  • IPhone back up corrupted/Cannot back up IPhone 3gs

Hello chaps. My fiance has been unable to back up her IPhone 3gs recently in preparation of upgrading to IOS 5.
In the first instance she received an error message saying " An error occurred while backing up this IPhone (-5000)" , after which she decided to install the latest version of ITunes and try again. Unfortunately this has done nothing to help and after following advice from the apple which told her to delete previous backups and start again she found no backups to delete.
Today she thought she would try backing up the IPhone again on the off chance it was a glitch however this error message has now come up (See picture below).
If anyone has any ideas as to what she could do to remedy this problem both she and I would be grateful.
    Many thanks people !

Adition to main post the steps that have been taken with regards to this issue.
No1 Initially upgraded Itunes to 10.5 resulting in her computer freezing and needing a hard boot.
No2 After hard boot she plugged in the Iphone 3gs and tried to sync but got an error msg (-5000)
No3 Next day tried again but this time had "Corrupt back up msg" (as above image)
No4 Followed Apples online directions for removing corrupt back ups and deleted them all.
No5 After experiencing the same problem followed Apple support and used the "Repair" function for Itunes.
No6 After this got to step one of back up but it stuck their for 6 hrs until she gave up.
No7 Removed Itunes via Apples online directions and then downloaded (again) 10.5 and installed it.
No8 Apple store doesnt load but the apps update fine (no drop in internet connection)
No9 Iphone still wont sync, not even getting past the initiation stage !
Please help anyone who knows any other steps we could try ??

  • IPhone back up corrupted

A few months ago I had a problem with my iPhone.  After being advised by a "genius" that I needed to get a new iPhone, I went home and did a new back up as instructed, but when I was given the new iPhone it would not back up my phone.
I lost some of my logs from work and several photos.  I still have the old back up files on my computer, but want I want to know is there a way to recover those files and photos from that back up.
When I went back to the genius bar and presented the problem they told me that was not possible, but it seems if the data is there, it should be possible to recover it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Corrupted data is irretreivable.

  • Cannot sync iphone back up corrupt not compatable

downliooaded latest itunes and now cant back up

Was getting message that back up is corrupt. Now that I learned how to remove the back up, the problem is with backing up my iphone. The back up starts, then locks up. I have to use task manager to stop it. I have spent hours with tech support and they can't fix it. I have removed itunes and all apple software in proper order, reinstalled it many times, and tried everything apple told me to do. Still can't create a back up. It's not the phone cause I can back up to another computer. Now anti-virus or firewall as tried removing them too. Tried everything except the correct think.

  • Recover pictures from corrupted, encrypted iPhone back up

    Hi,
I have an issue with trying to get the pictures from the Camera Roll off my last Iphone 4 back up, prior to upgrading to the Iphone 4S.
I backed up to iTunes prior to changing phones.  Stupidly I encrypted it not realising the consequences of this later down the line.
I am now trying to utilise the back up by putting it on the 4S but iTunes goes so far and then states that the back up is corrupt or not compatable with the phone.  I then tried to put the back up onto my old IPhone 4S and it did not work either.
Aware that there are a number of products out there on the market that will be able to delve into the Iphone back ups stored on an Imac, I have not come across one of these that is able to to this to an encrypted back up.
         I have a few questions:
Is it worth trying to put the back up on the Iphone 4 that I took it off as this is now my girlfirends phone and I will have to convince her to give it back to me?
Is there anyway of repairing the back up?
Is there a product that will allow me to get into an encrypted back up?
What I am running is as follows.
Imac OSX Lion with latested update and updated Iphoto, Itunes.
    Iphone 4S - IOS 5
    Help much appreciated.

No, sorry.  Unless they are saved or backed up somewhere else, they are gone.  Did you use iCloud backup?  If so, the camera roll pics should be in that iCloud backup.

    dave0915,
iTunes stores your iPhone backups in the Library folder in your Home folder.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes

  • Can I restore a iPhone back up from time machine and if so how?

I have upgraded my iphone to IOS 7 this morning. However as I was backing up my phone, the cable I was using was removed from the macbook.
I now have a iPhone back up that is corrupted, and when i try and restore my settings to the new IOS7 upgraded phone, it will not allow my old settings to be placed on the phone.
I am therefore thinking of using an old back up from Time Machine, but do not know how to access itunes from time machine. Everytime I try and enter iTunes from my Time Machine vault it says Mac OSX requires the application and therefore cannot be restored.
Please help or tell me what I should be doing instead.
I have a feeling I will lose my app data and have to manually sort my home screens. Luckily all my contacts, emails, photos etc are synced to iCloud, but the back up of my iphone isn't as I don;t have the upgraded space on ICloud and have a iPhone thta has 16GB on it.
Cheers in anticipation of your help

Hi Lawrence. Thanks so much for that advice - I'm really grateful. I hope you don't mind me asking a couple more questions: I have found that folder via Finder - I clicked on Library then App Support then Mobile Sync and within that, there's a folder called Backup and within that, 4 files. I also tried accessing it via the Go/go to folder method you suggested (in case that revealed more which remain hidden unless I use your route) but I couldn't make that route work.
I presume I'm looking at the correct files but please advise me if it's still possible that I'm not.
I had already tried to look at these backup files in Time Machine. They appear to be backed up, going back a year. If I can restore one from yesterday, that should solve my problem. However I've looked through them randomly going back a month or more, and they all seem to have been created in 2013, and last modified then. Only one of the files has a more recent 'last modified' date. But surely Time Machine has captured each backup of the iPhone going back over time?   I'm baffled.
I hope the above makes sense. I'd be really grateful for any further advice.

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to put photos that had been copied to iPhone back in computer???

How do I copy photos that I had stored on my iPhone back to my computer?
    This is what has happened:
    My hard drive recently died.
My TimeMachine iPhoto library was corrupt after the restore and, after I opened an earlier backup, some photos disappeared from my iPhoto library. Luckily I had transfered some of these missing photos to my iPhone.
Only the latest camera roll from my iPhone shows up in the import window in iPhoto.
When I click the sync button for photos in the iTunes window, it warns me that all photos in the iPhone will be wiped and replaced with the new iPhoto library (which is old/incomplete since a recent hard drive failure) but there is no way to merge photos on both devices nor to transfer my photos from my iPhone to my computer...
Anyone know how to get photos from the iPhone to my computer (not just the last roll, which can be imported easily when phone is plugged in)???

There are no options really to get access to the photo files unless you use some 3rd party tool that we cannot help with here.
Also note, when you synced photos over, they got "optimized" for the iPhone (made smaller) so even if you got them off, they will not be the original quality.
One option you can do is go to your photos, when looking at the thumbnail view of them tap the icon in bottom left (arrow looking icon).
Then start tapping all your pics to select them.
Do NOT use the Share option (as that will make even smaller copies to email). Instead when done selecting all the ones you want, choose the Copy command at the bottom.
Then leave and go to Email.
Start a new email to your self.
Paste the images in (will take some time if you picked a lot).
Once it has finished processing, email it.
This will send you the size/quality of the image you have on the phone (as mentioned not the same as original).
Then on computer check email and save out the files.

  • Can't sync events created on the iPhone back to Outlook or iCal

after upgraded my two iPhones to 1.1.4 I cannot sync events created in the iPhone back into Outlook on my Vista machine or iCal on my Macbook (for the second iPhone). I searched the forum but found no answer other than a RESTORE... I already needed a RESTORE in one of the iPhones as music data got corrupted after upgrade (it created a huge OTHER file.
1.1.4 fixed bugs and added quite a few!
any advice out there other than RESTORE? As always the helpful agent from apple support suggests restoring the iPhone and denies anybody else having issues.

The first question I wold have to trouble shoot your problems is: Do you have an active open account on Outlook? Do you have more then one account active on outlook? When you connect your iPhone to iTunes and go to the second Tab...What boxes do you have selected? Are you set up to Auto or Manual Sync?
Currently I have one active account in Outlook that is displaying my MSN account that was IMAP'd through izymail.com. All of my sync modes are set to manual so that I can control what and when my sync occurs. All of my boxes are checked in the second tab to sync to the outlook account that I have established. If this does not help then please answer the questions above so that I or someone else can assist you further.
    Good Luck

I recently had to send my old iPhone back and get a new one. When I did, I simply did a restore and backup with my computer. When I did that, my iMessage between my iPhone and iPad are no longer synced. No matter how many times I went to settings, messages and adjusted it, my iPad and iPhone recognize when I send a message out but not when I received a message from another IMessage user to my iPhone. My iPad simply doesn't get those messages. HELP!!!!

If it's corrupt, generally it would be lost.
However, there is third-party software out there that can retrieve some of the data, those of which however I could not recommend as I have never done so myself.
Also, if the old 4S was running a more recent software version than the current 4S, that may cause the issue however usually iTunes tells you exactly that.
Good luck in retrieving that information.

I am trying to put songs onto my brand new iPhone.  I have itunes version 10.6.3 and it says that I need 10.7 or earlier in order to sync the IPhone, so I found that download, attempted to download it, but now it says you need Mac OS X 10.6.8 or better.  I'm running 10.5.8, can't find anywhere on the website an option to update my computer to 10.6.8, tried the software update option and it comes up saying my software is up to date.  I am now extremely frustrated and ready to take my iPhone back to future shop and to tell them to keep it.  I had this exact same problem when I got my new iPad in october.  It still doesn't have any music on it because I could figure this out.  Someone please help!

Correct.  When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box.  This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands.  It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.
10.6 software is not downloadable.  You must purchase a DVD disc.  You can order it from the on-line apple store
