HT4972 How to save precious information?

I have been putting off updating the iOS on my iPhone 4 from 4.3.1 to iOS 5 or later. I have started several times using iTunes, but I always receive an alert saying that "update will delete all of the apps and media on your iPhone".  I do understand the process of "backing up" information onto iTunes prior to updating then moving "backed up" information back onto phone once update is completed.  If I "back up" elements from my phone using iTunes, prior to upgrading iOS, will it save information "inside" the apps?  Like messages/notes on notepad, dates/info written in my Calender, and MOST IMPORTANTLY  2 years worth of journal writing in my diary? If I loose contacts, music, recipes, etc they can be replaced.  2 years worth of writing in my journal can not.  I am unable to update many of my current apps because I don't have iOS 5.    Thanks in advance for any info, comments or suggestions.

Hello Debra,
I definitely understand your concern about what is contained in the backups.  I found a couple of resources that should help with clearing up the confusion about what is backed up.
The first article I found for you states the following:
Backed-up information includes purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books*; photos and video in the Camera Roll; device settings (for example, Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts); app data; Home screen and app organization; Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and more. Media files synced from your computer aren’t backed up, but can be restored by syncing with iTunes.
* Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backup of purchased TV shows occurs only in the United States. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
I also found another resource that lists information that is backed up more specifically.  You can find that information under the section titled "iTunes will back up the following information" in the following article:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
Best,

  • How to save VISA information into a configuration file

    Hi guys,
I've got a problem that i can't quite figure out and I'm sure someone else has done this but i have searched the forums and didn't find anything suitable myself.
I'm trying to save configuration files for my program and then reload them back in so that i can get the same state of the controls.  One of the controls I'd like to save into the configuration file is a VISA control.  has anyone figured out how to save this into configuration files?  I know that OpenG has a write variant to config but Id like to stay away from 3rd party stuff as much as possible.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get around this?
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The alternative to Write Keys, if you don't want a text file, is a BIN file. I do it this way when I don't want users poking around text file trying to change things, and/or for security. And it's fast.
The attached picture shows, in general, how to do it.

All of you app store purchases are backed up and saved for you in iCloud. You can download apps again at any time - for free - as long as you use the same Apple ID that you purchased them with.
You can also backup your iPad to iTunes and/or to iCloud in order to store your app data. You can transfer your purchases content into iTunes as well for safe keeping.

  • How to save copyright information into Gif files?

URGENT - can someone please help. i have photoshop cc and I need to know how to copyright my gif files

    c. is correct in that it's a little ambiguous what you're trying to achieve. Here are three ways:
Under US law your image is already copyrighted at the moment you create it, but you greatly improve your legal standing in court if you register the image with the US Copyright Office.
To add invisible copyright metadata inside an image, choose File > File Info in Photoshop, click the Description tab, and fill out Copyright Status and Copyright Notice. Then do what c. said in Save for Web to make sure it's included on export. However, while this works with most formats including JPG and PNG, I do not think it will work with a GIF. As far as I can tell, GIF doesn't support metadata. If you want better support for modern standards for non-photographic web graphics, use PNG instead of GIF.
To add a visible copyright watermark over the image, download the Adobe Watermark panel and install it.

  • How to edit pdf so that you can save entered information in Reader?

I have Acrobat Professional 8 at home as part of Adobe CS3 but we only have acrobat reader at work.
My supervisor has an evaluation form that is setup in pdf format and has fillable information boxes such as name, job description, etc. However, you can not save the information you enter into the document. I need to know how I can alter the pdf in Pro 8 so that the information can be saved with just reader.
This is probably a simple one to those who use these programs a lot, but unfortunately I don't so I am kind of behind the learning curve here.
    Any help????

When you are talking a business form, the application may be different than the original post. I would suggest you read part 15 of the AA9 EULA (license agreement) that is available from adobe.com. This is where the 500 use limit might apply.
Before you purchace AA9 for the feature, it would be wise to be sure your application would be in line with the EULA, or you will be real ticked at buying AA9 for the feature and then not being able to use it legally. You may want to indicate why you want folks to be able to save the form. If it will not be submitted, then I think you will be fine with AA9.
If it is for submission, then you may have a problem with the 500 use limit. However, saving is not needed to submit the data! The data can simply be imported to the PDF and so you don't need it in that form.

  • Buying a new Mac and try to save all information from iPhone in new iTunes, is it possible? how?

Buying a new Mac and try to save all information from iPhone in new iTunes, is it possible? how?

The easiest thing to do is transfer the library from the old computer to the new one.  Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to choose a library, then select the copied iTunes folder.  If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
If you do not have access to the old library (and you always should in the form of a backup you regularly make of your computer and store on a drive in a safe place) and this phone has been synced with a different library you can backup certain items, then erase the phone and restore those items.  This will not include media not purchased from the iTunes Store.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 - "Learn how to back up and restore the content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes."
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

I mean in a persistent storage like files or database?

  • I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)

"I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)"
That was all I could put in the initial "box."  Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.
    Proceeding ...
After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.
    Help ...
    Running 8.0 on 5S
    Thanks!

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I have formatted my iPhone at least a dozen times, Apple and an Apple retailer have formatted my hard drive not to mention the numerous times I have formatted it but the hackers keep getting on my devices. Im formatting my lap top at this very second because during the course of the night I left the ethernet cable plugged into it and they locked me out of my c: drive, and configured the system so I can't download any updates from Microsoft, overtime I type in www.microsoft.com it changes to ww38.microsoft.com which takes me to a blank page. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

  • How to save pdf file in database

    Dear All,
my application is forms 6i and database is 8i,requirement is that how to save pdf file in database and users can view through forms

I'll apologize up front for the length of this post. I have a few database procedures I created that write a file to a BLOB column in a table as well as retrieve the BLOB from the column after it stored there. I have successfully stored many different types of binary file to the database using these procedures - including PDF files. I have not used these procedures in a Form so I can confirm that they will work, but theoretically they should work. I'm including the code for each procedure in this posting - hence the apology for the long post! :-)
Also, since these procedures reside on the database you will need to use Forms TEXT_IO built-in package to write your file to the server before you can use these procedures to store and retrieve the file from the database.
These procedures reads and writes a binary file to a table called "LOB_TABLE." You will need to modify the procedure to write to your table.

  • How can I get information off my old hard drive?

Recently my old mac book died. The genius bar said that it would be 750$ for repairs and since it had been 5 years since I'd gotten the laptop, I opted to buy a new MacBook Pro. The problem is I have stuff on my old hard drive that I want to keep (mostly the pictures from my iphoto), so the genius bar took the hard drive out for me. So now I have the hard drive from my old laptop and I'm not sure how I get the information off of it.
I tried to look it up online and saw something about a hard drive caddy? I have no idea what these are/ how they work. Do you just put the hard drive inside of it and connect it with a usb chord? Are all of these compatible with the macbook hard drives and will it work with my new macbook pro?
Or could/should I just go to best buy or something to see if they could put it on a CD for me?
What are my options/how can I go about getting the information from the old hard drive onto my new laptop?
    Thanks!

You want to buy an enclosure that will accept a 2.5" IDE hard drive(I think that is what your computer probably had). Once you put the old hard drive into the enclosure, just connect it to your new computer using USB or Firewire(if the enclosure has Firewire ports) and copy your stuff over.
Now is a GOOD time for you to buy another external hard drive and back up your new computer to it often. This will save you the trouble of recovering your information in the future. It is always recommended that you back up your important files to several places.
