HT4972 I have never updated/pluged my iphone 4 into my computer, i am trying to now; however, cannot figure it out. I cannot purchase apps, or download them because they require ios5 or something. iIalso do not have a button that says "software update."

I have never pluged/synced/updated my iphone 4, and need help badly. There is not a button under settings, then general that says "update," and i don't know how to get it there. I have tried pluging my phone into my computer, but get lost there too. My computer askes if i want apple to make changes to my computer, i click "yes," and then i cant find the device anywhere. I look under itunes, then file, then devices, and it does not pick up on the iphone. I am lost, and tech defecent. I am 19 and worse then 90 year olds with technology. Help please! I cannot update any of my aps because of this, so a little bit of a problem. Thanks!

I would restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod on your computer and start over. It appears the iPod is associated with another account.  Any media that came with the iPod does not belong to you and di not transfer with the iPod hardware.

  • HT4623 I don't have a button that says 'system update' how do I download the latest software?

I dint have a button that says system update so I am still using the software from when iPad 2 first came out. Can anyone help?

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
Your iPad will be updated to iOS 6.1 (which is the only version that is 'signed' by Apple for it).

Sorry, there is no upgrade for your model based on what you've posted. See below:
See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

    Hi Trishw,
At the top of the iTunes Store window, you will see who is logged into iTunes. I'm guessing from your description, that it is your husband. If it is, click on the name to display the dropdown, log him out and sign yourself back in:\

Try a powered external USB hub.  It uses a 120V AC wall jack to power USB devices, and the Mac only needs to provide *just enough* to comminucate.  Best Buy, Target, Walmart, ... about $20.

I have an ipad2 that has ios4.3.5 that I'm trying to update to iOS 6. If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • I have a update waiting and the box that says software update trys to connect to the update server but it can't do you have any help for me cause its saying i need this update real bad

firefox says i have a update waiting but i try to install it and the software update box pops up and says (connecting to the update server) but thats as far as it goes can you please help me solve this issure

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    * It may not be necessary to create a new profile, so first try if it works with your current profile and if not then create a new profile.
You do not need to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I've tried 3 times to upgrade my operating system. Each time the upgrade is downloaded, but when it starts to install the upgrades, it stops and says the upgrades were not installed because an error occurred. No mention of what the error was.
My computer is a MacBoor Air running OSX 10.74.

    Hi ..
If you are trying to upgrade to Mavericks, make sure your Mac meets the requirements >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
And make sure there's enough free storage space. Mavericks requires about 8GB's.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
If it's not a storage space issue ...
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, MacKeeper, and anti virus software can prevent apps from downloading including OS X upgrades
Disable anti virus software if installed
Check the firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.
