Call the carrier - AT&T - and ask them to unlock the phone. Be advised AT&T will only unlock if your account is in good standing. Alternatively you can request it here:

What kind of cards do you want to use ? PCI cards ? PXI cards ? What is the speed you want to reach ? How many ports do you want ?

i receive a message saying that 'the sim card inserted in this phone does not seem to be supported. Has anyone experience anything similar?
Try removing your sim and insert it again and make sure that its clean as well as the sim tray. insert it seucrely locked in place. See if it works, quick fix. If not try to use a different sim or try your sim to a different h/s. For you to be able to isolate if its with your sim or iPhone. Tricky Tips!

It depends on what you called old iPhone.
iPhone/iPhone 3G, 3GS uses the standard sim card.
iPhone 4, 4S uses the micro sim card. -

I Updated my 3g yesterday to ios 4, and now it says exactly what is in the title.
i have tried 3 sim cards all different networks, and one from an Iphone 4. none of them work.
is there anyway i can get this phone working again, i want to give it to my daughter.I got it from work. They said it was O2. The last one was and worked fine
It was a phone that had a cracked screen that I replaced and won't allow me to do anything until I connect to iTunes but now saying the above.
When you say it maybe locked is this the phone being locked to work at all or locked to a network? Can I resolve this myself?

i recently purchased a used iphone through Ebay and the seller mentioned that it was locked to vodafone.I have been trying different vodafone sims in it but the problem is same.now i am in Australia and i checked the phone's status through Apple and apparently it says that it is locked to AT&T.Now we dont have AT&T in Australia.My guess is that i might need an AT&T sim to first connect it to the iTunes and register it and like after it works fine, i can put my vodafone sim in it.That might be helpful.But i am not sure.Does anybody know how to properly fix this issue?

The US iPhone will only work with an ATT SIM. It won't work with your vodafone SIM. You'll need to put the phone back on ebay and buy an Australian iPhone. -
How do I restore my new iphone using the icloud data stored from another phone?
Yesterday my iPhone stopped working so I took it to the Apple store who replaced it with another one. I used iCloud when setting up this new one but this only restored my numbers to the new phone. I plugged the phone into my computer when I got home and again tried to restore my phone to the setup from yesterday. This changed the phone to the setup from over a year ago. I know my old phone backed up more recently than this because under iCloud 'Manage Storage' it shows that my old phone backed up yesterday. Any ideas how I can access this?
On your replacement phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings...you should now be able to use the backup from your old phone.

i hate being asked if i would like the password remembered all the time. i just want them to be saved automatically. i was able to do this by changing the pasword prompter in the components folder of Mozilla on version 3.5.3 but now witht he new 4.0 version i cant. i am going to downgrade to a previous version. which is the latest that i cant still change the password prompter on??

How do i activate my sim. Phone was locked to Virgin mobile, was told to insert my sim (telstra) go to itunes and re-register phone. Itunes keeps saying The sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported. Brett
Your phone was previously hacked to get it to work on a carrier other than the one it was locked to. Restoring it restored the carrier lock. Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize an unlock. Not all carriers will do this. You will have to find out who it is locked to and contact them.

but this come at the cost of the phone only being able to work
with the carrier this is called a sim lock
the only people who can remove a sim lock is the carrier which

The phone is still locked to the original carrier; contact that carrier for unlocking options and if it's offered.

Is the SIM from the carrier the device is locked to?
Has the device ever been hacked or jailbroken?
Have you tried simply removing and re-installing the SIM? What about replacing the SIM?
