Your purchased music is availble for download again at no cost.  If you have iTunes match service, you can download your matched music.

I only "clicked" on "Backup" when I connected the new phone to my computer. I was afraid to click on "Restore Backup" to have all the other information I had from my other iPhone load up to my new iPhone. Hope you can help. What is the difference between "Backup" and "Restore Backup"; is all that different from synching.Thanks. Ana

That's up to you. Do you want the data on your old phone on your new phone? If so, you follow the directions here:

If you want to setup your new phone as a new device, then there is nothing you need to do.

Did iTunes match complete its scan of your iTunes library on your computer? Do you have a back up on an ext HD?
I Suggest that you read this Subscribing to iTunes from an iOS device.

  • I would like to know why, after updating mozilla, my gmail doesn't work properly. Specifically the chat client.

The chat client doesn't load the option to respond in chat. I can get messages from my friends but am not allowed to type back. This only became an issue after updating my firefox browser. I tried to revert to the prior gmail (as i am testing their newer version) and that didn't resolve the issue.

  • I would like to be able to take a video from my camera and download it to several iPads for playback without using iTunes?  Possible?

I am taking a video for high school and would like to be able to download on multiple iPads without using iTunes.  Is there an app that would aid me in doing this?

If you have the Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK) and the video that your camera generates is in one of the formats tha the iPad supports then you can directly move it to the iPad with a USB connection.

  • I have IMAC 10.6.8 version , Would like to know if I change to MAVERICK OS I WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM in terms of my existing files etc

I have personal data and other files stored in OS

Although upgrading shouldn't damage your data/personal files, before any upgrade it is essential you have tried and tested full backup (Time Machine or a clone) so that you can restore to the previous state if things go wrong, or for whatever reason you want to revert.
Check the tech specs to make sure your Mac is compatible with the upgrade, and although 2gb RAM is stated as the requirement, real world use suggests that anything less than 4gb and Mavericks will be a very slow performer:
    https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
A possible problem you may face is that older PowerPC apps will no longer work in Mavericks (or Lion, Mountain Lion) as Rosetta, which enabled older apps to run is no longer supported/included in the OS. Check carefully the compatibility of any apps you rely on in your workflow. Here's a fairly comprehensive compatibility list:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps
You could be faced with having to upgrade or replace several apps.

  • I sometimes have over 1000 junk emails clogging my phone.  I would like to know if there is a way to 'select all' in order to delete them.  Deleting emails often takes me ungodly time.

Please let me know if there is a way to select all emails and delete them.  Selecting, scrolling, selecting and scrolling is tedious when you have 1000-2000 junk emails to wade through.

At the top of this page, click your name, where yours says "Welcome, linda166":
Click the link "Manage email notifications":
Click the checkbox at the upper right - to the right of where it says "Date" - this selects all of the messages on the page:
Click the button "Remove selected notifications":
Click "Next" and repeat for each page. You may have less than 213 pages.

  • HT201250 After Time Machine has backed up my files, can I delete my originals from my Mac and do something in Time Machine to ensure it will never automatically delete them from the backup in the future?

I'm new to using Time Machine - I'm making my first backup right now - and I have a few concerns.
So let's say my precious photos are taking up most of my Mac's hard drive space. I back them up with Time Machine on an external hard drive. After that, I want to delete my photos from my Mac because I want more space and my photos are now stored in the external hard drive. I have a few questions about that.
First, does Time Machine's backup system follow the same concept as having extra storage (so would this be a reasonable decision to make)?
Second, if it does, then could I access/open these photos from Time Machine's backup anytime I want?
Third, would I need to use the restore backup function of Time Machine every time I want to open my photos are there alternative ways of accessing my photos, like through opening directory paths to the photos?
Lastly, when the external hard drive becomes full and Time Machine wants to delete my oldest backup files, what can I do to ensure that these photos will never get deleted unless I manually do it? Like, is there a way to lock and secure these files? Or, is it like if these photos are the only copies saved in the backup, I can rest assure that Time Machine will never delete them?
    Thanks

Since my new external hard drive is have a lot of space, I'm thinking of splitting it for Time Machine and external storage.
This is a common mistake and I highly advise against it.
1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.
3: The storage drive might become a portable need, with it being on the TM drive, now your increasing the risk to the TM backup that something could happen to it along with the storage drive, due to increased movement.

  • HT204406 How do I access greyed out songs on the ipod touch after subscribing to iTunes Match?

I have just subscribed to iTunes March and now I cannot access my songs on the iPod Touch. The songs can be seen but are greyed out. ANyone know what I need to do?

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes.  If iTunes asks for the passcode and yu can't enter the passcode or you do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:

  • Hello I wrote a technical french book on " iBooks Author" and I would like to Know witch catégorie I should choose?

hello I wrote a technical french book on " iBooks Author" and I would like to Know witch catégorie I should choose?

Sorry,  I  cannot remember all teh  many options of category and sub categories offered during the delivery process.
A very simple solution for you is to use Google Translate to convert the category  titles  to French
Another option is  to  use the iBooks store -  search for books made with iBooks Author  open a few preview / sample books to look at the information page and check which categories are used the most... and use the same!

  • Three annoying issues we would like to know how to fix

Three issues with our new iMac that we would like to know how to fix:
    1. Sometime (not always) when we shut it down it restarts instead.
    2. Sometimes (not always) the display won't sleep.
    3. Time Machine keeps asking us if we want to use an external drive for backup. We say no. We don't even have Time Machine on so why does it keep asking us this?
Can you tell us please how to fix any of these issues?
    Thank you.

Is your software up-to-date; Mac OS X, Security, Firmware, etc?
Try resetting both the SMC and the PRAM.
    Reset the PRAM
    • (Re)start the computer
    • Immediately press & hold the CommandOption+PR keys
    • Wait for two startup chimes
    • Release the keys and allow the computer to boot.
    Reset the SMC
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Detach the computer's power cord.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Reattach the computers power cable.
    • Turn on the computer.

  • I will be going to the Dominican Republic to a resort and would like to know if I need an adapter for my mac and if so what kind and where would I get it.

I will be going to a resort in the Dominican Republic and would like to know if I need an adapter or some kind of special plug for my mac.

You won't need a power adaptor since the AC adaptor auto-switches, but you may need a wall socket adaptor such as in the World Travel Kit on the Apple Store or from AAA or some department stores' luggage and travel section.

  • "The disk cannot be used because it is not recognized"

I have a MacPro (Sept. 2008 model) and now I tried to burn a CD, when I insert the CD-R it will recognize the CD insertion and ask me if I want to mount it with finder, I click yes and then it gives me this error and it doesn't mount:
*"The disk cannot be used because it is not recognized"*
I also tried a DVD+R and it gives me the same error, but when I insert a CD or DVD that is not a recordable media it mounts perfectly. Anyone knows how to correct this?
I inserted the same CD-R in my Aluminum MacBook (late 2008) and it worked perfectly, I was able to burn it without a problem.

This gets more strange by the moment. Toast will see AND burn the blank DVD/CDs when inserted, at least when using the PowerMac's internal Pioneer burner. (I haven't tried it on the external TDK burner.) I changed DVD/CD System Preferences from "Show in Finder" to "Launch Toast Titanium" and had no problems. The application launched on DVD insert and did the data burn flawlessly, though a bit slower than I remember it being on Tiger.
But there is still this inconsistency between the PowerMac and the MacBook Pro. On the former, Leopard simply refuses to recognize any media placed in the internal burner, but on the MacBook Pro insertion of a DVD/CD functions just like Tiger used to - mounts the untitled media on the desktop, allows drag and drop file adds, and allows burning by OSX finder or menu. Has to be some strange bug in Leopard code for a PowerMac G5.
