HT4914 What about duplicates that are in my iTunes library

I have loads of duplicates it would take forever to trawl through my library to delete manually

Hi Tyzerman,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can use the method in this article to identify duplicates in your iTunes library:

  • So where are my podcasts and other items that are in my itunes library

Once again Apple has decided to "upgrade" and change a perfectly serviceable "look" for why Who knows. But My podcasts are not visible nor are any of my other MP3 downloads. Where is the sidebar that allowed me to move around and navigate Itunes.
My playlists are now also missing

Go through each of the sources Music, Movies etc. and select Playlists. Use the ellipsis ... to enable sources.  Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button, the others do and remember your selection. Not exactly the same as the old sidebar, but not too different.
If you are really missing content see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

  • HT2729 itouch 5 will not sync movies purchased from itunes that are in my itunes library.

My new itouch5 will not sync movies purchased from itunes thatsare saved in my itunes library.

    Mike, Hi
Thanks for yoursuggestions. I did see that article, tried correcting the permissions, looked at a few of the other things, but this doesn't make sense. This would only be the second computer that had these purchased songs on them. SO the 5 computer limit should have nothing to do with it.
The weird thing is how the computer tells me that it's not authorized to play the purchased songs and gives me the opportunity to put in either an AOL code or an Apple ID code to authorize this computer to play the song. I do it. I get a message that, congratulations, the computer has been successfully authorized to play the song. But then it simply does not play and when you try to play it it just recycles right back to the original message saying that the computer is not authorized.

  • My iPod won't sync any songs or videos that are in the iTunes Library.

I have an iPod classic [80 GB] and it does not, recently since I updated the iTunes to the newest version, for whatever reason iTunes will not be able to sync music or any of the music videos I have giving me a error message [Like rite now it told me: Attempting to copy the disk "RADKE777" -which is the name of my device- Failed. An error has occured (-69)] then iTunes will freeze completely and I cannot do anything with it.
What does that mean? It was just working recently.. the only thing that I have done differently, like I said, was update iTunes.. I'm not really sure as to what to do. If ANYONE can help me I'd appreciate it! >.<

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

  • I am trying to transfer apps that are in my iTunes library to various devices through iTunes.  Music I can just drag and drop from library to device, but it will not let me do this for apps.  I'm updated to all the most recent version on devices/itunes.

The weird things is that under my device Apps is not listed.  This is true for both my ipad and my iphone.  I do not Sync either of my devices with itunes, but do back them up.  Thanks.

I'm guessing this is a problem unique to me as there have been no replies at all...  Thanks a bunch folks

  • What about photos that *don't* belong to an event?

i love the new "events," but what about photos that are not part of an event?
for example, one day in 2001, i imported a bunch of photos from around the net to use as desktop pictures. but those photos don't exactly comprise an "event." that same day, my sister sent me one photo of her newborn baby. now, iphoto's calling all of that day's photos an event. although i love the concept of events, it bugs me to call certain groupings "events," when that's not what they are.
i can't seem to find a way to delete an event. is it mandatory that each photo belong to an event? if events have truly replaced "rolls," i imagine every photo must therefore belong to one.
i already have albums entitled "family" and "desktop pictures," so those photos are already organized elsewhere. but how are you guys handling random photos that don't exactly qualify to be called "events"? as i type, it occurs to me to create an event called "non-events." but i'd still love to hear how others are dealing with this.

An Event looks to be just another name for a Roll. And in all previous versions of iPhoto all photos had to belong to a Roll, whether you liked it or not, either named by your convention or by iPhoto's default.
I guess with the metaphor of film rolls fading quickly as digital cameras advance, a new moniker for the base catalog entry was necessary. Suits me fine as long as the equivalent functionality is preserved with new features a bonus worth the price of "upgrading".
I have not tried the switch to the new iLife iPhoto version yet (iMovie 8 is a HUGE step backwards so my caution meter is on FULL alert), as I have the same reservations. I have scrupulously kept Rolls organized by import date and require all that existing metadata be transferred perfectly.

  • HT1329 what about music that I have taken from a bought CD and put onto my ipod? I have already transfered music purchased through the itunes store, but how do I transfer all the stuff I took from my CDs?

How can I transfer my ipod content from old pc (which cannot be connected to the internet anymore) to my new laptop (which is connected to the internet), Bearing in mind that:
1, I already have itunes on the laptop and have successfully added to my laptop itunes library the few songs PURCHASED from itunes.
2, My ipod (classic) and the itunes library on the pc also has a number of tunes that I have taken from my cd collection.
3, when I connect my ipod to the laptop, it wants to sync to the laptop by keeping the PURCHASED items, and deleting the stuff I have put on from my CD collection.
4, I cannot activate home sharing on the PC because it's not longer connected to the internet and cannot be re-connected to the internet.
    What do I do?

Type "move iTunes Library" into the search bar and follow the instructions found there.
There are multiple ways to move the iTunes library.  Hint:  None of them involve using an iOS device.

  • TS3212 I just installed iTunes (from the apple site) on to my new laptop.  When I click on the icon to open I get a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  Now what do I do and ho

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop.  When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  I have no idea what this means or what to do about it.  I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up.  I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes.  What should I do to fix this?

What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future.

How do I see my pictures that are in my aperture library in finder?  I would like I be able to select  photos in finder when I am making photo books online without having to export them first from aperture jinto a new folder. The digitization of data has introduced a complexity to our interactions with it that we continue to struggle with.  "Picture" and "Photo" now mean different things in different contexts.  In this case (and in general) defining our terms clearly is the first step towards understanding what we are trying to do.  Understanding is the path that allows us to do it.
All pedantic, but please stick with me here  .
You record a set of instantaneous data with a camera.
That data is processed by your camera and saved to a file.
The file format is usually either RAW or JPG.
You transfer those files to your computer, and you import them into the program Aperture (often in one operation).
From each camera-file imported, Aperture creates a record in its database (called, imho unhelpfully, a Library) and an Image that you see in the Aperture Browser and Viewer.
Aperture links the Image and the imported file.
The imported file is called, within Aperture, an Original.
    Every Image has an Original.
The Image is not the Original.  The Image is what you see in Aperture.
The Original is a file that is stored on your computer.
You can make changes to an Image.
    Aperture calls these changes Adjustments.
Adjustments are saved to another file attached to the record in the database.  Let's call this file the Changes File.
Aperture uses these two files attached to the record in the database to create the Image.
Image = Original + Changes File.
The Image is not a file.
Because the Image is not a file, it cannot be shared with other programs.  It exists only inside of Aperture.
In order to share an Image with another program, you must first create a file of the Image.
You do this by exporting Images ("File ▹ Export ▹ Version" is the command in Aperture; should be, imho, "File ▹ Export ▹ Image").
You may ask, "Why all the complexity?  Why doesn't Aperture save Images as files?"  The answer is simple:  Images can require less — and in many cases very very much less — storage space than files of Images.  Rather than save a full-size file for every Image, Aperture saves only instructions on how to make that full-size file.  The gain in storage efficiency is huge.  The trade-off is that although your Images are always available to be made into share-able files, you must create those files when needed (which you do by exporting selected Images).
Here is your question reworded with more precise terms:
    SamanthaR22 might have written:
How do I access Images in my Aperture Library in the Finder?  I would like I be able to select files in the Finder when I am making photo books online without having to create them by exporting Images from Aperture into a new Finder folder. No, there is not.  Images exist only in Aperture, and are not accessible for use in other programs.  You must create, for each Image in your Aperture Library, a new file outside of your Aperture Library in order to use it with another program.
Aperture does allow you to create and save within your Library share-able files of your Images.  These files are called Previews.  You specify the file parameters in Aperture Preferences on the Previews tab.  These files are available to other programs via the OS X Media Browser.  These files are what you get when you drag selected Images out of the Aperture program and drop them on another program or on your desktop (which is part of the Finder).

  • Is icloud supposed to push music from cds that I downloaded to my pc? The cds are in my itunes library but are not being pushed to my ipad

    Any help is appreciated.

When I delete songs from iTunes, iTunes often asks me whether to keep or trash the file, but often it does not.
First, I do not really know why it does not always ask me what to do with the file itself. Any idea?
iTunes will ask you if you want to keep or trash files when
    (a) you have +keep iTunes media folder organized+ enabled in preferences > advanced
    (b) the files are in your iTunes music (or media) folder in <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes
Second, since iTunes does not always ask what to do with the file, my iTunes library is currently filled with ghost files of songs that I have deleted from iTunes. Any idea how I could locate and delete these files?
    try this:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v1.1*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

  • On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up?

On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up? The tracks are from voice recordings that were downloaded from an extrernal drive and weren't necessarily tagged as spoken audio. Do I need to go back into itunes and relabel these tracks so they will show up on my ipad2?
Thanks in advance for your help!

With the iPad connected to the computer, while iTunes is running, click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Movies tab and look for Movie Rentals. You want to "Move" the films to the iPad.

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

  • When my ipod is plugged into my computer music disappears, sometime it tries to upload songs, clears my playlists, and can't locate the songs files. All the same songs are in my Itunes library on my computer. What can i do?

When I plug my Ipod into my computer it shows all my songs on it as reloading onto the device,
and sometimes it can't locate the files or they are just gone. All my songs are in my Itunes library
on my computer, and I do have it in my settings not sync the Ipod with my computer so I can

I have cleared my Ipod off as well as my computer, and put all the music back on without seeing
any improvement. And as of today when I tried again it shows some songs on there but with 3 copies
