iTunes Match says you can store up to 250,000 songs. But are you limited by the 5GB of free iCloud space, or is extra storage space included with your iTunes Match subscription?

The songs you uploaded to iTunes Match don't take iCloud storage. iCloud storage is designed to store files on iCloud, and it's not affected by other services like iTunes Match. You can store up to 250,000 songs without worrying about the iCloud storage

iTunes Match is for up to 25000 songs, iCloud storage is separate and they provide different functions. If you subscribe to iTunes Match then you don't use any of your iCloud allowance for storing your music (iCloud is for backing your photos, documents, files etc.). Also iTunes purchases aren't included in your iCloud allowance, what you can re-download from the store depends upon what country that you are in

I have about 223000 songs in my collection., the majority of which I did NOT purchase on iTunes. The way I read the terms is that I am limited to 25k of those songs tenor purchased on iTunes or 25k songs that iTunes Match can't find?

So basically I can get iTunes Match and it will hold the songs so that it doesn't use space on my PC? Or is it just a better way to have access to all my itunes media on all my devices?

It is really the latter. For several reasons, Match is not a reliable way to back up your files. You will still need them on physical media. See this User Tip:

TS4124 iTunes Match storage?

I have an iPad 3 & iPhone 4S. I have iTunes Match w/ about 1500 songs. I am still having storage issues where my iPad states that I am using 6.5GB of my 16GB storage for music. I thought w/ Match it stored everything on the cloud not on the device? I've been trying to update apps but its saying I don't have enough storage and that's how I saw how much my music is taking up. Any way I can fix this?

iTunes match does keep all your content in the cloud, but you need to download it to a device to play it. If after playing something you don't want it on your device anymore, delete it by swiping.

ITunes Match Storage Space Usage

I am considering purchasing iTunes Match. How much space does iTunes Match use on an iOS device? Can one control this size? Does it store all the songs you have listened to or have some other caching algorithm?

Songs are stored only if you donwload them.
If you stream them they are put into a cache which will delete when that space is needed.

ITunes match storage full error on I devices

If I have iTunes match enabled on i devices it comes up with the message saying say storage is full. I haven't downloaded any songs at all I just stream it. I have never had this issue before until it was time to renew iTunes Match

When you 'stream' music from the cloud it will cache the song on your device (i.e take up storage space). To clear this cache go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Music then swipe right to left on 'All Music' and select delete. The space will be cleared.
I would have thought though that the system would clear the cache if more space to 'stream' a song is needed.

ITunes Match - iPhone Size??

Wondered if you guys could give me some advice...
iTunes Match is all set up on my Macbook as I am trying to make my music library available when Im around the house... For Example - I have 200g of music on my computer, I would like this available on my iPhone when its plugged into my bose system downstairs...
Thought iTunes Match was the way forward but I think my iPhone is downloaded the songs available and taking up iPhone storage space? is this correct??? If so then iTunes Match isnt the solution and back to the drawing board i go having wasted £21 :-)
HELP..

Match will work for you, when you select play it will access whatevere is selected and download it, as the iPhone fills up it will delete songs to make space based on last played date. Thus all 200GB are "available" but only a subset is actually on the phone at any one time.
Home sharing works as well but with iTM you can also be in Starbucks (or insert favourite cafe with free WiFi here) and get the same effect :-)

HT4914 iTunes Match Question

Hello I made a mix with several songs. Will this mix be able to be uploaded in with iTunes Match?

Is your mix in the form of a single continuous MP3? If so, add it to your library, and you will be good to go. Obviously it will not match anything in the store, so it will be uploaded by iTunes Match, subject to the normal limitations on uploads (can't be more than 200 MB, etc.)
As with anything in iTunes Match, make sure that you make a backup on local storage. Apple Legal clearly advises that Match is not to be considered a reliable backup: "You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. You expressly acknowledge and agree that all use of iTunes Match is at your sole risk. To the extent permitted by law, Apple shall have no liability with respect to your use of iTunes Match, including the inability to access matched or uploaded content."

HT4914 iTunes Match "downloads"

iTunes match says that it "downloads" songs to iOS devices instead of streaming them. Does this mean that iCloud will download the physical song files to your phone and take up storage data?

This topic has been covered many times, hence worth a little searching through the content on this forum.
The good news is that you can make it work by using more than one library - rather than simply repeat content, do post back if you do not quickly find the specific steps for your application.

As long as you are using the same Apple ID, it should not have an issue with reassociating it with your iTunes library. If you are charged again, then report the issue to the iTunes Store.

I have a MacBook , ipad & iPhone , I'm thinking about iTunes Match & storing all music in the cloud but as my MacBook is the main computer for the house does it need to always be on for the music to work ?

You pay separately for Match. It will hold up to 25,000 tracks plus your iTunes purchases.

ITunes Match/Storage Issues

I have a 16 GB iPhone 4, and I recently purchased iTunes Match, hoping to clear up some space on my phone to download iOS 7, since my music would now be stored in the Cloud. Now, when I plug in my iPhone to sync, it says that I have 8.9 GB of music on my phone, yet somehow have 10 GB free. The Cloud icons are not next to songs in my library when I pull it up on my phone.
How is this possible? Can I delete the music off of my phone at this point?

If you each want to use iTunes Match, yes. Match is on per-account basis.
