i have music on my ipod nano that was loaded from cds and music on my computer. I am unable to save it to my library or computer i want to save the music or back it up so i can replace my nano. please help

iDevices are not backup devices.
Sync is one way, computer to device.  The only exception being iTunes purchases.
Copy the media from your old computer or the backup of your old computer to the new computer.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

  • When any sound is played online it is terribly gitchy and sounds awful no matter the site, but saved music and games sound perfect.

I just purchased a brand new desktop, athlon 2x dual core 260 with 4 gigs of ram. The computer just arrived yesterday in the mail and ever since first boot up no sounds play properly online (using IE and FireFox). The site doesnt matter, neither does the format. All drivers (realtek) and up to date and I just downloaded the most recent flash build. The problem persists if there is video or not. The real odd thing is that all saved music/video files sound perfect, so do games. Now if I stream music to WMP it sounds just fine, no problems, only when I try to play sounds from a site directly like youtube and the such. I have scoured all possible solutions online and have found no answers. Maybe someone could possibly solve this awful problem for me.

and i run win 7 premium home - i just noticed that there is a volume control for a firefox plugin container in the sound mixer option - could there be an error with this?

  • Manually Saving Music

I need to know how to manually save music, pictures and videos to my iPod 30GB Video because I only have Windows ME and iTunes won't work on it as it needs Windows 2000 or higher. I want to learn how to import music, videos and pictures using My Computer. Does anyone know how to do this? I don't want to have to pay for any software. I've tried to save songs to the iPod folder *:\ipod_control\Music\F00. I've also tried saving music to the other folders [F01-F19] but the iPod won't recognize the songs when I unplug it and turn it on.
Does anyone know how to manually import music, videos and photos?
If not does anyone know of free software that supports Windows ME that I could use?
    Thanks in advance,
    ky.m.guy
      Windows ME

The iPod won't play anything that is manually copied to the device through Windows Explorer. For anything to play it has to be added through management software of some kind and it's unlikely you'll get anything free that will handle as many formats as iTunes (music, video etc). You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, either of which will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:
    XPlay 2
    Anapod Explorer Windows 98/ME Support
I believe EphPod is free though as far as I can see it doesn't do photos or videos. I'm not sure if it works with 98, you'd need to read through the support page : EphPod

  • Help with saving music to a portable HD

In the edit> preferences> advanced area in itunes I had always marked to save all music that is downloaded to my itunes music to also save into the itunes music folder. I had to reinstall itunes about 5 times due to PC issues, nothing to do with itunes or the touch.
The last time (which finally worked with the PC) I forgot to go into the edit
tab and mark this option. Now all the music that I have put into my itunes is not in my itunes music folder on my PC.
The only info I can find regarding saving my music is to save to a disc, which I don't want to do. Can anyone walk me through how to save music from my itunes on to a portable hard drive.
    Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the reply. That is what I did when I had to save my music before sending in the PC for repair. I apologize, I wasn't too clear on my question.
The music that I have recently downloaded since I put the itunes back onto my computer is not in my itunes music folder. Since I didn't mark it to do that on the preferences page when I reinstalled itunes.
I hope I am saying this right. I have all the old stuff in my itunes music folder but none of the new stuff since I didn't make that a preference.
Is there a way to get the new stuff saved?

  • Saving music on external drive

I had been saving all of my music onto an external drive which became full, so I got a bigger one and copied the music folder to it and wanted to save everything to it, but today I notice all new music I have downloaded in going into the "music" file on my main computer drive instead of the external. I told I tunes prefs to put the l tunes library on the new drive, why isn't the music (albums) going there and how do I fix it? I have over 3,000 albums/playlists and I want it all together as I have dowloaded and archived all CDs. Michael

does anyone have any thoughts on this? mfruin

  • Saved music on iphone wont transfer

i saved some old music on my iphone and now it wont transfer libraries! please help

The iphone is not a storage device.
The music sync is one way only.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
All of your music should be on your computer and in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • Saving Music From Itunes to "Key"

    Hey
I really hope someone can help me.
I'm going travelling and bought a "key" or memory stick to save all my music on in case something should happen to my ipod while i'm away. However it won't save. I though i had it saved but then i test it on my P.C at work and there is no music saved just the itunes interface.
Can someone please tell how to transfer my song as i'm leaving Friday and really panicing...
    Thanks

You would need to locate the folder where the music is kept (itune music folder) here you will find all your music in mp3 format each song will be save separatly and each album will be in its own file, then all you need do is select copy and past into the key. Use find to locate the itunes folder. Do this see if it works then post back.
Are you using a p.c to save from

  • New Pc went bang before I saved music, IPOD wasn't mass storeage device...

I had a new computer, new Ipod, downloaded new music, life was peachy, new computer went bang, before I had saved other than on my IPOD, now fixed, but with all files erased, and just discovered that I can't copy my music over as I hadn't made my IPOD a mass storeage device on old version of computer! V V sad and frustrated now! Is there anyway around this other than purchasing the music again????

    Hello Ruthie,
I'm not quite sure from your post whether or not your iPod was erased second time around. If your music is still on your iPod there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these and pick one you are happy with, they are generally quite straightforward.
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive through Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
For future reference, if you find that you have to link to a new library because of some problem you should always get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list, from here you can change the update setting in Preferences>iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists" Managing Your Songs Manually. In manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
If you have managed to retrieve your songs keep your iPod in manual mode until you are happy that everything is back, with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, s and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    YamiPod Mac and Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • I am having problems tranferring saved music on my computer to iTunes.

I am trying to transfer music saved on my computer to iTunes in a second user account.  I had no problems with the first user account.  In this account when I move the files ( have tried 3 different ways, drag and drop the folder, add foder to library and from the link on the empty music page) it srats to transfer music but stops ater I am asked to convert files then none of the music is in iTunes.  Any suggestions, I have already tried creating a new user account and the same thing happened.  All of my music is in a Public music folder accesible to both users and both users are administrators.

Devices do that when connected to a different iTunes library from the one to which they were last connected.

*Is there a way to make my iTunes music folder be on the WD ext HD, even though iTunes isn't installed on that HD?*
You might find these articles useful:

*i am confused as to the difference between a Library and a Playlist. There is only one "Library", right? There are multiple playlist*
The library is everything you have in iTunes, a playlist is just a series of links to items that are in the library. A song or movie can appear once in the library but can be linked to many different playlists.
*Why should i have to keep files i already have on the Touch/ATV in my playlist/Library?*
Your library is your backup so that if anything happens to your iPod for instance and you have to restore it to correct a problem you still have the original files to put back on.
