HT4980 Adding Tamil Font to an iBook thats created with iBooks Author ?

I am trying to add Tamil Font ( Used for Indian Regional Language - Tamil ). I Have over 1500 titles on print and would like to digitalize them for iPads.
When I opened iBooks Author, I don't see any Tamil Fonts available. How do I get around this or is there any other steps that I need to take inorder to make this work.

Go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and check the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar. Then go to the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen and select Tamil. Then type.
What you type in iBooks Author is automatically Unicode. I was referring to the case where you might use some sort of scanning to convert your print titles to digital text.

Bad OS X install Media that came with iBook G4

Hi,
I have been trying to boot from the OS X "Disc 1" that came with my iBook G4 w/o luck. I eventually begun suspecting if the disc is bad and so I downloaded a Fedora Core (Linux) PPC install ISO CD image and burned it on a CD-RW and tried to boot the iBook from it. THis worked.
I now suspect the OS X DVD media I got with the iBook is bad. Is there any way I can get replacement OS X install media for G4 iBook from Apple?

Aah problem solved.
Talked to apple care, they charged me a nominal amount and shipped the OS X Disc 1. The new disc works, I can see it in the boot options etc.

Yes, definately. In iBooks Author go to File > Export and create an iBooks file (it will have .ibooks file extension). You can upload it to iTunes U Course Manager and therefore only make it available to your students.

Ibook Writer edit with other authors

I happened to discover that you can simultaeneously edit a word document with other people. Is it possible to do the same thing with IBook Writer, but without using the same wifi or using file sharing? This is because my friend and I want to write a book together, but she lives overseas and it is hard to have to email her the document every time its her turn to write a chapter. Is it possible? Please reply ASAP.

Nevermind. Lock this discussion. It is IMPOSSIBLE to collaboratively real-time edit with someone on IBooks Writer. I'll jut use CoWord or something.

Existing books re-created with iBooks Author

Alright, I am working for a company who is publishing and selling harcopy books.
Now, I used iBooks Author to create one of these books into iBooks and I am about to sign-up with Apple to have this book into the Store but I want to be sure that I will still have the rights to sell the hard copy of this book as in the license agreement, it says:
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you charge a fee for any book or other work you generate using this software (a “Work”), you may only sell or distribute such Work through Apple (e.g., through the iBookstore) and such distribution will be subject to a separate agreement with Apple.
Does that mean that I can only sell this ebook via Apple and can still sell the hard copies to the shops?
I really want to make sure, I am not turning over my copyrights to Apple or some stuff like that.
I would prefer that someone from Apple answers to this question as this is quite an important matter for me.

If I install my ebook (created with ibooks author) into an ipad, it can be distribut to other iPads or it will available to read only at this specific iPad?

I wrote my ebook (using ibooks author) and now I intending to install it into an ipad and turn it readable only at that machine.
So, what can I do to restrict distribution and avoid it can be readable into other ipads?

A user with your ibook (not from the store) can share that book via email, as an example, thumb drive, server, etc., without restriction.
The only way to prohibit restribution in that example is to not put it out there.

HT5071 Book I created with iBooks Author now won't open!

I can see the file with the .ibooks extension in the Finder but iBooks Author won't open it. Help!

iBooks Author won't open an .ibooks file. That file belongs on your iPad, read w/iBooks.
An iBooks Author document for editing is an .iba file.

Sync books from iBooks on Mac with iBooks on iPhone

This task should be very easy to solve, but still, I can't do it.
I have downloaded a epub book, dragged it to iBooks app on Mac. Then I go to iTunes, click on iPhone and go to Books tab. I can see some books in Sync section, but they are different from those I see in iBooks app on Mac. No way to sync that single book with my iPhone.
So, my question is: what am I doing wrong? Is there any way to do that without killing virgin and summoning Devil? Because to me all this sync issues seem to be a black magic.

Using Sync Collections with PDFs in iBooks
If you turned on Sync Collections, iBooks will keep your PDFs (and non–iBooks Store books) in the same collections across all your iOS devices and Mac (if you're using OS X Mavericks). For example, if you have the same PDF on all your devices, when you move that PDF to your Sci-Fi collection in iBooks on your iPhone, that PDF will appear in your Sci-Fi collection the next time you open iBooks on your iPad.
If you delete a PDF (or non–iBooks Store book) while you have Sync Collections turned on, it only affects the copy on the device. For example, if you delete a copy of the PDF from your iPad, it will still be on your iPhone.

IBook created with iBooks Author does not appear on iPhone

My daughter created and published a book using iBooks Author but it only shows up in the iPad and Mac version of iBooks.
Is there a way to get it to work on the iPhone iBooks store as well?

I found the answer here. I guess I just didn't dig long enough!
The short answer is that iBooks Author does not output a format that supports iPhone. Use Pages to generate an ePub file that supports iPhone, etc.

How do web site created with After Effect differ from that created with dream weaver or Flash?

As I have some experiance not much in After Effect..I have created my website in After Effect., I have no knowledge of Dream weaver or Flash.. My web pages take too much time to open., due to it loads SHOCK WAVE and it take much longer time., were as I see many a website created in other software opens prety fast. As such I want to know whether creating website in After effect is right or not., and how to speed up

You do not create websites in AE, you can create at best animations and that is what you ahev done - produce a fat SWF file. You are really using the wrong tool and should better spend your time on learning HTML and CSS proper and do your website in Dreamweaver or otehr web design tools. And no, Flash is not a website design tool, either.

Is it possible to insert (or add) a blank page into the middle of an existing chapter of a book created with iBooks Author?

I have one LONG chapter in my book and feel is necessary to make some edits that include additional pages within the chapter itself. But when I INSERT a page or press the +Page prompt as I have my chapter open to the place I wish to insert a page, the new page appears only at the END of the chapter and not at the point within the chapter that I would want the new blank page to appear. What gives? Another under developed software bug, or....?
Anyone else have the same issue and has been able to overcome it?

A new page is always dropped at the end. The only option I have found is simply to copy and paste everything down one - or as you want to adapt it. I assume its not a text only book or the text would flow and add pages as required.

Text I enter onto table is not highlitable when viewed on iPad.

select table cell, double click, enter text, press tab.

External Hyperlink behavior in iBooks ePub created with iWork Pages

I am new at ePup publishing. I'm using iWork pages and exporting to ePub. Things were going great until........
I started playing with the hyperlinks in my ePub book in iBooks. I am doing this with an iPad and an iPod Touch. I'm in iBooks, I click on the link, the Safari browser opens and displays the page. As far as I know, I have to close the browser window to get back to the book. I do this by pressing the home button on the device. Now I have a blank screen. I have to open iBooks again to get back to the book.
This is a bunch of work for the reader of my book, I want them to see a bunch of images. this is awful. It is not acceptable.
Is this an ePub problem or an iBook reader problem? My guess is iBooks but I'm not sure
The system should have the facility to look at the external page within iBooks and press an X button to close it so the reader can continue reading.
So now I'm thinking I will need to go back and insert all the images in my book. I think I will proceed to do this once I know for sure there is no better course of action.
Smart and knowledgeable people, please tell me, is there a better way to let my reader see images without a bunch of button pressing?

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

Can i print books created with iBook Author?

I'd like to create a book with images and text. Can anyone tell me if 1. this can be done on MacBookAir - I don't have an iPad. 2. once the book is created, can I then send it away to be printed and bound?

Apple doesn't print books, you would have to find someone else to do that.
The software for making books runs on full computers like the MacBook Air, not on the iPad.

Can a book created with iBooks Author be distributed on iMac's running Leopard OS?

I am a high school computer teacher and I am creating a textbook for the courses I teach using iBooks Author. I have iMacs in my lab running OS X Leopard. With budget cuts and layoffs looming, there is no possibility whatsoever of upgrading to a newer operating system. Will I be able to distribute my textbook to the macs in my lab? If so, would I use iBooks or another EReader application? Or, am I wasting my time trying to create this resource for my kids? Thank You !

iBooks Author requires Lion.
But when you say 'distribute' if you mean 'read' the final output on your computer....no, sorry.
Use Pages and output as PDF or epub and then use the OS X Kindle Reader...
