The final version for the 3G is 4.2.1. It cannot be updated beyond that. To update even to that you must have the latest version of iTunes (10.3.1) You don't say what type of computer you have, but if it is a Mac you must have OS X Leopard (10.5.x) or higher to install the latest iTunes.

I just updated my pages and now it won't load. This is on my iPad. The first version which has the latest version it can have 5.1 or something like that. I am trying to open a document and am worried that if I uninstall and reinstall I will lose all my documents
I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

According to the requirements it appears you may be able to run it if you don't have the 8GB version.
The 8GB version was actually a snazzed up second gen with newer iOS software.
If it doesn't see it, the hardware probably doesn't support it.
First make sure you've updated iTunes, then check it again, and if it doesn't show, it probably won't run on it due to the hardware being too slow to handle it.

I am having trouble transfering any media from my windows 7 pc to my iPad 3. Currently using the latest version of iTunes n my windows pc but still the media won't appear on my devicewhen being transferred..
The window would open and I would get the hourglass cursor suggesting something was happening, but the Apple home page (default from the install) would not load, nor would any other page I tried (google, yahoo, cnn).
Even though it's about a different application, I'd try the following document with that:
iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(Safari uses the same webkit engine to render web pages as iTunes uses to render the Store pages. So an issue that can cause the iTunes Store to blank can also cause a Safari for Windows application on the same PC to produce blank pages.) -
I can't upgrade my MAC os from 10.7.5 to the latest available .
Usual way of software update does not help.
Keeps saying you have the latest update .To get beyond 10.7.5, you must go to the App Store and purchase an upgrade.

My iPad mini is already on the latest version 8.1.2 and Sinc updating, Safari very often seems to cause a reboot when trying to open webpages. I've checked for updates and no others exists... Almost to the point of using a different device...
thanks for any help...It's happening to me with my Air. All this started when I foolishly installed iOS 8. It's actually worse on 8.1.2 for me. I'm about fed up with this c**p. Apple needs to stop adding "features", ie bugs, until they fix all this usability stuff. I have a lifetime of IT experience and I'd have fired anyone who released this slop.

It sounds like you may have a 2nd generation iPod Touch. If so, 4.2.1 is the highest iOS. Please note there was never a 2nd Generation 8gB version of the iPod Touch.

I have set up all the iCloud on my iPad and iPhone both are the latest version but they don't seem to sinc with each other does this take some time? I am connected to the Internet via wifi do I need to turn the mobile data to on on both maybe??

You need to turn the services you want to sync (calendars, contacts etc) on on both devices from settings > iCloud. -

Not the iPad - your computer must be running iTunes 10.7 in order to sync. It has nothing to do with iTunes on the iPad.

I downloaded a film from ITunes in HD and had problems, I upgraded to the latest version of ITunes and have then downloaded the film again in SD on my Windows 7 computer, but I still can't get the film to play, any idea's what to do next?

If you mean saving the project files; iCloud, Dropbox, Skydrive will do this.

Be sure it is really a 3rd gen. Some people with 2nd gens were told they were 3rd gens. Identifying iPod models or Look up specs by Serial Number. If it is a 2nd gen, then you can't upgrade.
IF IT REALLY IS A THIRD GEN iPod Touch, then you first need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to download iOS 5 because older versions of iTunes don't support and can't sync with iOS 5.
