I have already done what I can to move from mobil me to icloud with my email. I do not plan on upgrading my computer at this time. How will this effect me?
Providing you have migrated to iCloud, you can continue to use the iCloud mail for now and at any time in the future when you get Lion or better on your computer, you can begin to use all the other features.

It sounds like you have an older iMac than the 2006 and newer model this forum covers. The problem is that, in 2006, Apple changed from PowerPC to Intel processors and third-party developers soon stopped making new software for the older processors. That's why you cannot upgrade Flash player--the current version requires a Mac the "2006 and later" processor.
However, not having a current version of FlashPlayer should not affect your ability to download. If you try downloading, do you get an error message or does something else happen?
Do you have another web browser like FireFox or Camino on your computer?

Well, "running right" may be doable but "up to date" may not be. You are already at as high a Mac OS level that a pre-2006 Mac can use. We need to pin down your variant to make recommendations. From your Apple menu at the left end of the menu bar, do "About this Mac":
That brings up this window:
Let us know what yours say for "processor." The two choices are "PowerPC" as in the example, or "Intel." If you have an Intel processor, you have more options available.

Old Mac that won't install cd printing software
When I tried to load the software that came with my HP Photosmart7520 it told me that I don't have a new enough version of OS X to be compatable. My computer is just old enough that I cannot download the newest version of OS. How can I print from my laptop to my new printer?

I do not use the Internet using wifi I use 3G mobile broadband and if I do need wifi it tells me I have to pay for it, but I can not work out how to install or connect my iPad with my new printer if there is not a cd slot or USB port. I only have an iPad no computer so how on earth do I use my printer with it if it I can't install the printer cd. I though I would be able to use Bluetooth and it would pick it up automatically but I am really confused now and don't know what to do please help.
The iPad uses AirPrint technology to print to a printer. Check this Apple support page to see if your printer is listed as being AirPrint compatible.

If your printer works with AirPrint you will need a Wi-Fi network in order to connect. That Wi-Fi network does not need to be connected to the Internet. As James Ward4 says, you'll need a Wi-Fi router to set up your network. Most routers require that a computer be used during the setup process. Perhaps you could use someone's computer to do the setup if you do not had one yourself. Once the router is set up you should be able to print. -
On how many mac's can I install Lion
I purchased Lion on my mac mini which I use as media center with Philips LCD (at the moment lot of problems as 10.7 has a bug with HDMI output to LCD TV's but assume that will be fixed soon). Now I also would like to install Lion on my MAc Pro, if I log in the app store on my mac pro I am unable to download Lion . The icon say's install instead of the price so it recognises that I have purchased it all ready but it does not download. As I only have one account with Apple it looks impossible to install Lion on two Mac's.
Anybody any hints or tips ?

When you purchase Lion from the Mac App Store, you can install it on all your authorized Mac computers. Just sign in to the Mac App Store from each Mac and download Lion from the Purchases list.

May be a connection problem, just try again. Go to the purchased tab, when you click Install, you should be asked for your Apple Account, then you should see: -
The air port is on and it is asking to join the network that is available, I type in the passcode and every time it comes back connection failed.
I havr trird the same set up on manyn other of my apple devices, ( Ipad, Iphone 4 & 4S, Mac book pro 15" & 13" they all work fine with the same passcode)
I cant figure out why this power book is failing to connect to the wifi and or ethernet connection. I also tried to connect to a hard wire conection LAN and it still stated that it was not connected to the ethertnet.
please helpSince it doesn't connect via wifi or ethernet, something is not setup correctly. Don't know if Safari in OS 10.5 works the same as Safari in OS 10.4, but open Safari. When Safari doesn't connect to the internet, you should get a message that will walk you thru the setup. Do this first when connected via ethernet.

Apple remote desktop 3.7.2 has update that can not install. Product was purchased as shrink wrap
I have just updated to Yosemite on my 2009 MBP and am informed that I have an Apple Remote Desktop update to apply in the App Store.
Product was purchased as shrink wrap a few years ago with 3 user licences. However I can't apply the update
Looking at the version numbers they seem the same at 3.7.2
How can I get this updated so I am not pestered in the App Store?I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.

CS2 is a PowerPC application which can only run on older PowerPC Macs.
Intel Macs can run PowerPC apps but only when Rosetta is installed. Apple discontinued Rosetta in OS X 10.7.

I have an old MacMook that can no longer draw power. I want to transfer the files from the old, broken MacBook harddrive to a new MacBook Pro that I just bought. I was curious how to do that since the old MacBook cannot use power.
Get an exterior enclosure & put the hard drive from your old Mac into it & they attach to your new computer.

I have an old mac and wish to install an iphoto program. The app store only offers me the latest version of iphoto, but I think the mac can only support iphoto 5. Any suggestions on where I can get iphoto 5?
Do you have the disks that came with the old Mac? If you do you can install the iApps from one of those disks.
Otherwise, what Mac model do you have? Go the the ➙ About This Mac menu and then click on More Information. In the System Information under Hardware you'll find Model Name. What is the model? I'tll be something like Macbook 5,2.

Happy Mac that will not go away
My worse case scenario is now in play. I tried starting in OS 9. I have a Happy Mac that will not go away. Hard shutdown and restart and it is the same story.
I read somewhere that you could hold down the "X" key after the tone to force the system to load OS X but as far as I can tell that is nothing more than a fairy tale. I have tried it in the past and I tried it repeatedly last night.
I have no apparent way to get this computer to start up without using CDs - I cannot use a startup CD or Disk Warrior or anything else because my G4 MMD is currently not recognizing that there is a combo drive present. It was part of troubleshooting that problem that caused me to try to startup in OS 9 to begin with.
IF I was able to get it to startup in Target mode, could I use a laptop to try to change the change the startup HD system back to 10.4.8? If ever I needed help before, I need it now. PLEASE, any ideas?What I used was the Option key. That showed all of the OS that are in my machine. I chose OS 10.4.3 and started up. I clean permission both in OS X and OS9, and restarted with the drive with OS 10.4.8. I understand that will even work with external opticals with CDs.
The kicker is that even after repairing OS 9 permissions, I tired a restart and ran into the same issue. I got out of it the same way with the Option - a very powerful command at start up if your system is configured efficiently to use it. I did not try the OS 9 on the drive with OS 10.4.3 but I guess it would be the same. I'll try it if I am ever forced into it.
So I am to go - go back to figuring out why my 2 internal optical drives (who reappeared during all of the above) will not read media, that is. It does not reject them it just ignores them. But, that is another thread.
