HT4972 iTunes times out when trying to download iOS 5.1

iTunes times out when trying to download iOS 5.1 - can anyone help? Can I download via a browser and then install that way?
Looking here http://osxdaily.com/2012/03/07/ios-5-1-download/ - I can download an ipsw file - how would I get that to install on my iPhone4?
Help!
Cheers
P.S. My iPhone4 is on Orange UK - is this a GSM one? or CDMA???

Hi,
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Now restart your iPad.  Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that didn't help, you need to post in the iPad forum here.

  • Time out when trying to open Word/Excel document from portal

Several of our users have been timing out when trying to open/download documents stored in our portal.
The error message is "Download failed. Connection to server was reset."
Is there some obvious setting that I am missing here?
It happens with things as small as 200K - Word and Excel documents.
    thanks!!

    Hi Gary Jiang,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
This forum is for developers discussing issues about

Based on the description, it seems that you got an issue when you deploy the code sample. If I understood clearly, I suggest that you contact the author of the code sample from the "Q and A" tab.
Also if you have the question about WOPI, I suggest that you get more effective response from

  • Is anyone else getting a "connection failed" error when trying to download iOS 5.1?

I am trying to download iOS 5.1 and I get the same error on all of my devices: check network connection. Does anyone have a fix? I can access the Internet, download music, movies, and apps, and I am running iOS 5 but it will not let me download the update.

There must be something with loation, a lot of complaints since the release, but I downloaded and installed on an iPad in 12 minutes and an iPhone 4 in 6 minutes this afternoon on the East Coast of the US.

  • ITunes Connect times out when trying to deploy an iOS app

Ive been trying for the past hour to submit an app via xCode and as it trys to log into iTunes Connect I get a time out error.  Is anyone else realizing this issue?  Does anyone know whats happening and when we can expect it to be back up?

Probably a temporary outage on the backend. Try again and it will probably work.

  • New to I-pad and keep getting timed out when trying to download apps any help?

Any help when constantly getting timed out message on trying to download apps by using security questions?

I had the same problem! I don't know what caused it, possibly slow Internet but I suppose my antivirus or other software could have affected it. Maybe it's an iTunes problem.
After restarting the download at least 5 times in iTunes after it timed out, I found this website. I didn't know this before, but you can download the update in your browser and then apply it to your iPhone in iTunes once it finishes. I used Firefox 4 and it downloaded without timing out once. All you have to do is hold down Shift and then click on Update in iTunes and it will prompt you to select the update that you downloaded and it will apply it.
Try this and let me know how it works!

  • Session time out when trying to redeem card!?

hi, I have tried to redeem my card 5 times now, and itunes keeps saying "session time out your sessions has timed out please try this operation from beginning" I am dualbooting windows xp and windows 7, I have used both OS's and still the same thing. when I try to redeem it on my ipod touch it tells me I have the wrong code. I do not have a mac availble im on vecation and only brought the PC laptop.
if it matters im using the itunes canadian store.

    This worked for me:
Establish in her router a WEP 128 bit data encryption password. (Post back if you need help on this). Apparently macs have slightly different Airport drivers and work better with WEP 128 bit than with WPA although this doesn't explain why my friend's MB had your mum-in-law's problem but could connect to my WPA protected network - go figure! Anyway, try a different password encryption and see if that works.
As for not sending mail, check with your Mail Server what the SMTP setting should be.

  • HP Mini Netbook times out when trying to update to iOS 5

Why does my HP Mini Netbook time out after one or two hours when I'm trying to upgrade to iOS 5 on my 3G iphone? Is the upgrade too large for my phone?

Disable any firewall and antivirus software while you download and update.

  • HT204406 iTunes error 11111 when trying to download matched tracks.

When attempting to download matched music (5 tracks out of 7000+), I receive an error indicating the track is not available for download. I  have checked the store and the track is available in teh store and I have managed to download on a a different PC. I want to download to my master library to preserve song counts and playlists.
    Has anyone solved this issue?

I found a solution that worked for me in some other posts, delete the song from the cloud, then delete the original from iTunes but select "keep file", update imatch in the store menue, then add the old song.  This fixed most of my errors the first time but I had to re-do this on a few songs a second time.  Really frustrating.  Hopefully now that it all appears to work there will not be any other ssues.

  • Itunes timing out when trying to connect to store

So I'm about to recieve an iphone in an hour or two and i'm a little upset because for the past hour i've tried to connect to the itunes store and everytime but once it has timed out. my internet is working fine and i can download my podcasts and play music fine. any troubleshooting i can do so i can connect and set up my new cell subscription?

I was reading another thread and this worked perfectly for me. I kept trying to get this computer authorized and it would time out everytime. All I did was go up to the store menu, sign out, and sign back in. Nothing timed out, I was able authorize and I am back to listening to music again.

  • Ichat times out when trying to sign in

I am in Europe for the year and haven't been able to get my ichat to sign on in my new apartment. I am not good with computers and do not know where to begin with trouble shooting this problem. I have done a lot of reading on sign in problems, but I don't know enough about my internet/computer configuration to make changes. iChat does work when I try to sign on at a different location (university), so I don't think the problem is with the program itself.
    This is what I know:
I am using built-in Ethernet TCP/IP that I have configured manually. Other than iChat (or my apple mail which also times out before succesfully signing in), my internet works without problems. Following iChat help, I tried to ports on my firewall, but the firewall wasn't activated.
Any help you can give me is most appreciated. This is really driving me crazy.
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Thank you so much for your help! Changing the port on iChat did the trick. Perhaps that is the problem that is happening with my mail as well. You don't happen to have another suggestion about which port I should use to correct that problem, do you? Thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated!
    Best!

  • IPad times out when trying to play shared video (solution)

Problem description: This problem has plagued me for months.  I have a series of home videos and purchased movies on my Mac that I had home shared with my other Apple devices using iTunes 11.  Sometimes everything would work smoothly, but some other times one or more devices would refuse to play videos.  Over the last few days, both my iPads had refused to play any home shared videos ("The request timed out." would pop after a long wait).  On the other hand, my Apple TV and iPhone would play these nicely.  Also, all music shared via home sharing would play on all devices.
Cause identified: I am using a BELKIN Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router.  I had it set up with the same SSID for both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands in the hope that my streaming devices would automatically choose the highest performing configuration.  It turns out they did not.  While troubleshooting the time out issue, I configured the two wireless bands with separate SSID's which allowed me to observe that both iPads had trouble using the 5 GHz band (N mode only).  I could not even get them to validate the pre-shared keys on this band.  When switching all devices to the 2.4 GHz band (B+G+N mode), boom! everything started working nicely!  The iPads seem to have an issue with the N WiFi mode on the 5 GHz band.
Solution: If using a dual band wireless router, try each band separately with unique SSID's/pre-shared keys.  Choose the best performing one, and make sure your devices "forget" any wireless configuration that seems to be causing trouble so they won't later on decide to switch back to them.

You need to set the band on the wireless router.  Depending on your router model, do that either from your browser, or using the software that came on a CD-ROM.
To use your browser, you need to enter the router's IP address, usually http://192.168.2.1/.   This may me different for different router manufacturers.  Check the WiFi settings once you are able to log on.  The browser-based interface may require an admin password.  In most cases the default password is blank, but, again, different manufacturers use different defaults.  It is best to use a computer that is hard wired to the router using an ethernet cable.  That way the wireless changes will not affect your connection to the router.
Once the band is set in the router, your iPad or AppleTV should be able to detect your wireless network.  Once you change the band, the devices may ask you for your wireless password again.
