HT4972 Failed update from ios 4 to the latest 6.
Hi,
As above i have tried to update my fathers iphone from ios4 to the latest version 6, i did the back up ok, installed the software, but now it unresponsive, we haven't even got the
" connect to itunes logo" it keeps saying that activation failed because the server is temporarily unavailable
Any ideas what i can do???
Where exactly did you father buy this phone?
The message you are seeing indicates that the phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it.
then when you updated the phone it locked back up to the original carrier.
Only the carrier that the phone is locked to can unlock it.

I've been told to back up and restore by itunes but I am worry of updating my ios to the latest version automatically.

MohsenRestoring your phone, as is required to complete the unlock of your phone WILL update your iOS to the most current version. There's no way around this.
Either you keep 5.0.1 and a locked phone, or you get 6.0 and an unlocked phone. Your choice. -

I have been experiencing signal related concerns like connecting to 3g network eversince a new software update becomes available in the settings notification. I didn't update to the latest software version because i find it time consuming and tedious. No, you can ignore it for as long as you like, but it sounds as though your phone is already not working properly. Though the following updates do not specifically address your concern it is possible that it could help.

I didn't even want to upgrade to iOS 7 but now I am forced since many apps now don't work under iOS 6 anymore.
Please if you have any idea how to do this, help. I really don't want to jailbreak my phone, I am sure there has to be a way. Many thanks.I understand that. But iOS 8 is even worse on iPhone 4S than iOS 7. It is horrible. Better not to bring up audio apps. - I use my iPhone also as a studio device so I think iOS 7 will actually be the last OS for my phone to function ok.

it's been a while that Im unable to copy music from itunes to my iphone. I updated my device to the latest version of IOS 5.1.1 and made sure no jailbreak is installed but still not working. please assist.
Assuming you are not manually managing your music, verify the following:
You are using the latest version of iTunes
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library you have checked all the songs you want to sync to your phone
There are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
You have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize this computer)
You have checked "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
When everything looks correct, sync your phone. -
i have ios 4.3.3 version and when i try to update my iphone to the latest version it with itunes it can't reach the update server. what should i do?

I have a windows 8 computer and have recently updated my ipod to the latest ios and it has wiped my Ipod clean except for my photos. whilst trying to get my music back using different sources like CD's and stuff i cant seem to get any album art to load on my Ipod? Album artwork can be added/changed on songs via the iTunes Get Info menu item from the File menu. Note that music that you loaded from CDs will not have any artwork. If you want to aquire artwork you can try the File menu item Library > Get Artwork or you can download artwork from the internet, etc. Note that just changing artwork on your computer won't affect the iPod until you sync.
If the artwork is correct on your computer iTunes then delete all the music on your iPod by syncing with iTunes with no music selected. Then reload the music onto your iPod by again syncing with iTunes with all the music you want selected. -

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(Assuming that the QuickTime and Safari messages were also citing bonjour64.msi, you should also then be good to go with those installs too.) -

I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.
