HT4972 in terms of performance: do you recommend to update iPhone 3gs to os5 or os6?

in terms of performance: do you recommend to update iPhone 3gs to os5 or os6?

If you update your 3GS, iOS 6.0.1 will be installed on it...you don't have a choice, as that is the only iOS currently signed by Apple, that is available for your phone.

If it is a 3GS you cannot update it to 4.3, you can only update it to iOS 6. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer, connect the phone, click on its name on the left, then click the "Check for Updates" button on the right.
If you can't connect to your home WiFi try rebooting the router.

  • What do you do if your iphone 3gs displays a tether picture to itunes and won't change? After going throught the manual i came up with a error message1002

What do you do if your iphone 3gs displays a thether picture to itunes? It won't change and after going to the manual and following directions, I find it is an error 1002. What does this mean?

Error 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue.

  • HT4972 is it possible to update iphone 3gs to iOS 5 or more?

I've been told that it's possible to get the most upto date iOS on my iphone 3gs, but everytime I try to update it only goes to 4.1, I'm beginning to wonder if it is even possible or if there is another way of doing it that I haven't yet tried.  I have tried restoring it and that hasn't worked.  Any other ways?

The 3Gs will run iOS 6.1.3. You need to install the current version of iTunes on your computer to perform the update.
The 3G, on the other hand, won't run anything higher than 4.2.1.

  • How do you determine what your iPhone 3GS is locked to?

I have an iPhone 3gs and I don't want to unlock it or jailbreak it.  How do I figure how which carrier it is locked to?  I know it's locked to a Canadian cell phone company and I tried Fido, Telus, Bell and Rogers (all friends SIMs) without hooking up to iTunes because it gave me the ability to activiate wirelessly through WiFi.  But none of these SIM cards worked.
Any ideas of how I can figure out what it's locked to or how I can activiate it without having to try every SIM card under the sun?

No offence to you Julian - but if I could go back to the original retailer / seller and ask them the question, I wouldn't be posting it here .
I bought the phone from someone who had it software unlocked / jailbroken a long time ago and I just updated the phone.  I don't want to unlock it or jailbreak it, I just want to know how to activate it with the original carrier.
I just need to figure out if there is a way to determine who that carrier is...

  • Can you copy contacts from iphone 3gs to a pc?

I want to copy my contacts from iphone 3gs to pc so i can copy them back to my new iphone 4 is that possible?

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer. With XP, this can be with Outlook 2003, 2007, or with 2010 if 2010 is supported with XP along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Outlook Express called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone or on any cell phone alone for this data which can be lost or stolen.
If you don't have Outlook available and you don't use Windows Contacts - Windows Contacts is empty, before the first sync for this data, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. Syncing contacts with Windows Contacts is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

  • How do you transfer music from iPhone 3Gs to Windows PC.

Old windows pc crashed. Do not have back up. How do I tranfers music from iPhone 3Gs 16M to new windows PC. 99% of music was ripped CD's.

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Using iTunes 11 - How do you download and update iPhone Apps?

Now that Apple has quaintly updated iTunes to version 11, I can no longer find the Applications listing on the LHS column which allowed easy updating of Applications prior to an iPhone synch. Gone through all of the menus and tabs but nada. I'm needing to do this as iOS 6 has a bad habit of "hanging" application uploads and a MUCH SLOWER wireless connection ... not to mention crappy install times. Any suggestions short of using Android?! I'm also finding it interesting that Apple hasn't updated their search engines or databases to understand/accept iTunes11 OR iOS6. I hate to say it's the beginning signs of a crumbling infrastructure. Something Steve would never accept! ... and HEY ... I OWN a chunk of Apple Stock!!

OK ... so after MUCH head scratching I've learned the following:
To get to the Apps section of your iPhone:
    (1) Synch your iPhone (iPod)
    (2) From the top Left hand drop down menu in the iTunes window, select "Apps"
    (3) After your Apps all show in the window, go to the bottom Right hand side and you'll find the number of "Updates Available". Click on that radio button and it'll download the updated apps.
    (4) iTunes will bring up your "My App Updates" window
    (5) Select the "Download All Free Updates" symbol and download
    (6) Select the "Done" radio button
The App Store will then load onto your next window.
    (7) You can then select the "library" radio button in the top Right hand side and you'll see your "iPhone/iPod" radio button appear on the top Right hand side of your next window. Select and synch!
Sort of a convoluted method ... but it works!!

  • Would you recommend buying the iphone?

I need a pda of sorts for work and it seems that there are many issues with ical. Is it just new and needs to work the kinks out or should you wait for the next generation to come out?

When you say, Nokia hasn't got anything on the iPhone, this is completely understandable because of the lack of quality networks here in the US. I am quite sure you never had a phone with HSDPA, or a phone with a 5 megapixel camera, multi-thread SMS, etc.... It is hard to miss or acknowledge what you never had. To give you an example of what you have missed, please find the spec sheet of the Nokia N82 below. When compared side by side the iPhone is the clear loser.
N82 has 5 Megapixels camera with autofocus, HSPDA, WLAN and GPS with free maps.
N82 is the second model from Nokia with a 5 megapixles camera and auto-focus. The Nokia N95 is still located at the top of the list when we talk about features but N82 is not far behind. N82 looks very much like the N95 specification wise. N82 has the more usual block form factor compared to the N95 slider. Current N95 retail price is 570 Euro. Expected retail price for the N82 is 450 Euro. Both models have the same display resolution of 240x320 pixels, built in GPS, the same operating frequencies, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, video recording etc. Seems like Nokia is phasing out the N95 in favour to the N82 and the N95 8GB version. We can not see any good reason why anyone would go for the more expensive N95 now that the N82 is announced.

  • Do you recommend to buy iPhone 4S?

    hello,
For two months I'm looking for a phone and I really want to buy one in the next few days.
I am debating whether to buy iPhone 4S or wait to come out the iPhone 5.
I am afraid to buy it because I heard the battery problems were not solved yet (I hope that the next iOS 6 update will fix that issue).
What do you think? Should I buy or wait to the next generation iPhone?
    thanks.

How bad do you need the phone?
If you go to any smartphone forum, the number one topic
is usually bad battery life.  When I was deciding to get a
smartphone, I went to all the forums to see what issues
there were with the different phones for how I would use
it, and usually battery life was an overwhelming favorite
gripe.  In a few cases there may be some bad batteries
or some other hardware malfunction, but for the most part,
battery life depends on how it is used.
Personally, I get the battery life I expect depending on how
I am using it at the time.

  • What product do you recommend to connect iphone/itouch to car that has an 'aux' option?  What is the? cord, and where can I buy it

Looking for best cord option for connecting and utilizing iphone and itouch to use in car that has an 'aux' port....thoughts, suggestions?
    Thanks

    depend on the connector
aux can be jack connector or RCA or various other connector types
aux really just mean analog audio in the non amped form that your dvdplayer and cdplayer and old stereo used
so buy a cable with a 3.5mm mini jack connector in one end and whatever connector your input device use or build the cable yourself

  • How do you send contacts from iphone 3gs (ios 5.0.1) via bluetooth to my car?

My JVC KW-NT30HD is capable of importing my contacts, and in fact has a set procedure. When I get to the step that involves the phone it says see phone instructions. Other than marking share contacts under blue tooth, is there a way to push it to the stereo?

This is under the control of the car system, it must request the contacts from the phone. Normally car systems (and good BT headsets) have a function for doing this. You will need to pair the car with the iPhone first, if you haven't already.
