HT4914 if I sign up with itunes match can i delete the music previously stored on my computer?

I am thinking about doing the itunes match, but when i do should i delete the music previously stored on my mac?

Here is the official answer, from the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions:
"iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk."

  • I recently signed up with iTunes match. After downloading the program I lost over 2500 songs! What happened to them?

Can someone please help me? I want all my songs back.

There is nothing to download for iTunes Match. It is a service that is built into iTunes that you subscribe to, then enable. So... you enabled the service and let the initial scan, match and upload process complete. Is that correct?
How are you determining that songs are missing? And where are they missing from? Your iTunes library? Please be specific.
As to backups, you say you "can't find them." How are you backing up your personal data?
If it is determined that the song files are actually gone from the computer HDD/SSD and you do not have backups then, yes, you'll need to rip (not "download") the CDs again.

  • HT4913 If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will my music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud?

I have a large music library on my iPad, that is not currently on iCloud or on my main PC. If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will the music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud? Or will I loose all that music?

    Yes, you can!(:
    STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
Hope this helped! Enjoy your music!(:

  • I have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.

How do I get to play all of my music that should be stored either on the computer or in the cloud?

    Hi,
Initially your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Once match completes its scan, your music will have been matched or uploaded. I suggest that you add iCloud status column to song view. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, inelligible, duplicate or waiting. What is the status of your tracks that are not playing.
If space is not an issue, I suggest that you keep the music on the internal hard drive otherwise you can delete the tracks and play from cloud. In both instances, you should maintain a back up of all your music on a separate hard drive.

my iTunes Match can not pass the step 2, it keeps repeat again and again. Pls advise. Thank you.

Very strange.  Two items to try:
    a.  Enable iCloud Status and iCloud Download fields in Song view, sort on status and look for any 'waiting' or 'error';
    b.  If (a) looks good, establish a new user account, create an empty library and enable iTunes Match, confirm that this provides access to all Songs and is working well.
These are seeking to ensure both no bad Songs or local Library corruption - both are relatively quick.

  • If I download iTunes Match can I delete stored sings on my iPad and iPhone ?

If I purchase iTunes Match  can I delete songs to make room on iPad and iPhone ?

    Yes.
Keep in mind that streamed music is actually downloaded to iOS devices to a temporary cache. You will probably want to clear this out periodically.

Did you transfer the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder?
Or did you only transfer /Muisic/iTunes/iTunes media? folder?

  • After re-signing in to iTunes Match hundreds of on-the-go playlists appeared.

For some reason when I turned on my Windows Vista machine last week iTunes asked me to sign-out of the iTunes store and re-sign in.  Once I did this iTunes Match was not enabled so I re-authorized the computer and iTunes Match began analyzing my library as it usually does.  I left it then came back to hundreds empty on-the-go playlists in my playlists window.  Is this a bug or did one of my iDevices mistakenly make all these playlists (I have a iPad 2 and iPhone 4 that all sync with Match) Is there any way to delete all these empty on-the-go playlists en masse?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    John

    Hey John-
I'm having the same problem with my iPad 2/Mac Mini setup.  The only way I know of to delete all of them en masse is by using something called Automator on the Mac.  The only way that I can think of on Windows would involve deleting the library files (not the media files), and rebuilding.  This would mean that you'd have to re-sync your iPad and iPhone, though.
You're definitely not alone with this issue, though.  Some bugs definitely need to be worked out with iTunes Match.

  • I would like to synch my iPhone with iTunes so that some of the music is SYNCHED to the device (i.e. certain playlists). Currently, it seems like the phone will only allow me to play music via MATCH/Cloud (wifi or cellular network)

We recently got a new iMac.
Synching has been a bit of a challenge. We also recently upgraded to include CLOUD / Match service.
Now, when I synch my iPHone to iTunes, the music section does not allow me to download certain songs / artists / albums / playlists DIRECTLY to my iPHone. I would prefer to have the music resident on the phone vs relying on wifi or my cellular coverage.

Right. That's you signed up for iTunes Match.

You can do either or both.
Download the songs to the iPhone when on wifi (to avoid using all your cell data)  adn they will be resident ont he phone.
Or simply stream them when you want and not download them.
You can create playlists in iTunes on your computer. These will get transferred to the iPhone via iTunes Match.
Then select these playlists on the iPhone to download them to the iPhone.

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

  • HT204406 I am out of space on my I phone becuse of iTunes.  If I sign up for iTunes Match should I delete all my iTunes music off my iPhone prior to signing up for iTunes Match?

I am out of space on my iPhone 4S because of my iTunes Library.  I want to sign up for iTunes Match, but should I delete all my music off my iPhone prior to subscribing to iTimes Match?

I got rid of a my stored music once I paid for iTunes Match. But beware you then need an Internet connection to pay music and even then a poor signal plays havoc. I sometimes wait five minutes for music to start and more often than not it stops playing and won't start again.
