HT4993 Moving Contacts across Apple IDs

My husband and I share an AppleID and I need to get him his own since we both have iPhones now.  Is there a way to easily transfer his 400 contacts to his new Apple ID?

Before deleting the iCloud account from his device go to:
Settings > iCloud > turn off contacts and choose to keep on phone
Turn off all the toggles, keep the items you want and delete the rest when prompted.
Delete the account from his device
Sign back in with his new account. The contacts(and anything else) on his phone should sync to his iCloud account.
or
Sign in to iCloud.com from a web browser on your computer. Go to Contacts > Select all (Mac: Commad+A  / PC: CTRL+A) > Click the gear on the bottom left > Export vCard. Then sign out and back in with his new account > Contacts > Click the gear on the bottom left > Import vCard and navigate to the vCard you exported. Once they are in iCloud the will get pushed to any device he signs in to.

I have all my contacts on my BB and now have a Macbook, Ipad and Iphone4, how do I best upload my contacts across all of them, without iCLOUD?

I too have no desire to put my contacts in the Icloud. I have MacBook Pro, Ipad 2 and Ipod Touch. Here is the workaround I came up with last night so that I do not have to hand enter all updates and new people to Contacts on all three devices..
Ok so you have three devices with Contacts. You want to update a friend's work phone.
Here’s what you do: update the contact on one device. Then while you are in Contacts click on the arrow in the right hand bottom corner and tell it you want to email that contact card to yourself.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Two and click on the .vcf file that is attached. It will then save/update the contact information in that Device Two's  Contacts.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Three and repeat the process.
Walah! you can update without retyping the information three times and you can keep your personal information and other people's contact information out of the Cloud.
I keep waiting for Apple to update Maverick and restore our ability to sync Contacts, Calendar and Booksmarks via I-Tunes and without using the Cloud.

  • Can iTunes share purchased content across Apple IDs within one household, OR

    QUESTION ONE
Will iTunes share purchased content using TWOApple IDs, across different devices within one household?
    QUESTION TWO
Should each device with a separate user have its own iCloud ID? CONCURRENTLY, should each device belonging to the SAME user use the SAME cloud ID?
    QUESTION THREE
I think I "can" use one Apple ID, and just usedifferent iCloud IDs for EACH device. Am I fundamentally wrong? Am I legallywrong?
    UNDERSTOOD FACTS:
    1)  Apple states, each person should have their own AppleID:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37
    2)  iCloud servicesare: mail, contacts, calendar etc...
    3)  iTunes servicesare: music, videos, Apps, etc...
You can sync iTunes across up to5 different computers using your Apple ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420, however there does not seem to be alimit of how many Apple devices youcan sync within using a single iTunes account (Apple ID). *NOTE: beware automaticsynchronization of new apps..
    4)  iTunesin the Cloud is a different animal altogether! This should allow sharing of all iTunes content across all “your” devices, aslong as it was purchased thru iTunes (If not, you need to shell out an additional $25/yr for iTunes Match)
SCENARIO:  I got a new iPhone, and am giving theold iPhone to my spouse. ALL iTunes content has been managed and purchased using oneApple ID that matches one iCloud ID. Ideally, just like anyother family using multiple Apple products and usingiCloud; we would like to SHARE songs & Apps, but NOT share calendars, mail etc...(sharing contacts would be nice).
    QUESTION FOUR
Under the above scenario, must I have a “.me email” account?
I have been reading threadsabout managing content across multiple devices, using different IDs, both AppleIDs and Cloud IDs, and there is a LOT of confusion. I'm visual, so I've attached the graphic illustrating how I "think" I should proceed.  **I have not set up the new iPhone yet.
We do not have a Mac or a".me email" account, and we use Gmail.
    Any help is appreciated!

I have the computer authorized to use the Apple ID content (been using iTunes since 2007).
My issue is I cannot create sperate iCloud IDs for each device. I get prompted/directed to create a new Apple ID, which is what I want to avoid. I want to use one "FAMILY" AppleID as it is, and use iCloud IDs for each device.
My logic is: ALL my purchases are tied to an AppleID, and I just want to share on devices that leave the house, like another iPhone.
So- what to do? How to get a seperate iCloud ID without a seperate AppleID? I have an iPhone & iPad, husband has an iTouch & iPhone. How to share selectively? All devices were originally setup using one Cloud ID and one Apple ID. Now I need new IDs to represent the new user on the iTouch & iPhone.

  • Sharing music across Apple IDs

Background: Three person family (husband, wife, daughter) using a single Apple ID to purchase music for iTunes on Windows.  Our daughter got her first iPhone (sweet 16) and setup her own Apple ID (Apple ID#2) using her own debit card, and we'd like her to "own" the music she previously purcahsed under our Apple ID (Apple ID#1).
    So I have two questions
    1) Can we transfer "ownership" of selected songs from our Apple ID#1 to her new Apple ID#2?
    2) Can we co-mingle the two libraries on our iTunes WIndows library (family PC) so that we can play all the music on the PC, and she can sync her music to her iPhone (Apple ID#2), and we can sync our music to our iPods (Apple ID#1)?
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris

By actually adding the music to their libraries, aren't they copying them over to their accounts? Or am I really just not getting it?
That is a settable option. Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that "Copy files..." is not checked. Then, when a file is added to the library, iTunes will reference the existing file without making a new copy.

  • Two Apple IDs, Two Icloud accts, two contact data bases??

Hi all, I hope you might help me sort this mess out. Thanks in advance.
I have two Apple IDs - one of those ids is tied to iTunes and is my primary account, as it is linked to the Itunes store, my Iphone and Ipad. It has 5gb of which 4 is used for backups, etc. Aside from all my Iphone stuff, the data of importance is my contacts db that includes all my iphone contacts.
The other Apple ID was issued by Apple when I started to use MobileMe. It has a me.com address.  When Apple moved to iCloud I got this account switched and also got 25gb of space that is good until Sept 2013. I have used about 2gb of space on that.  The only data of importance on it is the contacts, and this has a mix of some Iphone contacts as well as contacts I added as I was using one of the macs.
It seems that I did not grasp the limitations of Icloud and did not notice that my macs - MBP and MBA were and are storing my contact data using different accounts. Both contacts db's are full of duplicates as well as there are approx 200+ contacts that are in one or the other contact db, but not both.
So, I think I might merge the two into one contact db, then stop using the me.com acct.
To get to this state I would presume that I should export the contacts from both accounts, then open up one of them in the contact app of my choice, then import the second export, and then do the clean up.  Then I would upload the clean file back to my primary icloud acct.
By uploading a clean contact db that is corrected and duplicate free, how do I tell icloud to replace the db that is there with the one that I am uploading?
I have found nothing in tech articles, or discussions that suggest that the approach will work -- I am unsure that by uploading a clean contact db, I will not simply duplicate the names and addresses that are already there, along with adding the 200+ contacts that are not there.
Perhaps I delete the contact db from icloud - but again I see no information on that.

Then you should be able to just do the following:
On the Mac that is syncing contacts with the me.com iCloud account you are abandoning, open your contacts and export them as a vCard (File>Export>Export vCard).  Attach this to an email and send it to yourself.
Open the email on your other Mac and double-click on the attachment to import the contacts.  The contacts should be merged with the contacts already on this Mac, as well as to the iCloud account the Mac is syncing contacts with.
You can then clean up your duplicates by, for example, opening Address Book (Contacts) on your Mac, going to Card>Look for Duplicates, then merging any duplicates it finds.
You can then go to System Preferences>iCloud on the Mac that is syncing your me.com account, sign out of that account (which will delete any synced data), then sign into the iCloud account you are keeping and check the data you want to sync (which will sync the iCloud data to this Mac).

All apps and purchases are linked to your apple ID, so you can't share them across 2 devices that are using different apple id's, it won't work. the purchases that are on your mac at the moment will only work with the apple id they were brought with.
the only thing thats possible to share is purchased music. you have to first covert it to mp3 within itunes, then your bf can import it into his own itunes library and sync with his phone.

  • 2 apple IDs causing Contacts problems

I have an iPhone, iPad and desktop mac. I use Contacts for a couple of large mailing lists. I want to be able to have my contacts synced across all my devices.
The problem is that I accidentally have 2 different Apple IDs. Apple says tough luck, you can't merge them. So new contacts get put randomly in one or the other, and when I send out a group email, some old addresses get fetched up from who-knows-where and people say, "I unsubscribed a year ago and you're still sending me emails!" Not good for credibility.
I took care of this once, but after installing the last OS update, it's all back again. And it makes Mail and Contacts run     r e a l l y    s l o w.
How do I get everything synced without causing Contacts to make duplicates?? Here's a screenshot to explain the problem. Some of my contacts have 4-5 duplicates.
Don't tell me to run the duplicates command, that doesn't fix it!!

After speaking to the Apple support rep, the solution is a TON of manual work. He said to choose the account that I use to pay for stuff on Apple, and then copy everything to that one, and stop using the other one. Because I wasn't aware of the situation, some of my contacts are in one iCloud account, and not in the other.
Now, when I get an Unsubscribe request, first I go to the iCloud web page and delete them there, and then I go to my desktop Contacts. But I haven't had the time to go back in and resolve everything, so I still have five or more duplicates on some of the names in my desktop files.
I've had my email address since 1995, and I have over 2600 people on my newsletter distribution list alone, so this is going to be a lot of very boring work for me, and other tasks seem more urgent!
I know, I should probably use a mailing service, but I don't have the money and I've not been impressed by any of the ones I've researched, anyway. I'm actually surprised that Contacts has been able to keep up with my ever-growing list. There was a time, several years ago, when I was told my list was too big but apparently that''s been resolved.

  • I have 2 Apple ids and two corresponding iCloud accounts. My five Apple devices are linked to one or the other. As one consequence a small number of my contacts are associated with one iCloud account, the majority with the other. How can I merge?

For reasons not entirely clear to me I have ended up with two Apple ids, two iCloud accounts and my Apple devices being associated with one or the other iCloud account/Apple id. One of the complications is that my contacts are partially owned by one iCloud account, partially by the other.
    Is there any way to
    - merge the contacts (I have tried exporting from one and importing into the other but one set will overwrite the other)?
    - migrate all devices to one single iCloud account without being locked out for 3 months?
    - merge Apple ids or just delete one of them without locking out devices?
Grateful for any suggestions because this is turning into a headache.

You can merge the contacts from one account with your other one without overwriting them.  Sign into the first account, download them as vCard (iCloud: Export contact information as a vCard), email them to a device signed into the account you want to merge them with, tap the vCard and choose Add..., then Create New Contacts.
You can also migrate a copy of the data in one account and merge it with the other by signing into the account you are leaving, then signing out (or deleting the account if not running iOS 8), then choosing Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign into the other account and choose Merge when prompted.  This won't move Notes however.  If you are syncing notes that you want to migrate from the other account, you can temporarily add the account to your Mac as a secondary account by going to System Preferences>Internet Accounts (or Mail,Contacts,Calendars)>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with the other account ID.  Then enable notes syncing in the secondary account.  You will then be able to open the notes app and drag and drop notes from one account to the other.  When you're done, delete the secondary account from your Mac.
You can't merge IDs as Apple does not allow it.  Also, you won't be locked out of anything for 3 months.  The "90-day switch" rule only applies to changing your iTunes store account, not your iCloud account.  Just leave your iTunes store account as-is.  The ID you use for the iTunes store does not have to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

No. You cannot link your contacts to hers. However, you can use Home Sharing to share the information:

  • Contacts added to other phones without same apple ids

My boyfriend and I both have iPhones I have a 4s and he now has a 5. We have separate apple ids and iTunes accounts. We have separate computers that we sync our iPhones to. Yet somehow our contacts keep merging. I get his contacts added to mine and he gets mine added to his.  Before it was just annoying, because it was a very time consuming project to remove the added contacts one by one. Now the other day we removed my contacts from his phone for what seems like the hundredth time and now all of mine are missing from mine as well. We went to iCloud, and while his contacts are correct, mine only has about 9 of my 100 or so contacts. Some of these contacts I have no way of getting the numbers or the addresses back. How do we stop this from happening?!?!?!?! We do have an iPad as well, but it is linked to his apple ID as well.

    Wrong number in iMessage
    simple fix
go to settings- messages - send and receive- select the numbers and emails you want to use - deselect the ones you don't need

If have separate iCloud accounts and want to keep your all your iCloud data separate, you can create separate user accounts for each of you, then sign into your individual iCloud account within your user account.
If you want to just add both iCloud calendars on your Mac, you can sign into one iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud, then add the second account in System Preferences>Internet Accounts>iCloud and only check Calendars with this second account.

  • Is there a work around to use two Apple IDs across and iPhone and a MB Pro?

iPhone 5 and Macbook Pro Retina late 2013.  iOS 8.1 and Yosemite.
It's a company iPhone and a personal MBP.  Phone has an Apple ID associated with company credit card and MBP personal Apple ID with personal credit card.
There is a cross platform issue as you cannot use two Apple IDs in Facetime and Messages.  Therefore my iPhone and MBP do not interoperate correctly, for example, a text message in messages on the iPhone will not appear in Messages on the MBP.  Similar situation for FaceTime.  When you try to enter the second email associated with the second Apple ID on either platform you get "cannot verify because email is already in use".
    Any work arounds?
This is something Apple should have really anticipated as iPhones become more widespread in corporate use.

Thank you for your continued interest and research on my behalf on this situation. I was on the phone with Apple support (at no charge) for over an hour yesterday. Becasue I have what they cal a "vintage computer"(7 1/2 years old), there are some additional issues.  We thought it was solved at teh end of the phone call but aparently it was not. I am going to call them now and see what else can be done. I will keep you posted.
    Thanks again.
