If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

TS1702 The app "Dictionary+" was not installed on the iPhone "iPhone John" because an Unknown error occurred (0xE800002D). I will not download the updates to the laptop to have apps that work stored there. How do I reinstall iOS 5.1.1??

I do not update apps through my laptop I store the apps that actually have been tested and work on the laptop and test updated apps on the iPhone. After updating the iPhone to iOS 6.0.1 iTunes will not install the apps from iTunes on my laptop to my iPhone without updating the apps online. This is not going to happen from my end and I do not like having control of what MY Laptop and MY iPhone can do seperately forced to be as one. That should be an option of choice not a demand of service.
If anyone has an option like how to reinstall iOS 5.1.1 back onto my 3GS I would love to hear it.

I really do not understand why you seem so defensive about updating iTunes. Update iTunes on the computer, then sync the device, if that's what you want.
If that's not what you want, other options include updating apps directly on the device via Wi-Fi or 3G or living with it as is.

I have tried TONS of times to update my iTunes to 10.2. Now I've purchased an iPhone which I cannot activate because my iTunes is not updated. It downloads almost all the way, then I see an error message. It tells me that if I keep seeing that error message I should try going to tools, then hitting download only. I've tried this. Still get the error message. Ideas?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Will not download the update for 11.1

Tried to update my itunes so that I could download music to my new iphone 5c. I'm using a laptop with windows 7 64 bit and I tried downloading it with my browser Interner Explorer 8 and then tried Mozilla Firefox, I got the same results. It would seem like it was thinking and taking forever then the page would time out. So then I uninstalled itunes completely and tried to download the new version, but when I did this the page immediately went to the "Thank you for downloading" page as if it was done. Has anyone else had a similar problem and perhaps a solution? I would like to be able get I tunes back up and running on my laptop somehow so that I can just sit back and enjoy my music on my new phone.

When an employee is no longer with the company and their iPad is still linked to their iTunes account, how can we unlink it when we cannot contact the employee?

I am the IT support for a big company and we use a lot of iPad's. The one problem we are running into is when an employee leaves the company and their i Pad is still link, we need to use this iPad for another employe but we are unable to wipe it and start from factory cause it wants us to log into their itunes account. If they used their work email to set up their iTunes account this is not an issue as we can access their work email. But if they use their personal email and we do not have a way to contact them then this becomes a big issue. Is there any work around with this at all?

HT203180 I recently downloaded the simpsons in hd. After downloading it will not synch the shows with my ipad, touch or ipod. Any ideas on how to synch the shows? I have previously downloaded show and had no issues.

No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.

You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

I bought the metallica collection and my ipod will not download the songs,it just stops and go back to the home screen.

PS - I added an iphone5 which is whay these upgrades happened so this synching to the ipod error is since the iphone began synching.

I just learn in some post that the most common lapses in syncing is not checking if "sync music" in music section of the ipod is ticked. So double check if it is. Cheers!
