• Why does my iMessage use my email and not my phone number?

I upgraded to IOS 5 recently and my friend wondered why he had to use my email to message me and not my iPhone's number. My carrier is Verizon and I bought my iPhone 4 in January. Does anyone know how to fix this? I already have done a system restore and that did not work.

Go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number instead of your email address. If you don't see your phone number and/of you don't see the Caller ID setting, your phone number is not yet activated with the iMessage server (and you will notice that is says "waiting for activation" under iMessage).

• Why won't iMessage send from my iPad to a contact who has an iPhone and uses iMessage on her iPhone?

Sometimes when I'm using my iPad and I want to send a message via iMessage it won't let me. This happens even when I know that the recipient has an iPhone and uses the iMessage app on her iPhone. Why is that? I can use iMessage from my iPhone and it will go to her iPhone. Why can't it work from my iPad.?

• Why won't messages use my phone number as my ID for my messages when I have it set as the default?

I have gone through all of my settings since updating to iOS 8 and I made sure my phone number is listed as my default caller ID for messages and facetime (meaning I have logged out and back in again on my phone, iPad, AND Macbook....) but it's still using my Apple ID e-mail address and when someone texts me to my phone number it sends it as a text and not an Apple message.

You say that your account is blocked and that you have your Apple id back (?).
If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.

• Why won't iMessages send any of my photos? (iPhone 5, iOS 7.1)

Hello!
I'm facing a little problem with iMessage. Each time I try to send a photo from my Camera Roll to someone on my contacts list using iMessage, it would say that the photo is "Delivered;" however, after 10-15 seconds, a red exclamation point will pop up on the side of the image I'm trying to send with the word "Not delivered" right under it. When I tap on the exclamation point, I am prompted to either "Try Again" or "Send as Text Message." I've tried both options, but only the "Send as Text Message" option works. I can send and receive regular messages through iMessage and I can receive photos from other people through iMessage, but I cannot send photos at all. SMS/MMS works fine. It doesn't matter if I am on Wi-Fi or 4G/LTE; I still can't send photos.
I checked out the following troubleshooting guide and tried some of the solutions, but still hasn't been solved.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
I did not play with any messaging settings, so I'm pretty sure that isn't where the problem is coming from. About two weeks ago, though, I tried sending 8 photos through iMessage all at once. The person I was sending it too never received the photos, but I did not get any red exclamation points. I deleted the 8 photos that my friend never received, but that didn't solve the problem either.
I am using an iPhone 5 on iOS 7.1 (11D167). Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Update for daveeede, amcelwee08, kirbalo, and everyone else who may have this problem:
I'm now able to send photos through iMessage to my contacts (both iPhone and non-iPhone users). It started working Friday night (April 19) when I went out; I was in a part of my city that I usually don't go to. I found a picture on Facebook that I wanted to share, so I tried sending it to someone with an iPhone 4S. Surprisingly, the photo went through on 4G LTE (the person I sent the picture to replied back). To see if this was temporary, I sent another photo the next day to the same person and to an old phone of mine through iMessage, but this time, I was using my home's wi-fi connection. The photo was received in about 10 seconds. I have yet to try if I can send photos through iMessage on my Mac.
I did not play with any messaging settings, but here are three things that I did leading up to Friday night (the night it started working):
1) My old phone was a Samsung Mystic that had access to my Facebook account through ATT Social Net. I checked my Facebook settings and noticed that it was still connected to my account though ATT Social Net ended late last year. I removed it from my account.
2) Those of you who have Facebook Mobile activated on your phones (text alerts for Facebook notifications), try disabling it by replying 'STOP' 326-65 or whatever number that informed you that text alerts is activated. Think of any other services that send you text alerts frequently. Try disabling some or all for a few hours then try sending a photo.
3) I went to the official Apple support site on my phone, tapped on "Phone, Messages, and Cellular Data," tapped on "SMS, MMS, or iMessage not working as expected," tapped on the first option to send my phone's serial number and system information, and then entered my phone number (you can use email also) on the "iOS Diagnostics" window. A bar stating that it was getting information on the health of my phone popped up. I received a text message within a few minutes that gave me instructions on what to do next; I think I entered a verification code on the "iOS Diagnostics" window. Unfortunately, chat and phone help has a fee unless your phone is still under warranty. Thus, I couldn't get in contact with support. However, this was the last thing I did. I'm not sure, but perhaps sending information of my phone to Apple helped? Here's the site I went to:
https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action
I ruled out that it isn't any type of hold of some sort on my ATT account. Initially, I thought messaging would go back to normal after my new billing cycle began, but that was not the case since mine starts every 12th of the month. It might be random, but not entirely sure. Is anyone else able to send photos through iMessage now?

• Facetime and Imessage using cell number.

I am using the Iphone%.
My Imessage and Facetime are showing waiting for activation and then Unseccessful. I can only use my apple ID but not my phone noumber for imessage and Facetime. The conatct noumber is displayed in grey but not ticked also i cant do anything. I tried going to setting message / Facetime and sign out apple id and again sign in. But it still shows waiting for activation and few hours later activation unsuccessful. This is happening since 10 days now. I am able to imessgae and facetime from apple ID but not my Phone Number. Please suggest a remedy. It is much better to use imessage and facetime with the cell number rather than an email address. Please help and advise

Turn off iMessage on the new iPad.
Delete the iCloud account on the iPad, and enter the iCloud acct you used to have for the iPad 2.
That should do it.

• HT4976 Why won't iMessage let me message back

I have tried to text back but it won't send and I have tried resending but it still won't let me send back

See what I don't understand is that I can sign in apple Id on here and on my App Store but not on the iPhone. Mine started because for some reason it was taking ages to send an IMessage so I held down the message it was trying to send and pressed sent as text then it changed the iMessages to txt messages so then I didn't no how to change it back. So I switched off I message and then that when it wouldn't work. And also my FaceTime app has disappeared

• Why won't iTunes use my credits?

I am trying to buy an album and I have credits, but iTunes wants to bill me instead of using my credits. How I can I change it so the iTunes will use my creadits like it is suppose to?

The iPhone 3G was released in the summer of 2008. Apple has a far better track record of supporting older phones than any other smart-phone vendor in the market. I'm not suggesting you have to buy a new phone. I'm suggesting that if you want to do things it wasn't designed to do, you need to buy a new phone.
There are plenty of alternatives to iCloud. Gmail comes to mind. You can set it up as an Exchange account and sync calendar and contacts as well as mail.
Technology moves quickly. Smartphones like the iPhone and Android phones did not even exist 5 years ago. iOS is already in its 5th major version. Apple is supporting 3 generations of the iPhone with the current iOS release. No other smartphone maker goes beyond 2. many don't go beyond whatever the current model is.
Any computer or smartphone you get should continue to work exactly as well as the day you took it out of the box until it dies.
Next you'll be complaining because the new car you bought 2 years ago didn't come with the turbocharger that's in this years model and is now useless because you can't drive it over 100MPH. YOU NEVER COULD TO BEGIN WITH! Why do you think Apple or anyone else owes you the ability to do so now?

• Why won't iMessage activate?!

I had a previous problem with my brother, without my knowledge, jailbreaking my iPhone. Luckily though I managed to restore it and update it to IOS jailbreak FREE thank god.
But for some reason when I try to turn on FaceTime or iMessage, it just says 'Waiting for activation...' for ages and won't actually activate, I've tried many methods to fix this but nothing seems to have worked, what I've tried below:
Restore the iPhone via iTunes
Reset Network Settings
Sign out Apple ID, turn phone off, turn phone on, Sign in, turn on iMessage
Reset all settings
Turn off 3G, Mobile Data
Turn iMessage/FaceTime off then on
Remove SIM Card, restart iPhone, turn on iMessage
Erase All Content and Settings
Restore from a Backup
Out of all of that, NOTHING HAS WORKED?! Please help me, as I need iMessage to message my boss, girlfriend and parents as I haven't got the money to top up my GiffGaff balance.

• Why won't Firefox use the perfectly good Favourites folder already existing inWindows for the Bookmarks?

I am trying to compare different browsers to find a favourite. However I find it an unbearable nuisance that when I save a bookmark in Firefox I can't use it in IE9 or Chrome or any other browser.
This is a universal problem with browsers, they all make their own folders for bookmarks. Is there a good technical reason for this or is it only done to irritate the users.
There is a perfectly good Favourites folder installed by Windows. Why not use that one instead of clogging up the system with unnecessary extra folders.

1. There are a few services that will synchronize Firefox and IE bookmarks, along with some other browsers.
Xmarks and CometMarks are two that I am aware of.
2. The PlainOld Favorites extension allows you to have Firefox use IE's bookmarks.
