HT4972 How about instructions on how to "erase" my device so I can upgrade

Trying to update operating system on Ipad2. Please help!

You don't need to erase your iPad prior to upgrading to the most current version of iOS, which by the way will be iOS 7.1;  you cannot upgrade to iOS 5 or any other version. Just follow the instructions as provided in the support article from which you came.
Regards.

I did not thoroughly read the email that I had been sent from Apple following the upgrade to IOS7,  that I thought was instructing me to carry out certain instructions, including "Erase your device".  In fact it was only advising me details of what is now possible.

    It has error number -50.

If it only happens with this project, it's probable some media files have become corrupted.
Those may be render files. Make sure background rendering is off. Select the project in the browser and from the file menu, choose Delete Project Render Files; choose All from the dialog. Without rendering, try exporting.
If that doesn't work, use an optimized version of your DSLR clips. (Right click on the clips in the browser and hit Transcode.)

  • How to find out the date I can upgrade

I'm on a family plan and I don't have access to my dad's account, and he's the account owner. I want to upgrade to an iPhone so I'm looking to know when I can upgrade and how much it'll cost, but I can't find any of this on the My Verizon page. There's a "check upgrade availability" on the iPhone page but it says something about Verizon being unavailable and to try later, but I've been trying since yesterday. I can't find out how to look at my plan and all I need to know is when I can upgrade...this website is not being very helpful so far.

If you are not the account owner, I don't think that this information will be available to you. Just ask your father for the information.

  • HT1349 How do I go about adding IOS 5.0 to my iPad so I can upgrade Pages.

How do I upgrade Pages?  It says I need to have IOS 5.0.  How do I go about doing that?

First of all you must be running iTunes 10.5 on your computer if you want to update to iOS 5.  The very latest version is 10.5.3 so if you are not running 10.5 download and install it.
Then connect your iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, click on the iPad name on the left under devices and then click on the Check for Update Button in the Summary pane of iTunes on the right.
ITunes should prompt you to update when the iPad is connected and iTunes is running, but you can click on the button to start the upgrade process to iOS 5 on your own if necessary.

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, as your tagline says that you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

If you can't spend it then you can try contacting iTunes Support and ask them if they can remove the balance from your account (these are user-to-user forums) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • HT4972 How do I erase my iPad then update to ios5

How do I erase my iPad then update to ios5 anyone pls, I was trying to update to ios5, and was ask to erase then update.

I think that maybe you misunderstood. iTunes will erase the device for you as part of the update process. You so not have to do it on your own.
This is copied from the Apple site about updating to iOS 5.
As part of the update and restore process, iTunes will (in order):
Back up key elements of your device, such as settings, Contacts, Calendars, Notes, and your Camera Roll1. iTunes will not, however, back up media content from your iOS device, such as music, apps, books, movies, and TV shows.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS software.
Restore your device from your most recent backup.
    Restart your device.
Sync back media content from your iTunes Library to your device2.
Read the summary in the upper left part of this web page. It is copied below.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
    Summary
To update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from iOS 4 to iOS 5 or later, you must erase and restore your device first, before completing the update.

  • HT4972 I have an Ipod touch version 4.2.1 and the instructions do not detail how to update to iOS 5. Can you help with me step by step instructions.

I have an Ipod touch version 4.2.1 and the instructions do not detail how to update to iOS 5. Can you help me with step by step instructions.

iOS 4.2.1 suggests that you may have 2nd generation Touch, which cannot be updated past iOS 4.2.1
Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353  for help in identifying your model. A quicker method may be to check the back casing. If your iPod has Model No.A 1288 etched into it, then it's a 2nd gen Touch.
Assuming that you are using the latest version of iTunes (today, that is 10.6.3), to check if your iPod can be updated, connect it to your iTunes and look on the Device/Summary pane. Select Check for Updates. If there is one, you will see a message telling you that and how to install it. However, if you see a message saying that your iPod is up-to-date, then it cannot be updated.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • How to erase folders listed in loop browser

I accidentally copied some samples/loops from my external drive into the loop browser that I don't want there. How do erase these files and samples and remove them from the list of everything available?

    John Alcock wrote:
What works for me is (1) first getting rid of all the files I don't want, (2) group the remainder in folders that I choose and name them so they make sense, (3) trash all the Apple Search index files, (4) drag and drop the newly created folders in to the loop browser for reindexing, choosing the option of 'leave in location' (or whatever it says) when asked.
    Hello,
I'm trying to follow your instructions, but when I drag the folder into the loop browser for reindexing, its not giving me any options, it just says "adding loops to the loop browser" and when its done, I do not have any folders in my loop browser. The loops seem to be added, but they are not in any hierarchy!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
