  • IPod touch disabled, cannot get into recovery mode or unlock to enter passcode.

I've got an 8GB iPod touch that is disabled, cannot be unlocked, and it will not go into recovery mode. When I plug it into iTunes, it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod touch before it can be used with iTunes." At the top is a red banner that says "iPod is disabled connect to iTunes" and it won't let me unlock it to enter a passcode and I've tried the recovery mode where you plug it in when powered off holding the home button, but I guess the iPod isn't updated enough for it to work (doesn't look like the new Apple OS) because when I do that, it just powers on like normal. What do I need to do because I'm definitely at a stopping point. Please help me get this iPod into working condition.

Try Recovery Mode again. Timing is critical so it may not have been done correctly the first time. Detailed instructions at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.

  • Ipod is disabled.....Have tried to restore....Please Help!!

    Hi,
My neice asked me to help fix her ipod. It says ipod disabled please connect to itunes. This is the 2nd time it has happened, 1st time her friend restored through itunes but my neice has managed to disable it again! This time im trying to fix it using different itunes and computer than before. When i connect to my computer itunes tells me it cannot connect due to incorrect passcode so to insert correct passcode on the ipod but i cant as its totally disabled.
I have gone through all the instructions (some vary but i have tried all versions more than once) telling me how to restore but after the apple symbol it is supposed to come up with the picture of the cord and computer this is when itunes connects apparently for you to restore. However the apple symbol appears and when i keep holding home button it just flashes back up to the original screen saying ipod disabled please connect to itunes!!!!!! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Oh i also made sure i downloaded all of the updates for itunes so the version is the very newest incase this was a problem but it still does not help.
Im really losing the will now, please can someone help me!
    Thank you
    Denise

I know this sounds stupid, but I was having the same problem.Everyone was telling me how to restore it and when I was suppose to get the "connect usb to apple logo", I never got it and it went straight to start up just like normal. Like I said I know this sounds stupid, but I worked on this thing for 6 hours and finally read that it is possible to press the Home button to hard and it will not work.  Soooooo,  I re-did and just barely pressed the Home button, and wah-lah....it worked the first time.  Again, I don't understand and I don't know why, all i do know is that it worked. Good luck and I hoped this helped.

  • My MacBook won't boot into recovery mode after new hard drive installation. Please help!

I just installed a new hard drive. On boot it keeps on going to the flashing folder with a question mark inside.
I was able to format the new hard drive but am unable to boot into recovery mode to install the operating system over the air.
When I hold down Command -R it keeps on taking me to the flashing folder.
    Please help!

A new hard drive doesn't have a recovery partition. It's totally blank. You're going to need either your original install discs or a Snow Leopard retail disc from which partition, format and install OS X.

  • Help!!!  I'm locked out and My Ipod touch will NOT go into recovery mode no matter what I do...I haven't read this problem anywhere!

My grandson got his little hands on my ipod and has locked me out. I now get the red lable of doom and it tells me I must connect to Itunes to fix it.  Problem is I don't have the orginal computer I synced up with. (It crashed about 5 weeks ago).  Well I didn't think that would be that big of a deal becuase I have a lot of junk on my Ipod and had been thinking about re-formating it anyway.  Well I've tried every method out there and I can not get this thing into recovery. I powered it off. unplugged the usb cord from the Ipod but left it plugged into the computer. Held down the Home button and plugged in the USB cord. the little apple logo comes up. Then after about 10 secs it goes right to the disabled screen.
I also tried it on different computers and tried different usb cords, I've tried also going into DFU mode...nothing it just goes right to the password screen...HELP...I've not read about this problem anywhere.

To determine the iOS go to Settings>General>About>Version.
    To update see:
iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
The update option of Settings>General>Software Update only shows if you iOS 5 or later. Otherwise yo have to update via iTunes.
You need iTunes version 10.7 or later . Version 11 is the latest.
    That latest iOS is 6.0.1

well i got my ipod to work. After two days of trying to reboot it and putting it int disk mode I finally thougth it was a goner. So when i turned it on again and the clicking noise started I smacked it into my palm three times and the klicking stopped and it turned on.So to be safe I restored it and am now downloading my music on to it again. I hope your problem will be solved soon.
    Best Of Luck Bernd
p.s. Smacking your ipod is not a fix but it worked in my case.

  • HT201210 my ipod is disabled and when i connect it to itunes it says that i have to enter my password but i cant because there is no swipe bar so what do i do to fix this

my ipod is disabled and when i connect it to itunes it says that i have to enter my password but i cant because there is no swipe bar so what do i do to fix this?

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

Make sure you have the Current Version of iTunes Installed on your computer
    iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
    Then See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...  Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
Some users have reported as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necessary before success.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
    Restore from Backup  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

I bought a used 160GB ipod and I cant get my computer to read it. What do I need to do?

Is your iTunes running the latest version? If not, but the iPod you've bought has been set up to work with the latest version, then iTunes probably will not recognise it.
In iTunes, select Help/Check for updates. If there is a newer version, make sure you are running that before connecting the iPod again.
If that isn't the problem - or more to the point - it doesn't fix the problem, post here again so that anyone watching it can suggest the next step.
