HT4972 fake vs original ipad

how i want to know if my ipad 2 is original and not clone or fake ipad?

Put the last 3 or 4 characters of your iPad's serial number at this site
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
If it shows up it's real.
If yoiu bought it from a shady character selling from the trunk of his car in an ally for an unbelievable price,
it could be stolen.
Where did you buy/get your iPad?

I have the original iPad and need to be lead through updating to iOS 5

Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
When you have iOS 5+ installed you will get a Settings > General > Software Update option allowing you to do future updates directly on the iPad.

I have the original iPad with v3.2.1 and have never upgraded.  How can I upgrade to the latest iOSfor the original iPad?

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device. It will be updated to the latest compatible version.
The third generation iPod touch and original iPad can’t be updated past 5.1.1.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

  • How do you update your original iPad ios

Hi,  I have the original iPad.  For the life of me , i I can't update the iOS.  I was told i can download the  update. But I am unable to do it.  Please help.

What version is on there now? If you have iOS 5.1.1, that's the last version an iPad 1 can run. If you have iOS 4.x or earlier, see the section titled "Update your device using iTunes" in this support article:

  • How can I get an HD movie from iTunes store to play on original iPad

I recently purchased an HD movie--Brave--from the iTunes store.  I'm trying to play on my original iPad (iPad 1), but iTunes refuses to synch it because it says it is an unsupported format.  The movie is in 1080p format.  I typically get both HD and SD formats when I purchase movies, but iTunes no longer downloads the SD version automatically when I purchase the HD version.  I attempted to get an SD version from the store, but it said I already purchased the movie and instructed me to check the downloads.  There is no SD download pending and a check for new downloads was fruitless.
Can someone confirm that the original iPad is unable to play HD video?  I imagine it is the 1080p that's the problem.  Can anyone confirm that 720p would work?  Is there no longer a means to get both HD and SD when purchasing a movie from the iTunes store?  If there is, how?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jamie

You can get the SD or 720p version by:
    Open iTunes 11
Click iTunes in menu bar > select Preferences...
    Click on the Store tab
Change When downloading High Definition videos, prefer dropdown to 720p > click OK
Click on the iTunes Store button
    Click Purchased link
    Click Movies tab
You should now see a download icon for the movies you already have 1080p version of.
Click on this download icon to download the 720p version.
This will put a 720p version in the same folder on your hard drive as the 1080p version.  If you have iTunes setup to play 1080p when available, it will play the 1080p version.  When you connect your iPad 1, it will sync the 720p version.
Don't forget to change your preference back to 1080p so you can continue to get the higher quality version.

  • How to upgrade to iOS 8.1 on original iPAD

I have an original iPad.  The current OS is 5.1.1.  When I try to upgrade using the latest version of iTunes on my PC using the "Check for Update" function, it says that "the version of the iPad software (5.1.1) is the current version" and doesn't offer me to upgrade.  Is it possible to ugrade to iOS 8 on the original iPad?

No, it is only possible to upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 on the original iPad.

  • Why is 'Sherlock' TV show not showing up on my original ipad?

We have a large shared iTunes library with LOTS of movies, tv shows and music. The library is stored on an 8TB Promise Pegasis RAID drive linked to a mac mini. We aos have three 1 iPhone 4, 2 iPhone 5, 2 original iPads, 1 iPad (3rd generation) and 2 Apple TV's, an old G4 Flat Panel, a 24" imac, a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air all of which use Home Sharing. The problem I'm having is in NOT being able to see certain purchased TV shows (in this case, the show 'Sherlock' - both seasons and all but one episode of 'Game of Thrones') on the original iPads via Home Sharing. The shows appear on every other device but the original iPads. Also, the entire season of Game of Thrones appears on all other devices...but on the original iPads only the first episode appears...with a link to purchase other episodes - However, I have purchased the entire season...and ALL the episodes are available for viewing on every other device. I should point out that these shows were not ripped from DVDs but purchased from the iTunes store. Each of these devices is linked to the exact same iTunes account for purposes of Home Sharing. I assume it must be something related to both of these iPads running iOS 5.1, but I can't imagine what that issue would be. I had originally thought that it may be due to the fact that 'Sherlock' is in 1080p, but most of the movies are also HD...as is the one episode of 'Game of Thrones' that does appear via Home Sharing, so I ruled that out.
I realize this is not an earth-shattering issue, but it is a bit of a bother. Any ideas, suggestions or possible fixes would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've the same problem as the original post. I already enabled photo stream for iCloud on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad Air. Both are running iOS 7. I didn't have this problem between my iPhone 4 and my old iPad.  Thanks for any advice.

  • I have an original iPad and when I try to login on Yahoo through Safari it will not log me in. What could be the problem?

My original iPad will not log me into Yahoo through Safari. It's been this way for one week. I can access Yahoo on my PC with no problem so I think the problem is my iPad or Safari.

Your description of the behavior  of the ipad1 during a login attempt is more precise than mine, it is the exactly as my ipad1 reacts and supposedly as all other iPad1 will behave. This could be solved either by apple with an update of the safari browser for ipad1. I do not think that apple will do that. Also yahoo could undo the change of the login procedure which they recently made and which is incompatible do the ipad1s safari browser. They hardly will do that either if not be urged by lots of ipad1 users.
!!!!  SO SEND COMPLAINS TO YAHOO, PHONE THE HOTLINE ETC  !!!!!!
Otherwise you have to buy a new iPad or to change the email provider.

  • Trying to upgrade OS on an original iPad.  Screen is locked showing iTunes/USB cable icons.  Connected to iTunes and get an error 3014 message stating it cannot be restored and screen is locked in this mode.  How do I unlock?

Trying to update OS on an original iPad.  Connected to iTunes -- screen is locked showing iTunes/USB cable icons.  iTunes says must restore to default settings, but receive an error message 3014 that this cannot be done.  Cannot unlock screen to use nor can I update or restore, so iPad not usable at this point.  How can I unlock screen so I can use iPad, how do I fix this error?  Latest version of iTunes is downloaded and I've followed all the instructions in regard to Windows.  I'd at least like to unlock iPad so it can be used.  Thanks.

bummer. *Note that if you are actually running iOS 5.1.1, that's it for the iPad 1st Gen.

  • Have original ipad which won't backup, itunes says there is an error but won't give me any details

I have an original ipad which I struggled to update the OS software from 3.2 to 5.0 but eventually managed to do this manually.  HOwever, now there is an update to 5.1 which when I try to do it via wifi, it just says there is an error.  Tried to do it through iTunes but it starts to back up and then tells me there is an error but does not give details, when I click on the further information button it doesn't do anything.  Because it won't back up, it won't let me install the update.  It won't back up either to the computer or to iCloud, I have tried both.  I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas.
Also, in case anyone can help - several of my apps won't work on my ipad - logo quiz, ibooks (worked fine until I updated software system) and a few others - just flicks on briefly and then throws me out.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I bought  an iPad 3 yesterday; this is an upgrade from the original iPad. I was told that migrating the data would be simple. My desktop is a PC with Windows 7 Professional. I can't find a way to back up my old iPad so I can restore the data to the new

I bought an update to the original iPad an iPad 3. In was told that migrating the data from my old iPad to the new will be a snap. Alas, it isn't. My desktop is a new high end PC that came preloaded with Windows 7 Professional and I have had nothing but problems. My earlier computer was XP and everything, including my Apple interface, in particular iTunes, worked without problems. When I was trying to back up my data from the old iPad to my desktop, the only thing it would do is synchronize, then got an error message to download the latest iTunes, which I did but it still did not work. I have a lot of music both purchased through iTunes and a lot of others which were CDs that were copied to the desktop. I also have a lot of books through Kindle and other books in iBooks and audio books from other sources, plus two iPods I want to sync. I need some advise on where I find the back up feature in iTunes so I can copy all the data on from my old iPad. Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.
