What is the capacity of icloud compaired to icloud match??
iTunes Match is for up to 25000 songs, iCloud storage is separate and they provide different functions. If you subscribe to iTunes Match then you don't use any of your iCloud allowance for storing your music (iCloud is for backing your photos, documents, files etc.). Also iTunes purchases aren't included in your iCloud allowance, what you can re-download from the store depends upon what country that you are in

Once your music is in iCloud, you can play it from any of your devices. Just browse the complete list of all your music stored in the cloud and tap to play to it. You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store), but only what you play or download is stored on your device. Tap the iCloud download button to download music from an artist, album, or playlist. So you have immediate access to a huge music library without having to worry about the storage space on your device.

So basically I can get iTunes Match and it will hold the songs so that it doesn't use space on my PC? Or is it just a better way to have access to all my itunes media on all my devices?

Bryan,
It is really the latter. For several reasons, Match is not a reliable way to back up your files. You will still need them on physical media. See this User Tip:

I have an iPad 3 & iPhone 4S. I have iTunes Match w/ about 1500 songs. I am still having storage issues where my iPad states that I am using 6.5GB of my 16GB storage for music. I thought w/ Match it stored everything on the cloud not on the device? I've been trying to update apps but its saying I don't have enough storage and that's how I saw how much my music is taking up. iTunes match does keep all your content in the cloud, but you need to download it to a device to play it. If after playing something you don't want it on your device anymore, delete it by swiping. -
ITunes match storage full error on I devices
If I have iTunes match enabled on i devices it comes up with the message saying say storage is full. I haven't downloaded any songs at all I just stream it. I have never had this issue before until it was time to renew iTunes Match
When you 'stream' music from the cloud it will cache the song on your device (i.e take up storage space). To clear this cache go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Music then swipe right to left on 'All Music' and select delete. The space will be cleared.
I would have thought though that the system would clear the cache if more space to 'stream' a song is needed. -

Hello I made a mix with several songs. Will this mix be able to be uploaded in with iTunes Match?
Is your mix in the form of a single continuous MP3? If so, add it to your library, and you will be good to go. Obviously it will not match anything in the store, so it will be uploaded by iTunes Match, subject to the normal limitations on uploads (can't be more than 200 MB, etc.)
As with anything in iTunes Match, make sure that you make a backup on local storage. Apple Legal clearly advises that Match is not to be considered a reliable backup: "You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk. To the extent permitted by law, Apple shall have no liability with respect to your use of iTunes Match, including the inability to access matched or uploaded content." -
HT4914 iTunes Match "downloads"
iTunes match says that it "downloads" songs to iOS devices instead of streaming them. Does this mean that iCloud will download the physical song files to your phone and take up storage data?
This topic has been covered many times, hence worth a little searching through the content on this forum.
The good news is that you can make it work by using more than one library - rather than simply repeat content, do post back if you do not quickly find the specific steps for your application. -

As long as you are using the same Apple ID, it should not have an issue with reassociating it with your iTunes library. If you are charged again, then report the issue to the iTunes Store.

I have a MacBook , ipad & iPhone , I'm thinking about iTunes Match & storing all music in the cloud but as my MacBook is the main computer for the house does it need to always be on for the music to work ?
You pay separately for Match. It will hold up to 25,000 tracks plus your iTunes purchases.

I have a 16 GB iPhone 4, and I recently purchased iTunes Match, hoping to clear up some space on my phone to download iOS 7, since my music would now be stored in the Cloud. Now, when I plug in my iPhone to sync, it says that I have 8.9 GB of music on my phone, yet somehow have 10 GB free. The Cloud icons are not next to songs in my library when I pull it up on my phone.
How is this possible? Can I delete the music off of my phone at this point?Same problem on my iphone 4! ipad 2 and iphone 3gs normal instead

If you each want to use iTunes Match, yes. Match is on per-account basis.

Do you have iTunes 10.5.1+ on it ? That is the only requirement that is listed for it to work on a Mac.

HT4914 iTunes Matching Songs WITHOUT Local Files
So my music collection is nearly 12,000 songs. I built it for nearly 10 years, and cherish it. Sadly, however, the external hard drive I stored all my music on is dead, and the backup files are corrupted. (This is what happens when you go back to Windows ) So now I'm left with options of expense: A) I can hire a data recovery service (my first quote was $1,200- completely out of my price range), B) Start allllllll over again, or (hopefully) C) sign up for iTunes Match and match all of the music that could at least be found in the iTunes catalogue.
Here's my question: If I sign up for iTunes Match, and drop the (totally reasonable) $25, will iTunes scan my Library as it is, or does it require that I have the local files? If it needs the local files, then the $25 will be for little more than the option of giving me cloud access to the few files I have left. However, if it scans my library (which I'm generally very anal about organizing) and gives me even HALF of my music back, then it's worth its weight in gold.

Please help!Well, the computer was on all day while I was at work, but I don't think anyone would have come in the house and deleted my music files from iTunes. Anyway, I think the best approach would be to add the entire media folder back into iTunes. I tried it with one song and it initially showed a duplicate, but then iTunes match did an update and removed the duplicate song. I'll do that this evening just before I'm done using the Mac and let the process happen overnight.
