Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

This is one instance where you'll curse yourself for not having bought the AppleCare Warranty extension and gotten the board for free.
Anyway, get your model number handy and go look up the parts in www.powerbookmedic.com or www.ifixit.com amongst other places. They've also have videos or photo pictorials on how to do the replacement. Not altogether trivial, be sure to spread the adequate amount of thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, else you'll fry the new board in short order again.

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Oh yes, I have done that all ready, even tried to do the safe mode. I was able to get it to work once, since January 22th, however it involved the changing security permissions and even though Adobe was working well, Windows quit working well. What MichelPM suggested is the SAFEST solution. Firefox is a better browser than Safari, and you will not be faced with any potentially crippling consequences of a full OS update.
You will presumably have to update your system at some point, and you should prepare for that by maintaining a full, up-to-date backup of your current main system on an external hard drive. You can use SuperDuper ($25) or Carbon Copy Cloner (the legacy version, 3.5.7) to clone your current system to an external drive. This drive will be bootable and will provide you will a safety net if you decide to install Yosemite at some point.

Hi, in my opinion it's best to use that laptop as is and upgrade next year. On top of that the cpu is running at 1.6Ghz which isn't very fast.
Nonetheless, there are a few 4GB sticks for laptops. Not all laptops dimm slots support 4GB in each but yours does and that's a good thing. Only downside to this ram stick is the price. Very expensive.

Five months is a great start at familiarizing yourself with the LabVIEW environment. Again depends what is wrong as you droped it that would proberbly void the warrenty. But do not dispare search the forums as it may be a problem that can be fixed by you and add a post to this forum explaining your problem in detail and some one will be able to help you.
There are some very clever poeple on here and you should only go for the service as alast resort.
