im considering buying second hand Iphone 4S that is Factory Unlocked from Sprint.
i know that Sprint runs on CDMA while many countries has GSM only.
if i put my GSM sim in CDMA unlocked Iphone 4S in a country where there is only GSM network will i be able to use it on local networks ??

There is no such thing as a fully unlocked Sprint iPhone 4S. Sprint can unlock the SIM slot for customers in good standing to use when roaming outside the country.
It can never be used in the US with any carrier other than Sprint.
Since the term "factory unlocked" as it is generally used can NOT apply to the Sprint or Verizon iPhone 4S, I would be very very wary of buying that phone.
Do yourself a favor and buy a legitimately unlocked iPhone from an authorized source.

Sorry, what others here have said is wrong, wrong, wrong. There is nothing about the hardware of the iPhone 4S that would prevent a Sprint 4S from being used on T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier, international or domestic. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Each and every 4S is 100% hardware capable of doing both GSM and CDMA out of the box. The only impediment is that Sprint would have to authorize an unlock for you. This is something they simply refuse to do. If anyone at Sprint has told you that they can't unlock a 4S for domestic use with another carrier, they have lied to your face. This, by the way, is something they're doing with everyone who asks the question - just Google search "Sprint unlock iPhone 4S", and you'll see dozens of internet threads where people talk about being lied to by Sprint about this issue. The good news is that Sprint signed an agreement with the FCC regarding letting off-contract customers unlock their phones. The agreement takes effect in mid-March, and Sprint is dragging its feet until then. Once that deadline passes, if Sprint still hasn't agreed to unlock your phone, then they're in violation of the agreement, and you can and should report them to the FCC. I sure plan to. Then I'm going to switch carriers, to one that doesn't lie to me and keep fraudulent liens on my property.

In most cable systems, the router you have will plug into your modem and just work automatically. A NAT (Network Address Translation) router takes your external IP and hands out LAN (Local Area Network) based IPs. All of the devices you are working with right now should handle the change automatically unless you've changed from the default automatic configuration.
The problem with your wireless end of this is that the iPhone is not yet 802.11n, only 802.11g. Because that router is not dual band, all of your wifi devices will be forced to slow down to 802.11g speeds. This won't matter much for each device that's connecting to the internet, as your bottleneck is still going to be there. Where you will see slowdowns is device to device connections, like transferring data between the devices.

Sprint are known to be pretty tough-nut to crack. You are out of luck.
Unlocking using unofficial sources (other than Sprint) is neither supported by Apple nor here on this forum.

Before buying, talk with Verizon, see what they say, talk with Sprint, see what they say about authorizing the flashing. No, unless your phone was officially unlocked by the UK carrier it was originally locked to, and from your post stating you're roaming, it would appear your phone is not unlocked. The 2G iphone was only sold officially unlocked in France when it was introduced.

No. CDMA carriers such as Sprint and Verizon don't allow phones from other carriers, even if the phone is isentical to theirs.

Use Find My Friends app instead. Much easier to manage, and you won't need each other's id/pw's to do it. They only need to accept your invitations and vice versa.

OK, here's the deal: A relative who lives in Thailand wants an iPhone 4, but they are expensive there and she wants me to buy one in America for her. I realize that to buy an iPhone, you have to sign a contract, and that's what makes the initial price cheaper ($199 with contract, vs. about $760 in Thailand unlocked). Is there a way to buy the iPhone with contract, and bring it over to Thailand to use it? Or do I have to buy it unlocked? As mentioned above, all iphone in U.S are carrier locked and cannot be unlocked officially. Whether you buy it under a contract or not, it will still be carrier locked to AT&T or Verizon.
If you want to buy it from Hong Kong Apple oneline store, you will need an address in Hong Kong for the iphone to be shipped, as they only ship inside the country, not outside of it.
Technically, factory unlocked iphone will always be expansive than the non-contract pricing, this is because there is no contract for factory unlocked iphone. Canada do sell factory unlocked iphone so if you plan on visiting Canada then you might as well buy one from there.
To answer your last question: No it is not okay to buy an iphone in U.S as it is not factory unlocked and I would not waste your money in buying one in U.S, but you can buy one in Canada.
Just keep in mind that warranty is country specific so if you happen to buy one in Canada, the warranty may not work in Thailand.
