Since you have indicated that you have a Macbook Air, additional RAM cannot be installed. Installing an OSX is not a cure for operating issues and is only required if there are third party applications that will not run on prior OSXs. If you want to install Yosemite, that is your decision. Current MBA's are configured with 4GB RAM so I would believe that your MBA would be compatible.
Note that you have posted in the Macbook PRO forum, but we will not hold that against you.

The version of Safari is directly related to the version of iOS that you have on the iPad - so if you have iOS 5.0.1 (Settings > General > About > Version) then you have the most up-to-date version. Safari on the iPad doesn't have its own version number as it does on a Mac or PC.

Well, as all intelligent people know, we can't trust Wikipedia completely.

I'm trying to use a browser supported by a cloud program-and the 10.5.8 doesn't do much that is current. It was suggested that safari 5.1.7 should work as well as an older version of firefox (3.1.16)...will either of these options work on this older mac (ppm)? thanks. If you are asking about the PowerMac in your profile (thus with a PPC processor), the highest versions are:
Safari --- 5.0.6 (requires OS10.5.8, which you have)
FireFox --- 3.6.27
Neither gets any updating for security issues.
Camino is a good Mac browser that is still updated yet runs (at least for now) both Intel and PowerPC Macs from OS 10.4.11 to OS current versions:

Camino has some things I wish Safari did, like selective allowance/denial of cookies and pop-ups. It's lean and doesn't use add-ons so is quite limber. If you apprecitate what tying a one-ton weight to the top of a race car does, you'll appreciate Camino. We use it on most of our PPC Macs running 10.4.11 and higher.

Have you tried to install latest update patch 11.0.09. Do you have any GPO's for Reader. Have you tried to disable and checked again.

I recently upgraded a macbook to 10.7.4. The na transfered some files via Migration Assistant. Now Safari won't run. I tried reinstalling i0.7.4 but it didn't help. The version of Safari on the macbook now is 5.1.7. Is this correct and if not where can I get the right one? I'ts not available on Apple.com except as part of the 1-.7.4 upgrade and I tried that. If it's not the version why is Safari crashing and how can I fix it? Thanks very much.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now Safari won't work. What version of Safari do I need?

I finally got around to updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now Safari won't work. It was version 4.0.5. I know I should of upgraded prior but didn't need to because everything was working. Any suggestions how to fix this?

Are you opening Safari directly from /Applications rather than using a Dock shortcut ?.
If the one in /Applications won't work either - what happens exactly... if there's a crash report, please post it here.

With Safari 4.1.3 in my apple OSX version 10.4.11, I would need to know what version of Safari can I upgrade on it.

If you stick with Tiger you can't upgrade Safari, but your Mac can run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, and you don't need to have Leopard 10.5 first.
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:

but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard, up to 10.6.8.
Be aware howver that some of your existing applications may not work with Snow leopard, so check that first.
