HT4914 missing tracks (broken file limatching iTunes?

I have some missing tracks (broken file links) in itunes, will these sync with iTunes match?

Reply to self: I ultimately did speak to a sympathetic iTunes support staff.  But, I figured it out just by talking iot through with him.  For reasons that remain unknown, large swaths of my library were "hidden" by Windows.  Unhiding and clicking to apply to sub-folders does not function as intended.  The Microsoft support personal left it with clicking on every single file and unhiding.  But I did ultimately unhide everything by using the HIDDEN parameter in Windows Search, which makes available all files for group clicking "Off" the hidden feature.  Unfortunately. major library damage already incurred before all this was figured out.  Albums missing tracks, etc.  With a folder by folder comparison to several backups, I managed to re-create the basic file structures.  I also cleaned the hard disk by shifting old Music backups off the drive so that now there is 769 GB used, 1.16 TB free of a 1.81 TB available hard drive.  Rebuilt the library using the latest download available 9/25/2012.  Have gone through the shifting of the directory structure out of iTunes/iTunes Media to just iTunes.  A shift which I approve of but a warning would have been nice.  Have gone through the varisous corrections to Compilations, Music Videos, Audiobooks which are clearly tagged incorrectly as iTunes cannot rebuild to previous specs.  And now I am stuck with  ERROR, ITUNES LIBRARY CANNOT BE SAVED, -50.  Continuing to iognore the message results in a "Not Responding" iTunes, with a required force shutdown.  I have used the File, Library, Organize feature several times today.  Weeks of effort and I am right back where I started.  Steve would be turning over in his grave, where's Apple's perfection?  Customers are begging for alternatives and I've just joined their ranks.  I want and love my media library but my life is not structured to this type of time committment.

  • MISSING TRACKS WHEN SHARING TO ITUNES...

I just spent a long time creating a song on gband, then i "shared" (send the song to itunes)..when it showed up finished in itunes most of the tracks were not there.....and now most of the audio tracks in the garage band original piece are not there, although visibly they are. Strange. Any suggestions to get the audio tracks back...? thanks..

Your audio tracks are still on your hard drive i hope if not you can not recover your data unless you buy a data recovery program. Are your tracks real-time or software tracks? software tracks can be performed again that's the only solution.. In addition the audio waveforms "can" show up as "automation reflections" as i call it, or as alias files.

  • HT4914 drag and drop file into itunes library

I am no longer able to drag and drop a song file on my Mac desktop into iTunes library..anyone know why?

JollyGeri, after I installed the 10.5.3 version a few days ago I began to have the same problem.  The first time i used iTunes after the new install is when the problem of not being able toI manipulate my music by dragging and dropping began.  My computer is a Mac and it appears you are using Windows Vista so the solution to my problem will likely be different than yours.   I'll just mention that on a mac there is a program called disk utility and with that we mac users can have it repair permissions.  After a second attempt yesterday to repair permissions I was able to move music by dragging and dropping as I previously could.  However, when I opened itunes today and tried, the same problem was back.  I've used the disk utility program to repair permissions again but so far the problem persists.   I hope someone is able to help you with your situation.   If there is a similar type of program on your windows pc, perhaps by repairing the disk permissions you may be able to get your problem solved.  This is very frustrating and I believe there is something in the new version of iTunes that has caused this because I have not installed any other upgreades, etc. since downloading and installing the itunes upgrade.    Good luck!

  • Missing random video files

I've discovered for some reason that I'm missing a few files from iTunes -- they appear with the dreaded grey exclamation point.
What I'm missing mostly are a few iTunes Music Store-purchased episodes of television programs, a couple of episodes of audio podcasts and a couple of video podcast episodes. I know I haven't moved them, as I never fiddle around with the files themselves. Some of the missing files are actually still on my iPod, so I know I had them at one point and had them copy over.
All iTunes files reside on a Western Digital firewire drive that is a few months old. I just checked over the drive with DiskWarrior and it came up clean (no serious errors).
Any clues? This is disturbing now, but would get a lot more serious if I start losing more files.
Here's one other thing: I have three firewire devices chained together: two hard drives and a DVD burner. This is supposed to be OK, but is it possible this kind of setup could lead to errors? I'm super careful about not shutting down any of them while others are running.

Have you done a search of your HD with Spotlight to see if the missing files are still on the HD (HD's)?
What version of iTunes are you running? It appears that some folks are having issues with 6.0.5.
Daisy Chaining FW devices is fine. You do load up the FW port and draw a lot of power if the devices are all bus powered. In the past Apple TiPB's blew FW ports. I went through 4 logic boards. Thank you Apple Care. If you are going to have more than 1 FW device that is bus powered it maybe best to use a powered FW hub. Yes they say that you can connect them together but if you are off warranty then you are out of pocket if you blow the FW port. iBooks don't have a PCMCIA slot to use a FW card if the FW port blows.

  • Add file to library. Track names added to iTunes (10.5), but Album information missing

I moved my music folders on my PC, then deleted all the songs from iTunes. Before I did that my library was in perfect shape.  When I "File>Add Folder to Library" all the tracks came in, however, for any tracks whose titles begin with track numbers, iTunes doesn't add album information.  See tracks with pre-pended numbers in this screenshot. No album information!
The album folders in Windows are still intact, and Explorer listings of the folders show the album names as well.  So windows knows the names of the albums.  iTunes isn't finding them.  See below.
Why isn't iTunes reading the album names.  My library is now a mess!  Now I've got thousands of tracks without album information.  I can't do all of them manually.  Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!

My script picks up the information in the path the file is stored at, which generally yields Album Artist, Album, Track Number & Track Name. My own personal file name convention sets the filename to ## <Name> -  <Artist> when Artist != Album Artist and my script can read that data back again. In your case we really want to get down to the reason why iTunes isn't reading the tag that is there, and eveidently readable by Windows Explorer.
Here's a thought... Backup one of the files that includes something visibly different in the contributing artists field. Right click on the file in iTunes and select Convert ID3 Tags... > None. Now try playing the file in question. Does the extra data appear? If not give the same process at least one more go.
As I mentioned earlier the ID3 spec allows for multiple tags to be attached to a single file, e.g. both V2 and V1 for backwards compatability or even multiple tags of the same version but in different languages. What isn't obvious is what rules applications are supposed to use to give preference from one to the other. I'm struggling to find a tag editor that is aware of this issue though there are some that can display V1 & V2 tags and even copy data from one to the other. I don't offhand have a definite recommedation however.

  • Missing Tracks in iTunes Browser after Match activated

After iTunes Match successfully completed, not all tracks are found when using the iTunes Browser.
For example, selecting the Music icon on the left, ensuring that All Genres, All Arists and All Albums are selected within the Browser, I scroll down within the Artist window and select Artist "ABC" . Only three items appear, all of which are music videos.
However, when I enter "ABC" in the search bar, the 3 music videos appear along with all of the band's music tracks and digital booklets.
All "ABC" albums and videos were purchased thru iTunes earlier this year with the same Applie ID as I currently use within the store.  None are marked as Complications and used to be found in the browser prior to activating iTunes Match.
Any ideas why they doen't appear when using the browser?

Same issue here... Found them on another disk though... iTunes will just say the files are missing and wil not process them. They'll be marked with an exclamation mark in front of the track name when in the numbers view. I first had to re-link the files (thus iTunes copying them to my iTunes Music folder) and then had to run iTunes Match again.
Sorry, iguess no workaround here. I may dsuggest you find a copy somewhere and then re-download them from the cloud.

  • Missing tracks in iTunes album folder

This evening I downloaded a 28-track album from the iTunes store. All 28 tracks show up in iTunes and on my iPod. All 28 tracks play in iTunes and on my iPod.
I backed up the new album by copying the iTunes folder to my external hard drive.
But then.....when I checked the back-up, I was surprised to see that only 2 out of 28 tracks on the new album had been copied to my external drive. Twenty-six tracks appear to be missing.
So I went to the original iTunes folder, and found the 26 of the 28 tracks appear to be missing there as well.
I then did a hard drive search-by-name for some of the missing tracks, and nothing turned up. But they must be on the hard drive somewhere, right? Or I couldn't play them in iTunes.
    Baffled.

    Scratch this thread.
Rebooted the computer twice, and all missing files have magically reappeared in their folder.
    Go figure!

  • Can I batch download missing tracks from iTunes Match?

For some reason thousands of my tracks have gone missing in iTunes. No idea what can have happened, unless it was a consequence of messing with TuneSpan...! The exclamation mark icon appears next to the missing tracks. I can play them and download them if I go through a series of clicks so I could download tham all one at a time (indeed I started to do so) but to complete this job is going to take hours and risk giving me repetitive strain injury. Is there a way to get iTunes to download all the missing ytracks from Match?

Thanks. This will save me one click per item, but I still have to click each one individually a couple of times (ie to make it 'play' in order to get rid of the and then press Escape to dismiss the dialog box that comes up about searching for other missing files. (If I select multiple items and control-click for the contextual amenu, Download does not appear – only when I have gone through all of the above to turn into the iCloud download icon.)

  • Locating missing files in itunes library

    Hello everyone,
I have an iTunes library with 177 days worth of music, and every now and then I try to play a track and a "!" appears, and I realize that some how I accidentally removed something from my iTunes Music folder at some point in the past.. So I go into time machine and find those files and recover them.
However, when I did this last, it alerted me that it relinked 2 of 160 missing files-- But I have no idea what the other 160 files are.
I did some googling, and found someone that gave a tip to find all the missing files in a library:
    - create a playlist
    - drag your entire library to the playlist
    - create a smart playlist, and add everything that is not in the other playlist to it (this should give you a playlist of all missing files)
... I tried this approach, and dragging 177 days worth of music (over 11,000 tracks), I got the spinning color wheel.. Left the computer for a few hours thinking it just needed to process those... And I get "iTunes unexpectedly quit". I tried it a 2nd time, and got the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do in this case?
Is 177 days of music / 11,000 files just an amount that is too much for iTunes to handle, or is there something else wrong here?
    Thank you.

    maybe this helps:
    iTunes Track CPR v1.3
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."
additionally, this application may be useful:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

  • Purge "Missing Files" in iTunes...

I use iTunes and Serato Scratch Live (Don't worry, this is an iTunes question, promise ).
As a DJ I move music around alot and yes i know it's best to manage music in iTunes, having said that, how can i scan my iTunes library and determine which tracks are "missing"?  Sometimes i end up with duplicates and these i purge with Gemini but once iTunes imports them into the library, there seems to be no way to tell iTunes to check the consistancy of the library and remove the "missing" tracks.
Serato has this functionality but only for its library, it cannot write to iTunes library (as far as I know).
I don't think i'm alone and yes i'm disorganized (Thanks to A.D.D. in case you haven't figured that out yet ) but every now and then i get my stuff together and like to clean up my music so on that note ANY help is much appreciated.
    Merci....
    Nate

There's a trick I just tried with itunes 11, I don't remember the details for a previous (better) version of itunes.
To summerize the trick I detail bellow it's to use a video field to set for all your music tracks, then have itunes set it and check all tracks, itunes will set it only for tracks with a valid file and will update the track state to show whe it hasn't a file. Then you can use that field value to sort tracks of you library music and delete all tracks with a missing file.
    So for itunes 11.0.1:
    - Select your library in itunes to see all tracks.
    - Then choose the tracks presentation.
    - Then in Prensentation options add the serie (video section)
    - Sort the list by Season to check it's not a used field, it shouldn't as its music.
If the season field isn't used then you can use the trick :
    - Select all in the list
    - Get information
    - Go in Video Tab
    - In season number enter 1
    - Then check ok.
    - Then let itunes set the field for all tracks and it will check them all. It takes times if you have many tracks.
    - Once it's finished just sort the list by season, and all tracks with no season are those with missing file. Well perhaps also those with a protected file that can't be changed. Ididn't tested that last point but you could give a visual check to the elements to be sure that all are showing the icon for missing file.
So with that sort you can select all the tracks with missing file to delete them.
Then you can restore the season field to none to reset all valid tracks:
    - Select all tracks in your library
    - Righ click to get information
    - Select video tab and in season number field erase the 1 you set before.
    - Ok to apply.
Well it's neither fast nor without risks of human errors, a paid software well designed and well programed is a wiser choice, but that manual process is free of money (well if time isn't money).
The small adventage I can see is in that way you are sure that itunes will check all files of your library.
EDIT: Take care when you do the operation that all the removable disk you are using to store files in you itunes are well connected. That's this sort of little traps a human could forget check and it could generate a little disaster. :-)

  • Is there a way of "merging" songs in iTunes. Several times, I have downloaded from the Internet, or recorded from CDs, then found the tracks broken up to appear as separate "Albums". I have a 5-movement symphony, which appears as 5 separate songs?

  • How do I fix broken song files in iTunes with songs transferred from my iPod to my computer?

Recently got a new computer but when I tried to transfer the files in My Music>iTunes to my new computer I realized that only about half the songs in my library have folders in the iTunes folder, even purchased songs (no idea why). I could download mp3s of every broken song and re-do it that way, but I would rather figure out a way to restore the files from my iPod and save a lot of time.
I enabled disk use on my iPod and dragged the folders from iPod_control>Music to a folder on my desktop but the songs are all assigned random four letter names. I don't know if iTunes will be able to detect the right file to restore each song if I just direct it to this folder (using the prompt when you try to play the song), not to mention that the random songs are broken up into 49 separate folders so I would just have to randomly guess which folder to direct it to (I have 1993 songs). If I drag all the files into iTunes will it just create doubles of each song? I don't care about play counts, I don't know if that's stored in the song file, but it's not a big deal for me to replace all the songs in iTunes with the files from my iPod as long as all the files work.

Thank you so much! I now know how to convert AIFF audio files to ACC files, and I can keep the original AIFF file! One other concern though -- how do I tell which is the bigger AIFF file and which is the new smaller ACC file? iTunes doesn't have an obvious place/window that tells me the audio file size. Is there a way to tell the two apart. It looks like it creates an identical file name, not even a "copy" extension or anything -- so it's impossible to tell them apart. Is there another secret here?

  • ITunes wont recognise Audio CD Track format files (No answer in Archive)

I have a 60GB iPod. Have downloaded the latest iTunes and iPod drives. I usually copy all songs on a spare removable mass storage disk drive, and then add the entire folder made up of hundreds and hundreds of songs.
Now. All songs with MPEG format, and the ones that already have names somewhat, as long as it is not named with Track, do get recognized and get applied in iPod. But no songs named Track and a serial number, that is in Audio CD Track format do. They get instantly copied, as they are 1KB each, both in CD and where they are copied. But nothing more than that happens. It wont be played in Windows Media Player neither. I renamed it from Track to anything else, thinking perhaps in an attempt to keep files organised iTunes deliberatly doesnt recognizes them, but that didnt worked also. The songs can be played from the CD, but arent recognized when they are copied on a disk.
How do I put the songs named Track with Audio CD Track format on my iPod. Thanks in advance.

    VMT,
I'm not an expert but will try to help you. From this article I found audible files cannot be burned on MP3 format (at least that's what I think it's saying).

  • Missing mscrv80.dll file when updating itunes.  what is it and how can I get it back?

When updating itunes the new installation said I was missing mscrv80.dll file.  I've reinstalled but still doesn't work.  How can it be repaired?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
