HT4929 I don't have system requirements for icloud, will I lose my mail ?
What will happen if I don't move to icloud in 30 days. I don't have the system requirement and will have to buy lion and more memory.
I've very unhappy with apple for forcing us to move to the cloud. I don't care about syncing all of my devices.
Heres the immediate confusion that could have been easily avoided: The main page at me.com/move seems to strongly suggest that if your computer is not yet upgraded to Lion, the main requirement for iCloud, you cant move to iCloud. The statement is that ALL devices must be compatible in order to "move".
But then, at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4929
the first sentence is
"If you cannot update all of your devices to the iCloud system requirements, you can still move to iCloud, but iCloud services will work only on the devices that meet the system requirements".
So, if you want iCloud features on your OTHER devices, (most useful if you have more than one other device), you would move to iCloud (paradoxically -- in my case-- using a computer that will not (yet) be able to use iCloud), and reset your Mail settings as per the link above. You can still access some synced data on the non-Lion machine via a browser at iCloud.com.
From my read of HT4929, if instead you opted not to move, but only "keep using my email", (if you did not care about any other syncing), you might NOT have to change your Mail settings, (thats been my experience so far) or you may have to soon, when things actually shift (sometime after the supposed deadline) at the mail server-side, (as per Rogers comment above).
Thats how I see it.

Not from scratch, no. If you had cloned it to an external firewire drive before you had the problems then you could have created a bootable external drive from which to start the computer. If the hard drive has failed then it's too late to do that now. Similarly, you could have tried [BootCD|http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7957] with Panther, but too late since it needs something from which to work.
To what extent has this "failed?" Does it boot to a grey screen, or do nothing at all? If it will get to a grey screen then the drive isn't dead but probably the directory is corrupt. Your options then are to try fsk, invest in Diskwarrior to try and repair the directory, or invest in a data rescue program to try and recover files. It is possible to run fsk from the Darwin screen (black screen with text) if it will at least boot that far. fsk won't fix much but it is worth a try and is free.

I have a MacBook Pro v10.4.11 and I just bought an iPhone 4. I need itunes 10 but it requires Mac 10.5. I tried checking for software updates but nothing. Can anyone tell me how to sync my phone?
You will have to upgrade to Leopard 10.5 at least. With a MacBook Pro you could possibly go as far as the most recent OSX version, 10.7 Lion. Alternatively you could go for 10.6 Snow Leopard. Which versions you can run depend upon your computer's specifications.
These aren't free downloads. For Lion check the main Apple page since this is what they currently sell in the store. Snow Leopard is probably still available through Apple Sales, and even Leopard might just happen to be. If your MBP supports it I'd go for Snow Leopard at least since it is still being supported by Apple and would be much cheaper than Leopard (note, because you are running Tiger they will strongly urge you to buy the more expensive box set, but unless you feel you want to update your other software most people just go with the basic $29 SL upgrade). -
Why does my PC not receive photos from relatives who posted them through icloud from a MAC?

It will not work, you need to upgrade to Lion 10.7.2 or later. Get that from the Mac App Store.

I want to install a helicopter simulator into my MacPro1,1 with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB and Open GL 1.7.7. Recommended system requirements for the heli simulator are: OpenGL Version 2.1 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512MB (at least as fast as NVIDIA 8600, 9400 or ATI Radeon HD 2400). Are you really still running 10.6.3? you will need 10.6.5+ so do that and make a clone.

Does not meet the system requirement for installing BB App World
I bought a Curve 8520 in Singapore yesterday. When i tried to download App world into this phone, it says "my phone does not meet the system requirement for the software". does it refer to hardware specification or the BB O/s version on the phone. How can fix it because being able to use App world is one of the purposes that i buy a BB.

A key component in accessing AppWorld is your carrier -- if they are not delivering it, then you can't get it. If you don't have an adequate plan from them that incudes it, then you can't get it. Hence, if you meet the hardware requirements AND it is available in your country, then you need to contact your carrier to find out how you can get it via their network.
All that said, AppWorld is merely a storefront, vending apps developed by others...there are many other storefronts available that don't have the same restrictions.

Realistic system requirements for Design Premium on MAC
Hi,
Can anyone give me some realistic system requirements for CS4 Design Premium? I am just about ripping my hair out with having to reboot several times a day because i'm running out of memory on my PC and am thinking about switching to MAC.
I am currently running a PC well above the recommended specs for Design Premium CS4 and it looks as though I will have to upgrade anyway. Designer friends tell me their MACs never require rebooting (but again i guess it depends on the MAC specs).
My questions are:
* If i buy a MAC, what would I need to buy to comfortably run Design Premium CS4 without any crashes?
* reading some of the other discussion threads in this forum it seems some products don't work/aren't supported by MAC? Of the Design Premium products which ones would I have issues with?
* Does anyone know what the deal is with switching the software licensing from Windows to Mac? (I heard you can only switch if you are upgrading which would mean I would have to wait until CS5 is released.)
Advice would be appreciated!!

I do use a few of the programs at once: Bridge + Photoshop + Illustrator + Indesign (actually, have learnt cannot run all of these at once but would love to!);
Dreamweaver + Fireworks (Fireworks constantly causes me headaches where files become locked and cannot be saved - all due to shortage of memory)
Usually run virus software - full scan weekly, so am pretty sure my system is clean.
Great idea about disabling Virus software - will ensure I unplug from modem first!! I will give that a go.

Does anyone have the hardware and system requirements for OBIEE 11g? I'm trying to procure hardware for an internal environment but want to make sure that the system requirements have not changed significantly from 10g.
Can anyone share this information? It would be greatly appreciated. I know 11g is not out yet but trying to get a headstart on ordering hardware in preparation.I don't think there will be any major changes in the hardware side of things. Basically anything that was able to run 10g should be able to run 11g. They will probably add support for newer software components which normally happens at each release.

I don't know about ideal, but I'm using an Intel Core2 Duo, 3.16ghz, 3.46gb ram, winXP Pro SP3. This is an HP branded PC, it uses the onboard Q45 video.
I rarely have any problems that I haven't caused myself (having too many applications open while I work).

They are listed here, but if you don't already have it, I sure wouldn't opt for that version at this point. It won't run as well on your computer as CS4 and up will.

PageMaker 1 ran on very early Macs. I recall running it on a MacPlus. It might even have run on earlier machines than that. It worked off floppies, if memory serves.
I don't recall exactly when 2 and 3 came along. I'd guess that 2 was around 1989 and 3 something like 1992. But just which version of Mac OS was the norm then has long-since slipped my memory.
Not much help, I'm afraid.

I don't know the answers to your questions Matt. Sorry. I don't have anything older than CS2 installed anywhere.
What I typed was directly off the v5 and 6 Deluxe packaging. No other info was there.
The AI7 packaging states 25mb are needed for installation. I imagine AI5 and AI6 are less than that. I'd also guess that 6 "Deluxe" has the Dimensions trial, and a few other non-required resources on the CD. There was no v6 and v6 Deluxe. It's a "Deluxe CD" that you could get with v6 on it, but the AI version was the same if I remember correctly.
I think Photoshop 5 shipped on CD, but you could contact Adobe to get 3.5" floppies if you needed. If I recall correctly, Photoshop has shipped on CD since v4.
As for graphics requirements, they would be very low end. Mac video cards were not monsters back then. Anything with millions of colors and a 640x480 resolution would work I imagine. But I'm guessing here.
