HT4946 iMessage: cannot use phonenumber, it's grey in settings (with a checkmark)

In this weekend I've changed my Apple ID password. After entering it over a 100 times on my Mac, iPhone, Apple TV and iPad I thought everything was fine. Until friends said that iMessages turned into texts/sms on my phonenumber.
I see in iMessage settings that I have four items: 1 number (with checkmark, grey) and 3 mailadresses (with checkmarks, black). Below the option "start new conversations from" has my number (in black!) with a checkmark.
There is no way I get my number back in black, so it's broadcast as a receivable iMessage number.
I disabled iMessages, I disabled iMessages in Airplane mode, in Airplane mode with wifi. I also disabled Facetime. Rebooted before enabling it. Signed out of iMessages. Force reboot. With and without doing the same on iPad. But no luck.
Though I saw on my iPhone that my iPad was able to use my phonenumber, but not the other way around.
Does anybody have any idea? I searched this forum, but I found solutions I've tried (see my actions above).

  • "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version...

I recently needed to replace my hard drive and now when I try to open the Mail application I get the following message: "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X."
    Any help is appreciated.

    ANSWERING MY OWN POST:
I have tried reinstalling Mail from my Snow Leopard upgrade disk directly and tried it using Pacifist. Neither worked because both simply reinstalled version 4.0. Fortunately, I have a MacBook Pro and it has version 4.1. I copied this directly, which was not ideal (it was quite confused about my mailboxes), but it worked.
The problem is that +Software Update+ did not detect the old version of Mail and Apple does not provide a direct way (that I could find) of downloading the latest version. Each time I downloaded Mail from Apple, it was version 4.0.

  • You cannot use this version of the application iCa with this version of Mac OS x

Bought a macbook pro from a friend- running 10.5.8. Could not find iCal in the Apps folder. Researched on line and it sounded like I needed to reinstall it from the disk. I did from the original os x disk and when I tried to open it, received the following message:
you cannot use this version of the application iCa with this version of Mac OS x
I have two disk for version 10.2. Neither disk offers "optional installs" but the second has "AdditionalApplications.pkg" but doen not install iCal at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. That brings up a whole new question- can I run 10.6 on my macbook? The specs are below:
    Model Name:
    MacBook Pro 15"
      Model Identifier:
    MacBookPro1,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache:
    2 MB
      Memory:
    2 GB
Was told at Apple Store that it would run terribly slow.

  • You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version OSX

I just installed 10.5.8 (9L30) via Software Update and now my Mail doesn't work. Instead, I get a dialog box that says "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X." When I run it out of Terminal from /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail it runs fine, even though it is Version 3.5 (which is what shows up when I do Get Info on the Mail application in the Applications folder). This is really poor, Apple. This is basic stuff -when you upgrade the OS you have to make sure all the Apps work. How are you going to fix this?

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
Apple obviously are stupid enough to release an update that broke mail..
Then how do you explain all the people saying they've had no problems with the update? (Oh, and "Apple are"???)
Not everyone had the problem. Good for them. More than one person had the problem - and perhaps even more will experience it. That means there is a hole in the update process - i.e. something does not work properly in all situations. Apple is not God - they stuff up sometimes, innit? Stop defending them.
No matter whether you use a Mac or Windows machine, you need to do some basic maintenance from time to time to keep things working smoothly. Macs, overall, tend to need less, but you still need to check the hard drive from time to time, and you definitely never want to install an OS update if there's a chance you've got hard drive problems.
So if that's the case, why design an "automatic" Software Update utility that does not do a check of HD integrity if it is so vital to do such a check before installing an OS upgrade? Does that make any sense? Where do Apple recommend such a check prior to installing an OS upgrade? It's not immediately obvious do the average user. Apple have gone out of their way to make claims like "you never have to defrag a Mac". They don't mention anything about HD checks. If it's so fundamental, why not? Is it unreasonable to think that a company that prides itself on good design would think of this?
Thank you for the link for the consolidated update. That fixed it - except that it should have worked first go from the auto updater.

  • You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Ma

My hardrive died so I got it replaced and since I bought my macbook on ebay I have no Installation discs so got a friend to install leopard - everything so far seems ok but when I click Mail this comes up -'You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X.'. Any ideas? Ive ran software update and its all up to scratch..

    Greetings,
You seem to have a conflict somewhere, and it looks like you have a prior version of Mail that doesn't work with Leopard, along with the Leopard version of Mail. What version was on the Mac when you bought it, and where did the version of Leopard come from, exactly (was it a retail boxed version, or a version that shipped with another model of laptop)? Be very specific, as it does make a difference.

  • Cannot use mac mini dvi to composite adaptor with TV

I am having a problem and I am wondering if the adaptor is broken or something.
When I try to hook the mac mini (g4) up to my tv via RCA cable through the adaptor the screen just flickers on the tv, if I adjust the resolution sometimes it flickers less but there is multiples on the screen and it is all black and white and extermely grainy.
I can't see or really make anything out no matter what resolution I try. What is the problem here? Can anyone help?

Hi, I am a newcomer to this discussion but I have the exact same problem so I'd like to see it resolved if possible. Like the original questioner, I am trying to use an old TV (Panasonic circa 1990) with only composite jacks (plus coax of course) as the monitor for a new mac mini. When I bought the mac mini a couple weeks ago, the guy at the store said they didn't stock a DVI to RCA adaptor, but he located one online sold by a company called Sewell, so I ordered it. But it doesn't work, the screen just shows black snow. Even so, it seems something is coming over the line. My only guess is that even though this is the one the Apple guy recommended, it might be the wrong one: the TV end has 3 connectors (red, blue and green) while my TV only has two jacks (yellow and white).
One other thing: how do you adjust the resolution on the mac mini if you can't see the screen?
    Any thoughts?

  • I cannot use the scrolling feature on my touchpad with Firefox

Computer is Gateway NV52 Series with a multi-gesture touch pad running Windows 7 64 bit. Trying to use Mozilla Firefox 26

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Cannot use Snagit 8's scrolling window feature with Firefox anymore.

Snagit 8 is a screen capture program. It has a scrolling window feature that captures the whole web page. After the last FF update it no longer functions. It only captures what is viewed on the screen and no longer scrolls down to capture the whole page. I can still do this in IE (blah).
    == The last update

same problem for me but no solution. IE8 ok.

"You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X"
I recently updated to 10.5.8 because my iTunes needed the new Safari and that needed 10.5.8
After doing this, my mail no longer works and gives me the message above. What I don't understand is why is there an update that is required for one this but doesn't allow you to run another? Am I missing a Mail update to allow it to run on 10.5.8???
I've already went through apple care and they walked me through running an Archival Install to get my computer back to its original settings, but that means I can't use Safari 4 and iTunes 9...
Is there a way to have it all, Mail, 10.5.8, Safari 4 and iTunes 9? Please help, my mail is the only way I can check my work e-mail and it's not something I can just go without. Thank you

Since you've restored your computer you won't be able to check the version number of your Mail application, but the question about moving Mail may still apply.

  • Cannot use telephone after setting up fax

I use the same line for talking and faxing. After I plugged in the phone line to the fax my phone stopped working. I can dial out and the phone rings in but nobody can hear me and I cannot hear them.

    Hi @acmyra76,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you cannot use your telephone after setting up fax with your HP Officejet 6830 on Windows 8. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
Is your phone line an analog or digital phone service? Analog. Digital. What’s the Difference?
If your phone service is digital you may need to get a filter for the line.
I would recommend going through this guide, Cannot Send or Receive Faxes, to verify the fax is connected properly.
For future reference, here is your printer's user guide, HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer User guides.
You might also want to contact your phone company as well, just to make sure there are no issues with them.
Hope this information helps, and hope to hear from you soon!

  • Safari version 5.0 message"Cannot use this version w/this version of Mac"?

Just installed Mac OSX 10.5.8 update combo, restarted my computer and now when I try to open Safari I am getting the message "You cannot use this version of the application Safari with this version of Mac OSX." What gives? And I must say I am NOT very computer savy so please be specific if you know what I need to do Thanks

Carolyn, thanks for being there, I have just kind of been messing around looking into different things, that's my way of learing all this computer stuff, and then actually realized that I had been trying to open an old version of my Safari and not my updated 5.0.
I'm sure I will need you in the future so don't go any where LOL Thanks Deb

  • X6 Headest - Cannot use my headset as a handsfree ...

    Hello everyone!
From some reason I cannot use my headset (the ones that came with the X6) as a handfree kit.
I plug them in - choose Headset option - but cannot hear anything when someone calls me or when I call someone else. Am I missing something???
I haven't experienced any problems with the music player. When I choose the Headphones option to listen to music everything is noraml. However, I am not able to control the music (play/pause, fwd, next, sound) with the remote. Why is that???
    Please help!
    Thanx!
    Kiki

Yeah not that fast, but sometime when we plug-in the jack half way and then after a pause we push it down, phone doesn't understand what it is, and a pop-up comes up saying select Accessory. (At least from my experience)

Hi. After loading a picture into Photoshop some of the menu tools are greyed out and I cannot use the keyboard short cuts, for instance I cannot use Ctrl + T for free transform, how do I resolve this problem. In addition the tool Icons are so small I have to get close to the screen to see them, is there anyway the Icons can be made bigger without reducing the resolution of the screen.
    Thanks
    Derek

Are you working on a background layer? If so, Ctrl + T will not work. Press Alt and double-click your background layer to convert to a normal layer (or right-click BG layer and select Layer from Background) and try again.
If you're working in Photoshop CC 2014 you can go to Preferences > Experimental Features and tick "Scale UI 200% for high-density displays" to make your buttons and icons larger.
