HT4972 Trying to update iPhone 3GS to 5.1.1 iTunes has recognised the update, but my phone is still stuck in the restore stage at the 'Connect to iTunes' screen. Any advice?
Updated my iPhone 3GS (recent phone - xmas this year), to 5.1.1 when iTunes suggested it. Restored phone under advice from prompts, iTunes has recognised my phone to have updated, but the phone itself is still stuck on the 'Connect to iTunes' screen in the restore phase. Very frustrating. Any advice?

You can simply login to iCloud: https://www.icloud.com and then go to Find My iPhone...but if the iPhone is turned off or restored to factory settings it won't show up.

I tried to update to newest version via pc. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.
oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

it worked in US with a sprint sim card. i am very sure that it wasnt jailbroken. then how this happened. plz explain me what i should do
A: There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone 3Gs in the United States. ALL iPhone 3Gs's sold in the US are locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones, therefore it is not legitimately unlocked.
B: Sprint is a CDMA network as others have mentioned. They do NOT use SIM cards. The iPhone 3Gs will NEVER work on Sprint. Ever. It's not physically possible.
Either your Uncle misunderstood or he was mislead. Send it back and tell him to get his money back. Buy an iPhone in India from a supported carrier. -
So my Music app wasn't opening and I heard that if you restore your phone it'll work again but then my phone got stuck in recovery mode sinc elast night and I'm thinking of going to the apple store but first I'd like to see if I can still get help out here on the internet.

If an iPhone 3G, it can't be updated beyond iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for that model iPhone. -

If you update your 3GS, iOS 6.0.1 will be installed on it...you don't have a choice, as that is the only iOS currently signed by Apple, that is available for your phone.

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
Please can anybody help.

yes there is a sign on the top of the screen that shows phone is LOCKED....may be that is why the phone didn't recognizing the sim...i think first i need to unlock it again then hopefully phone wil start working again ..but i dont know HOW TO UNLOCK ???...need help from u guys with this .

I have error code -43 when trying to upgrade iPhone 3GS running v4.3 to version 5 or above. This error occurs whilst trying to back up phone during upgrade process. 2GB of free memory on phone. Can anyone help?
Well I spoke too soon.
The update was successful, but now I cannot connect to the 3GS data network.
Cannot get email and cannot open a page in Safari.

Email and internet work fine on WiFi.........no data using 3GS network.
Looks like I will have to revert back to old OS. -
I am unable to complete setup after updating iphone 3GS to IOS 6.16.
I have been using an iPhone 3GS in an art gallery for processing credit cards via WIFI. I am not using the phone on cellular and it has no SIM card. The other day I received a message about a "mandatory software update" so I proceeded to do the update. When I got back to the phone, it showed a screen that said IOS 6 and the "slide to set up" when I did that, it said I had to connect to iTunes. I was unable to connect to a computer and the device was not able to connect to the internet for WIFI. When I tried to connect to a computer and iTunes, the phone was not recognized by the computer. The phone is connected to the computer right now and is cycling between a black screen and the apple icon. I won't go anywhere else.
I have tried the two-button reset and it does not work.
It seems that the update has bricked the phone. Is there anything I can do to revive it?Oh ...
That makes it difficult. My new (working) phone is a 4S and the SIM card does not fit. The old SIM card is in the 3GS but as far as I know it was was deactivated.
But it seems that with other updates over the last couple of years this was not necessary and my partner went through the same update with her 3GS with no problems.
Should I go to my AT&T dealer and purchase a new SIM card? Is there still a new one available? -

well, first check whether you're connected to the blackberry network...

Check within the network bars on the phone whether it is showing you 3G, EDGE or GPRS in capital letters...!!
If not give a hard-reset to the phone (remove the battery put it back once)...
And if it shows in caps letters then try requesting for services again... how? on the phone desktop > within the search bar > type "Host Routing Table".... search results shows you as "options"... select that & select host routing table... afterwards, hit the blackberry menu button > select register...
