It depends on which password you are referring to, but generally speaking you can always restore the Apple TV.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the
Back Up option. If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary
              to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore or have forgotten your restrictions passcode, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • How can I retrieve a forgotten password for my home wi-fi network?

I have a wi-fi network at home for my iMac, printer, phone and two iPads. On trying to connect a new device I discovered that the password I thought was correct will not work. How can I retrieve the correct password from one of the devices already on the network? If I cannot to that, how can I change the network password for all the devices?

    Hi ...
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type Wi-Fi (or the name of your Wi-Fi network0 in the search field top right corner of the Keychain Access window.
Then right or control click that keychain then click Get Info then selec the Attributes tab then click:  Show password
You may need to entier your admin password to proceed.

  • TS1814 On my ipod 4g I locked it with a forgotten password (I mistyped a letter so now I can't get in) and now I want to restore it so I can get back in. Whenever I try to click 'Restore' in Itunes, that same message will pop up, but I'm connected.

If I try to update or restore it, a message pops up saying, "The Ipod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." How can I fix this? I really don't care about losing my data, cause I can just re-sync my songs and videos, and all my pictures are saved on a flash-drive. I just need a way to be able to restore my ipod and get rid of that passcode without using the actual ipod, because I can't get in anyways. How can I do this? Also, I'm not sure which IOS I have. All I know is that it's below 5.0.0. I think it might be IOS 4.0.0, I'm not sure.

You need to contact Apple. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • How do I retrieve a forgotten password for my encrypted backup?

Ive set a password for my backups on iTunes 10.2.2. and I have forgotten it! There is no "Forgot your password" button anywhere!! How do I get past this crap???!!!

I'm sorry you forgot your password, and have to recreate a backup of your phone.
But encrypted files, and passwords are your responsibility to save.
    Hammeredd wrote:
What idiot came up with a password system which has no failsafe?
There are plenty of systems that do not have failsafe for lost passwords.
My Visa and bank cards do not have a "failsafe" pin number.
Encrypted folders, disk images e.t.c do not have failsafe passwords.
What the encrypted back up does is encrypt your data using a key (the "password") that you supply.
In order to have a "fail safe" as you put it, the key would have to be saved somewhere else.
This then it would have to be stored on your computer.
But would you need it also protected? Yes, otherwise it is a useless password.
They could put it in your keychain, which has a password to protect it.
But what if you forget keychain password?
Where should Apple put a failsafe copy of your keychain password?
How about in another encrypted file, with a password.... what if you forget that password?
    This could go on forever.
...every other system we use has a facility to either email your password to you or have you answer a number of security questions to change it.
Are you suggesting that Apple store all encrypted file passwords on their servers?
I am sure then there would be an uproar over Apple being "Big Brother".
no security system is worth losing all your information, this must be a mistake.
No mistake. This is normal practice.
There is also an option to delete your iPhone if the wrong passcode is put in 10 times.
    I have that.
If someone tries to get into my phone I would rather have all the data deleted.
But then I back up data, and save passwords.
THERE MUST BE A WAY OF RECOVERING THIS BACKUP INFORMATION!!!!
There is not. The data is encrypted.
That's the point, no one can get it; unless they apply and very complicated decryption system and spend a lot of time on it (like the CIA)
otherwise my intention to buy my partner an iphone has just bit the dust. And this one will be going as well.
So because you made a mistake in not reading, and not saving your password?
There is a clear warning when you choose to encrypt your backup.
This really is a case of you not taking responsibility for your own mistake.
    You made a mistake.
Now step up and accept it; and don't make it again.
What you can do in future is create a "note" in your keychain and save your passwords there if you are prone to losing passwords.

  • Any idea how to get past a forgotten password??

My dad recently bought an Iphone 4s second hand and it wasn't restored back to factory settings so therefore, not synced to his Itunes. He set a password on it and somehow forgot the password. Can anyone help as I have no idea how to get into the phone.

You need to deal with apple on this. Trouble with signing in could be they have two passwords for the same person and lock you out.  Call your carrier, call Apple, Make an appt at an apple store genius bar.
I would tell you my story about the password/itunes issue, but it is about my son getting a new macbook, not iPhone.
Bottom line, they are careful with identity issues and you need to talk to them.

  • It started with a forgotten password...

I have only one ID on my Mac, so for the longest I didn't bother to set a password.
Then the hard drive went kaput. When I got it back from the Mac-hospital, the new drive had a password set for me. How nice.
Over time, new computers and the like, this password was lost or forgotten.
When I contacted the Mac-tech (a local outfit as the market doesn't support an iStore), they sent me to a Mac-support page.
Long story not so short, my iBook, when prompted for password and it is entered, now goes to a unix-like screen (no desktop, command prompt) with the following across the top:
    Darwin/BSD (Macintosh.local.) (console)
    login: UniNEnet: 0 0 UniNEnet::putToSleep - disabled cell clock!!!
Any ideas on how to get my iBook back?

I thought it a good suggestion to restart, Apple-s and go into the what I assume is the Unix area (<--showing my expertise ).
I got stuck with the following:
    I typed in:
    /sbin/fsck -y
    I got back:
    ** /dev/rdisk0s10
    ** Root file system
    ** Checking HFS Plus volume.
    ** Checking Extents Overflow file.
    ** Checking Catalog file.
    ** Checking multi-linked files.
    ** Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    ** Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Invalid leaf record count
(It should be 7 instead of 596)
    ** Checking volume bitmap.
    ** Checking volume information.
    ** Repairing volume.
** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED **
    sh-2.05a#
I did this about 10 times, as the instruction said to enter the /sbin/fsck -y command until it said my disc was ok.
I think I am on the right path, but I think I have reached a fork not accounted for in the support note.
    Any other ideas?
    I really appreciate it.

  • How to restore with no way of getting internet access

I have an old 4s. I want to delete all content and restore as new. when i try to do that on the phone it asks me to enter my icloud password. I do that but it does to recognize it because i dont have any internet access. I cant turn wifi on because the button is grayed out.
I deleted the phone from find iphone but that didnt work. It still appears on my iphone and itunes still shows it as on.
I cant delete icloud account from that phone for the same reason.

What happens when trying to restore the iPhone with iTunes on your computer? You are promoted to turn the iCloud account off on the iPhone with the iPhone only - no prompt for the password on your computer with iTunes when trying to restore the iPhone?
