HT4915 iTunes Match sync and deleted itunes files

Will iTunes match remove songs deleted from iTunes when it syncs?
I cleared all iTunes music on my computer to start over clean but didn't remove them from the cloud.

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • ITunes Match: Can't delete remaining files from the iPhone

Connected to iTunes Match today: All my songs are in the cloud, the color scale overview shows 0,12 GB (?) for audio files. Still there are almost 500 songs (1,7 GB) in the Device(iPhone)/Music submenu. Some of these are active, some are deactivated, but I can't delete both. On my iPhone, I deleted all remaining songs by "swipe and delete", all songs there show the cloud symbol.
How can I delete the remaining files?
    Thank you, Martin

  • IPod wants to sync and delete, iTunes on external hard drive

hope someone can help with this
I had my iTunes on my old laptop which died about a month ago but I was able to save the hard drive which I'm using now as an external hard drive to my new laptop. my old iTunes did not have all the songs that I have on my iPod as I ran out of space so I kept only couple hundred songs.
I have installed iTunes new on my current laptop but when I want to upload songs from the new laptop onto my iPod it states that I have to sync it with the new library which only holds 50 songs and would delete all my music on the iPod.
as I wanted to open the iTunes on my old laptop/now external hard drive it says "ITunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes?"
so basically my question now is - is it possible to upload new songs onto my iPod without losing the old ones?
    any help would be appreciated

*so basically my question now is - is it possible to upload new songs onto my iPod without losing the old ones?*
If you want to maintain the content of the iPod and add new content from iTunes without syncing the two, you can manage the iPod manually and simply drag the new songs onto it from your library: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Once you are safely connected you can change the iPod to manual as per the link above.

  • Everytime I open iTunes, my iTunes Match sync is down

    Hi everybody.
Everytime I open iTunes, my iTunes Match sync is down.
    iTunes show me this icon
and I need to deactivate and re-activate iTunes Match from the Store menù.
    I have a PC with Win 7 Pro x64.
I have the last build of iTunes.
I tried to uninstall it, delete the iTunes folder in AppData folder, WHITOUT delete my playlist and then reinstall it.
    Did someone can help me?

I have the same issue but do not have McAfee installed.  I am running Win7 64-bit.  Problem solved by following these steps:
Open Computer from the Start menu.
From the Organize menu, choose Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
Under "Hidden files and folders," make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and on the shortcut menu, choose Delete.
    Restart the computer.

  • ITunes Match Sync Erases ID3 Tags

I have had no problems with the iTunes Match syncing between the iTunes that was on my PC (version, I don't know, but it was older than 11.4) and my iPhone and iPad.
But today I upgraded iTunes to the latest and greatest version (11.4), and now everything is MESSED UP. When I connect this new iTunes to my iTunes Match account, now all of a sudden all of the playlists on both my iPhone and iPad got messed up and came out of the Playlist Folders they were in and are now top-tier playlists. When I try to move them back into their appropriate folders in iTunes and re-sync, the re-sync effectively erases from iTunes the changes I just made. For example, it puts the playlist right back to where I moved it FROM. If I try to create new playlists, the sync erases them from iTunes. Even if I try to update an individual song's ID3 tag (like, for example, if I add some text to the "Grouping" field of a single song) and re-sync, the updated text disappears and reverts back to what it was before I synced. I don't even have my iPhone or iPad connected by cable to the computer, so it's not like iTunes is getting confused between whether to sync via cord or via iTunes Match.
I don't know what to do. Is my iTunes update corrupted? It seems to be functioning fine otherwise. No alerts. No bad DLLs. Nothing weird other than the iTunes Match syncing problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Sean

You should check with the head unit manufacturer; they can most likely answer your question.

  • ITunes Match has stopped uploading - every file errors and says waiting - I have tried to delete the files and use other formats etc.  I have had the service since Day 1 and NEVER had an issue.  It didn't start until the Delete from Cloud switch to Hide

iTunes Match has stopped uploading - every file errors and says waiting - I have tried to delete the files and use other formats etc.  I have had the service since Day 1 and NEVER had an issue.  It didn't start until the Delete from Cloud switch to Hide from cloud - the files that do not upload show grayed out on my other devices.

Have you confirmed that you successfull purged iTunes Match by also looking on an iOS device?  If so, keep in mind that Apple's servers may be experiencing a heavy load right now.  They just added about 19 countries to the service and I've read a few accounts this morning that suggests all's not running perfectly right now.

  • HT4915 Why do I have to pay for iTunes Match subscription to delete songs I've previously purchased from iCloud?

From the support article, it seems that I have to pay for an iTunes Match subscription in order to permanently delete songs from iCloud.  Is there a way to delete songs from iCloud without having iTunes Match?

You don't have to sign up to iTunes Match to play your iTunes music purchases through the iPad's Music app (if you've synced or downloaded them to the app).  iTunes Match allows you to store your own music collection (e.g. copied from CDs, bought from other sites) in the cloud as well as the music that you've purchased from iTunes
    From http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ :
With iTunes in the Cloud, the music you buy from the iTunes Store automatically appears on all your devices.1 And for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution. iTunes Match is built right into iTunes on your computer and the Music app on your iOS devices.2 It lets you store your entire collection in iCloud, even music you’ve imported from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. When it’s in iCloud, it’s available on all your devices. So you can enjoy all your music anywhere, anytime — on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV.

  • If I download iTunes Match can I delete stored sings on my iPad and iPhone ?

If I purchase iTunes Match  can I delete songs to make room on iPad and iPhone ?

    Yes.
Keep in mind that streamed music is actually downloaded to iOS devices to a temporary cache. You will probably want to clear this out periodically.

  • Got iTunes match, synced up music from laptop to phone, headed out listening to playlist, all of a sudden, mid-song, music stopped and all music was gone and needed to be re-downloaded

Ok, so I initially bought the cloud mainly in the hopes that I could store all of my music on it and have access to it on my phone, which ended up not being the case. Fine. So I man up and get iTunes match, sync everything up between my laptop and my phone, make a playlist and head out listening to it. All of a sudden while I'm out, mid-song, the music stops. I go to see what's going on and everything is gone and has the icon to download next to it, and now I'm away from my wifi to boot, so charges apply. I don't understand. Now I have iCloud on my phone with 25 GB Total Storage and 25 GB Available because I don't understand what I should be using it for and iTunes match which, what, only works when I'm within spitting distance of my laptop? I've tried to get everything sorted out, paying a fee each time, and hitting roadblocks every step of the way; and on top of it, my phone is constantly telling me it can't do this or that because I don't have enough storage?? I realize I'm a bit of a noob, but c'mon, it shouldn't be this complicated or difficult, should it?

If you have no network access (3G, Wi Fi) you cannot stream music from the cloud. Period. The way you stop the behavior is to enable 3G, or pre-download the tracks you think you will want to listen to.

  • ITunes Match for the iMac - Music Files on an iPod?

I subscribe to iTunes Match and have an iPod Classic 160GB. Is it possible to use iTunes Match for my entire music library on my iMac & iPhone BUT put the actual song files on my iPod Classic? The problem is my music library is large, won't fit on my iMac Flash hard drive and iTunes Match is perfect. But I can't figure out how to get those songs onto my iPod Classic because iTunes Match is enabled on iTunes.
I would like to keep my iTunes library on the iMac using Match and have the physical songs be on the iPod Classic.
I tested this by putting 1 album on the iMac hd. Then syncing the iPod. Then deleting it from iTunes (the cloud icon came back so Match is doing it's thing and I deleted the physical song files). Sync'd again but this time I checked Manually Manage Music & Videos in the iTunes iPod Settings window before hand, thinking that would tell iTunes to not worry that the 1 Who album wasn't physically on my h/d anymore. But it didn't work. It removed the that album from the iPod Classic.
Is this possible and I don't have the correct settings in iTunes or on the iPod? Or is this a limitation of using iTunes Match?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

  • Why is iTunes Match creating hundreds of temp files in my iTunes folder?

I'm syncing a large (24000 songs) library, and I noticed my free space has gone from 180GB to 70.  I found about 1400 temp files that have been created in the iTunes application folder, each one about 50mb.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Can I delete the files, or get iTunes to clean them up?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Same problem here.
I just created another question in the iTunes for Mac section of the discussion forum, because it it probably not directly caused by iTunes Match, but a generic iTunes problem.
Good to see, I'm not the only one though...
