow it uninstalled the Mozilla Firefox and all the toolbars, bookmarks and all were uninstalled without importing.
On one hand it's good since the browser is cleaner and functioning better now especially after many attempts with YouTube and other video streaming sites.
Is there a way to retrieve all those lost items or are they considered gone?
    Thanks for your assistance.

Please read this article about restoring bookmarks:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
As far as your passwords are concerned, I don't think there's anything you can do. But for the future, you can use the following add-ons to avoid any future loss:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/
    or
    http://www.xmarks.com/
    Both are good.
And a simple way to import your bookmarks (since you already saved it on your desktop as html) is:
Bookmarks / Organized Bookmarks / Import and Export
    Good luck.

  • Need best procedure for adding new start-up disc and keeping all original data.

We are adding a new (bigger)SATA drive to our 8-core Xeon Mac Pro and would like to clone the original startup disk to the new drive and use it to boot from.
If you know of the best and surefire way to do this and not have any permission issues or any issues please advise.
    Thank you in advance.

    A. Carbon Copy Cloner
    B. use the big drives for media folders, libraries, data
    C. use smaller fast drive for system - $110 will buy a 1TB WD Black or Samsung 830 SSD, $150 will buy a 10K 250GB VR

Maybe you want to move all your sub-folders in your account to another drive - the new 2-4TB model (enterprise, not green)

  • I was using an apple id, but now I wanna use a new apple id and keep all the data which i stored in the old one. Is that possible to do that?

I was used one apple id for 2 phones.
But now, I would like to use a new apple id but store back the old data from the old apple id.
Is that possible to do that?

No it is not. Purchases are forever tied to the Apple ID that they were purchased with.
However, if you want to change your Apple ID, and it is not an @me.com, @mac.com, or @iCloud.com email address, you can log on to Manage your Apple ID with your current ID and password, then click on the EDIT button next to the Apple ID. You can change it to any valid email address that is not an Apple domain email address (the @me, @mac, @icloud mentioned above):
    Apple - My Apple ID

  • My Netscape 7.2 has become very unstable and unuseable(Netscape will close now,etc.). How do I install Firefox over it and keep all my data? Thanks.

I have XP Pro SP2, 2 gigs, AMD 64x2 5200 at 2.7Ghz. I did a reinstall of my original 7.2 setup file that I have stashed in a folder. It does not find the current mozilla folder and hence nothing works without setting up profiles etc. I was thinking for a long time of getting another browser and mail handler. I have 30 years as a computer tech and know how to use regedit and get to mozilla *.mab and *.html files in the mozilla folder.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Netscape 7.2 is a combined web browser and mail client, Firefox is just a web browser. You may want to consider using [http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ SeaMonkey] instead. It is based on the same code as Firefox but also includes a built-in mail client.
If you want to go with Firefox, see [[Importing bookmarks and other data from Mozilla Application Suite]], it shows how to import data from Netscape 7. If you want an email program as well, Mozilla's offering is [http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird].

  • I have a new computer and want to sync my phone and all it's apps to my new computer. How do I do this without loosing all of my apps?

    I
I have had a total meltdown of my system and have had to rebuild my computer because of a lightning strike which took out my main computer and my backup system therefore I do not have a way to restore all of my old files. When I rebuilt my computer I decided to go with Windows 7 rather than staying with Windows Vista when I attach my Apple iPhone to the new computer and tried to sync it, it tells me that it wants to wipe out everything on my phone. My iPhone was backed up to the cloud but I do not see way to restore it from the cloud and I do not want to lose all of my apps and data that are on my iPhone. I have gone to the Apple online store to see if I could restore the apps that I have purchased from their and have not been able to find anything that relates to reinstalling all the apps that I have purchased as well as my bookmarks and addresses as well as a lot of the data in documents to go and do not want to lose them as it is the only place that I have them left. How do I do this without losing all of my apps and data that is on my iPhone?
Please help out of this nightmare and keep me loyal to iPhone.
This has become an all day and night ordeal.

  • Clean 10.6.8 or ML 10.8 and keeping all mail accounts intact

Over the past year or so the Mac Pro Twin quad Core 3.z Gh Xeon 2008 had been gettin gmore and more cranky.
Sys prefs keeps crashing when starting, light room freezes, lots of other apps often freeze too, with the spining beach ball of death.  Once a week now or more I have to Press and Hold the power buttong as the whole system just locks, either in use or on shutdown.
Have Google'd the many and various problems tried many solution, all no good..Disk repairs and veryigy / permsiiosn ..deleting plists etc etc.
So looks like a complater reisntall is required.
ML does run on this machine, as I have isnstalled from disk on a partition on the Mac HD.
    Machine has Four HDD.
The users Home Folders stored on a seperate HDD
How do I go about this and keep ALL my Mail settings and folders etc.
Can I jsut stick in the ML disk and let it upgrade all or will there be a massive headache in getting mail sorted and transfered across?  When I did the previous ML install, it was a 'Standalone ' install on a seperate partition, and did not let it tinker with my Mail and user folders.
How do I go about this?
