HT4914 If I have music on my ipad which is not on my computer will it get uploaded to the cloud when I turn on match, or simply be replace?

My hard drive recently crashed, and required replacement. Although I had made a back up copy, I have been unable to recover my itunes library. All I was able to get was my recently purchased music. I have most of my library on my ipad, and was hoping that if i signed up for iTunes Match I would be able to get my library from the ipad to sync with computer library. I am afraid though that if I turn on music match on the ipad now I will simply delete the 3000 songs which are on my ipad, but not in my itunes purchased music. Is there any other way to force the music files back into itunes off the ipad?

Have you failed to maintain a backu copy of your computer?
If so, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod> File>Devces>Transfer Purchases

Tap Settings > iTunes & App Store
Tap the Apple ID then tap Sign Out then sign in with your Apple ID.
Perhaps you have more than one user account on your laptop and iTunes content was synced using another Apple ID from that account.

In I06, I have no way of knowing which songs are on my iphone 4s vs being stored in the cloud. There used to be a small cloud next to songs that were not downloaded. This was important to make sure I had the music I wanted when in an airplane.

In the new i06 that I just loaded into my 4s, I have no way of knowing which songs are on my iphone vs stored in the cloud. There used to be a small cloud next to songs that were not on the phone. This is an important piece of information if you are a frequent traveller, as most of the flights I am on don't have onboard wifi, so it becomes a crap shoot as to what I will have available to listen to.
Is there a way I can view what songs are actually stored locally?

Go to Settings > Music and set "show all music" to OFF.

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

Use Windows Migration Assistant to copy all your user date to the MacBook.

Using Home Sharing will transdfer the media files, but not the entire library (ratings, date added, artwork, playlists, etc.)
And as diesel vdub metioned, backup BEFORE you do anything.

You can remove them manually on the device. Swipe across the track to bring up a delete button.

I cant update the ipod to new ios until i transfer bought items to library and if i do this i will lose my songs previously downloaded from cds onto my ipod the computer that had songs on it had to be restored to factory settings Can anyone help? Thanks a lot! After I sent the above post, I tried that. It worked a little. Some of the ones that I Purchased would not come up. I followed instructions from Apple about going to Purchased and downloading them again, but ran into another problem. They are greyed on my Mac and they will not download again. It says to click on the iCloud beside them, but there is not one visible. iCloud is set up, at least I thought it was. I am sure there is a simple explanation, but I am missing it!

I did this last night at 10pm thinking it would take 30 minutes to sync these 10,000 songs or so to my ipad to take up the 64 GB. I went to bed because it was taking so long and woke up at 6am and it was just about to finish. It finished around 630am. So it took a good 8 hours to sync.
I unhooked it and used it for an hour or so and then hooked it backup so that I could update a few apps on it. When i did that it acted like it was re-adding all of those songs again and it took about 8 hours again to sync all the music. Was that just a fluke because I made changes to the ipad? or will it always calculate and then re-sync alllllllllllllllllll of those 10,000 songs?

Sheesh. I know it's supposed to be simple & intuitive, but I can't quite figure some things out. Now, I may have reloaded iTunes since I had to rebuild my PC. Fortunately, my library of music - mainly from CDs - was saved on a backup.
1. I have some music that isn't quite listed in iTunes
Creedence Clearwater Revival album Chronicle Volume 1 also shows up as Chronicle, Vol.1 on the iPod
but it shows up only as Chronicle, Vol. 1 in my Music Library. How did it duplicate itself and how do I get rid of the duplicates?
note that these duplicates do not appear in iTunes, so clicking on Display Duplicates does not find them.
2. I cannot remove the rogue versions of songs either directly from the iPod or from iTunes
3. I cannot adjust the columns or sort order when viewing my iPod's Music in iTunes
4. Sync is not checked for any of the categories in iTunes
if I check the Sync box for music, it states it will wipe out my music and replace it with my library. My whole library won't fit on my 8 GB iPod. How do I pick and choose what goes to the iPod. Do I really need to wipe out the contents of my iPod first?
5. Last question - Can I assign the album art that was ripped from my CDs to the albums/songs imported from My Music in Windows to iTunes?
So I'm a bit frustrated but very open to solutions. My iPod touch is maxed out and I want to adjust what content - pictures, apps, music & playlists only - gets loaded on the iPod.

- From your description you did something to iTunes on the computer such that the iPod sees ythe iTunes library as a new library. That is why you are getting the message about erasing when you try to sync. Yu can, as you are doing, managing music with the computer since you can do that among different conputer. See:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
- If all music, apps, sysnced photos are on the computer you need to:
--- Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecing Backup and then restore the iPod from that backup.
- You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- You can transfer non-iTunes purchaed music by using one of the third-party programs discussed here. Some of those may also do synced photos.

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer ipod songs. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

If you asking can you have the music on both at the same time - yes you can. You can buy on the iPad and then sync to iTunes to transfer music into your iTunes library.
If you are in the U.S. - If you want to download the music to both devices at the same time, On your iPad - Go to Settings>Store>Automatic Downloads and turn music on - apps and books if you want those to download to all of your devices. Launch iTunes on your computer and go to iTunes>Preferences>Store and turn on automatic downloads for music, apps and/or books in there as well.
