I have a iphone 5 and want to use face time to video talk to someone on there phone that is not a iphone.is there a app they need to get on there phone to use.and what app if there is one. thanks

You can't do it. FaceTime is proprietary to Apple. You can not use FaceTime to communicate with them. You'll both have to download and use something like Skype, that's cross platform, instead.

For the iPad, iMac you need to create verifyible e-mail addresses created with one of the providers such as Yahoo, Gmail,etc. For the iphone you should use it's phone number, but an e-mail could be used for it too. If you want to associate these e-mail addresses with a single ID, I'm including a link to give you info about how you can do that. Read it carefully, as it can be a bit confusing.

In order to use FaceTIme, you will need to purchase a device that has FaceTime enabled. In otherwords, not one from Saudi Arabia or any other country in which it is prohibited. Your phone will never be cable of FaceTime. You may be able to use something like Skype, though.

These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
c. Perform the following actions
i. Right Click on Components Folder
ii. Select Permissions
iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
iv. Select Advanced Button
v. Select Owner Tab
vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
ix. Select Apply
x. Select Apply again
xi. Exit the Registry Editor
Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

check to see if you have SMS turned on in the message settings.
IF that doesn't help contact your phone carrier as they handle messaging and see if they can help resolve the issue.

The problem with the video clips claiming that all cell phones exhibit a drop in receive signal strength when covered with the hand is that using bars as an indicator is useless. Every cell phone has a different bars to -dBm conversion table. It's comparing apples to oranges.
In order to get a valid comparison, the actual signal strength from the field test mode in -dBm needs to be used. Rather than dump all the numbers and photos into this discussion group, I threw together a web page with my results and guesswork:

So far, the iPhone is somewhere between 6 and 18 times worse than the worst phone tested (Motorola RARZ V3c). What this indicates to me is that something more than just antenna detuning or Q reduction is happening with the iPhone 4. I don't know the exact cause, but the iPhone 4 does not appear to act like the other cell phones.

This has been happening since I got the phone a couple of years ago.
I did not realize that my home land line and my wife's cell phone
always go straight to voice mail until my wife pointed it out to me
several months ago. Is there a setting I can adjust?
Yes, I can make calls to our home land line and to her cell phone
without being diverted to voice mail.

IPhone Face Time upgrade?

I have been anticipating the arrival of iPhone 4 to replace my original aluminum case 4 gig iPhone. As a traditional white case mac guy, I am partial to the white but I am leaning toward the black one for the black edge for watching video and reading.
Aesthetics aside, I am a little disappointed in Face Time only working between 2 iPhone 4 sets. I had truly hoped to use to communicate with my family via iChat on Mac at home especially since it can all be on WiFi.
Does anyone think Apple can or will address this in a software update?

What anyone here "thinks" about this is no more than wild speculation or wishful thinking. None of us knows the technical reasons and restrictions why they designed it this way, so no one here has any idea.
Since the feature was only announced by Apple 12 hours ago, and won't be available for anyone to use for more than 2 weeks, you're getting way, way ahead of yourself complaining. What gave the idea you are entitled to have it the way you want?

I have tried to use face time with someone who has an iPhone - both on IOS 5. We both have wi-fi and ended up having to switch to Skype instead. Can someone please help? Should we both be using e-mails to connect? I use her phone number to send text messages and they go through.

For FT. for a iPhone, you call the phone's telephone number.
For an iPod, you call the email address that is set for the iPod.

Most of his apps where purchased on my itunes for the ipod he uses from my account. Will I need to make him a separate itunes account?

You don't have to create another account - I facetime and imessage with my wife's ipad all the time using one apple id. All you do is on one device check mark one email address in " send and receive " area and on other ipad another adress. So I do that from ***@hotmail to ***@icloud. BTW imessage and facetime have nothing to do with icloud or itunes and to have different id's for icloud would be my recommendation as well.
