HT4927 How do I retrieve photos from Time Machine on a new macbook air?

My previous mac book pro had all my photos on it. I thought I saved the library to a disk, but was unsuccessful. I also backed up my photos to my Time machine daily.  Once my macbook and coffee got acquainted, it no longer worked. I am unable to retrieve my photos from anywhere, nor do I know how to access them from my time machine. When I enter time machine, the date only goes as far back as to when I started back ups with the new macbook. How can I obtain them? I have a lot of baby photos I'm without.

Not for photos as I don't have alot of room, nor am I 100% know what I am doing.

Launch Time Machine, go to the time you want to restore from and select what you want to restore and click restore - once the photos are restored improt to iPhoto - or restore the entire iPhoto librarhy and use it

You might post this query on the iPhoto forum and perhaps someone there can provide an answer.
I tried this on my MBP and it seems that you have to restore the entire iPhoto Library.  What I did was put the current library in a separate folder on the desktop and then I restored the library from a prior date.  If you were to do that, you then could extract the desired photos and then delete the restored library.  Then place the current library back to the original location and import the desired photos.
Not tidy but it seems it will work.
    Ciao.

  • How can i retrieve bookmarks from time machine?

Hello. I need major help. This past weekend, I had to wipe the HD on my Macbook Pro. I did have Time Machine backups at the time. Is there any way to retrieve my old Firefox bookmarks from Time Machine? Please help. I'm trying to recover more than two years of work. Please help! :-)

You would have to find the previously used Firefox profile folder in the Time Machine backup.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
The profile folder consists of a part with a random name and a trailing file extension part that shows in the Profile Manager.
You need to go one level up and locate that folder in the time machine backup.
    */Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/
Then you need to transfer the places.sqlite file to the current profile folder or possibly use a JSON backup to restore the bookmarks.
Make sure to remove other possible places.sqlite files (places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal in particular).

  • How do I restore from time machine on a new macbook pro ?

    Hello,
My Macbook pro was stollen about 2 months ago and i'm currently debating on which Macbook retina I should get, the higher 13" or the higher 15" model. In either case, how do I go about restoring the system to which my old macbook pro was at ? i.e getting the same itunes songs files, iPhoto pictures etc.
I have read that if the version of the os x in the time machine was an earlier than that on the new machine it would cause problems. so how do can I work around that if i face this problem ?
One last question, how can I know the space needed on the new system for the restoration from the time machine?

The new machine will boot into Setup Assistant, and you'll be prompted to import the data from a Time Machine backup, among other options. A system-version mismatch is OK.

  • Time Machine and the New Macbook Air

I am selling my iMac and have purchased a new Macbook Air. Since it does not have firewire or a DVD drive, does anyone know if I can ask Time Machine to restore the latest iMac backup directly to the MBA as a way of transferring my files to the new computer? Thanks.

Where are your backups? If they're on a USB drive, or a Time Capsule, you should be able to use +Setup Assistant+ on first boot. See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum).

  • How to move iTunes library from time machine backup to new user

I recently pruchased a new imac and woiuld like to move my entire itunes and iphoto library to a new user I set up for the new computer. I used time machine to backup my old computer (a Macbook pro I purchased in 2007), but it just transferred the exact dektop I had on the laptop, and I cannot access any of my files from the new user. So at this point I need to start with transferring the two previously mentioned sets of files to the new user, and then I also need to know how to set my computer to default to the new user when it first boots up instead of it starting up with the time machine backed up user as it does now. Thanks!

I forgot to mention the iMac is running snow leopard and macbook pro is Mountain Lion

  • How do I send photos from my cell phone to my macbook air?

I have an LG Optimus F3 cell phone with bluetooth.  I thought I could wirelessly transfer photos from the phone to my Macbook Air.
I successfully paired these two devices, but when I go into the Bluetooth menu and select the Bluetooth for my Macbook Air, the phone shows "No nearby Bluetooth devices found"  and in System Preferences in the Air, it shows my phone as "Not Connected".  I can't figure out what I have missed!   Help please!

Thanks for the info!  Yes, my phone supports Bluetooth transfers and I had previously successfully paired both the phone with the Air and vice versa.  I also checked out the Air manual and the phone manual and everything was correct.... but, I gave up after several attempts and ended up emailing the photos from my phone.  It took a while but, it worked.  Next time I see my son, I will go over it with him becuase he is much more Mac savvy than I am!  I appreciate the input.  Thanks again!
