when i make Erase all content and settings take long time

My personal experience with "erase all content and settings" is that once you say you "really, really want to erase", it happens almost immediately.  The reboot back to the initial setup screen might take a minute or two...

I wish to reset my ipad (as advised by the Apple Store) to attempt to resolve an issue with a non-responsive part of the screen..  However, when I select General>Reset>Erase all content and Settings, I am prompted for a a Restrictions Passcode (which I have never set).  I have now entered random codes 11 times and the ipad has not reset. How do I get past this?  I am now at the point where I have to wait 60 mins before I can enter another random passcode.  I just want the ipad to clear down, erase everything so I can start again.

The other option is to force iPad into Recovery Mode.

Your headline says iPhone 3GS, but your text says 3G.
iPhone 3G is not compatible with iOS5. 3GS is.

The same password, you use to unlock your phone, use that passcode.

How do I erase all content and settings on my iPhone 3Gs when I dont remember my Apple ID password and I haven't installed Find my iPhone app on the phone? Thanks!

It should be the same AppleID and password you use to log in here.
I haven't installed Find my iPhone app on the phone?
Installing the app will simply allow you to locate a different iDevice.
You don’t need to use it to locate the iPhone in your hands. If it’s not in your hands, you cannot use the app on that device...

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. Usually takes about 10 seconds time. If still problem. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the Firmware.

  • HT1430 I have erased all content and settings from my iphone and when I turned it back on i can only access the emergency calls, what should i do?

I have reset my iphone and erased all content and settings. when i turned it back on i only have access to emergency numbers what should i do?
    Thanks for help.

After wiping it, you need to re-activate it. If it is carrier locked, you will need to activate it on the network it is locked to.

  • I have 4gen Ipod touch. When I try to erase all content and settings the ipod goes to a screen with a USB plug with a round itunes logo at the top and is frozen there.

Why cant I erase all content and settings? When I choose this option from the menu it takes me to a screen with a USB plug and an itunes logo and freezes there.

What happens when you connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes? That is how you restore to factory settings.

  • If I erase all content and settings, can I still make calls?

I've got a lot of 'Other' content on my iPhone that won't go away. (I suspect that it's corrupted music files.) I think the only way I can actually get rid of it is to do an 'Erase all content and settings' and basically hard-reset my iPhone to factory specs.
My question is this: Will my phone still be able to make and receive calls after I do this? It'll still be my phone, won't it? It won't forget its own number or anything like that? I want to keep the phone, of course, just get rid of that **** 'Other'. So if I erase all content, will this be possible?

Doing this will not prevent you from using it as a phone, provided that after erasing it you go through the steps to complete its setup.  As you'll see, you'll be prompted to re-enter your Apple ID, etc. once you complete the "Erase all content and settings" process.  At that point you'll be prompted to load a prior backup, either from iCloud or iTunes, but that is optional.  You may want to first try loading your prior backup to avoid having to re-do everything on the iPhone.  Putting your prior backup onto the iPhone may not result in a swollen "Other" as you have now, but maybe it will (if so, just do this again but don't install a backup).

  • What happens when I erase all content and settings?

I gave my son my iPhone 4.  We just put his sim card in and it started working and  I told him to change the apple id to his.  However, this morning, he said that he still gets my iMessages.  So we did an erase all content and settings.  Now the phone doesn't work.  What do we do?

When you erase all contents and settings - it wipes the phone clean.
If your son gets your imessage, on his phone go to settings - message - send&receive - uncheck or remove your apple id.

When you restore, you can restore to factory settings or to a backup. Restoring to factory settings removes everything and takes you back to out of the box status and you start all over again. Restoring from your backup will replace all of your app data, bookmarks, email settings and things like that. You still may need to sync all of your purchased apps and music, photos and so on back to the iPad.
I assume you want to restore from your backup to put all of you data back on the device so connect the iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, right click on the device name on the left side under the devices heading and select restore from backup. After you restore from your backup, make sure that you sync all of your other content with iTunes.

  • IPhone 4 "erase all content and settings"

Okay first off, I would really appreciate some real and thoughtful answers. So my friend so me his iPhone 4 from Verizon Wireless. It still has service that he pays for (but I give him money each month to pay for it) I gave him money for the service for this month, but I want to wipe the service early because I found out that he was tracking my location and calling me out when I tell him I'm somewhere so I can't hang out (When I tell him the truth, that I have plans or just don't want to go he threatens to kill himself) I paid for the phone and want to keep it but I don't want him to keep tracking me as I plan to finally discontinue this exhausting friendship afterward and would like to not be tracked. He does have this still registered with his mom's apple id with track my iPhone from when he had the phone. I guess my real question is, does using the erase all content and settings make MY iPhone completely unavailable to him (Including content and location or even know if I decide to sell it) If this works, I plan on creating my own apple ID to set it up with and paying for my own Verizon Wireless account. Any REAL help that actually has information that I would want would help. If you need any clarification just put it in your question and check back for my Additional Details. Thank you(: what about a jailbreak or unlock? And are you sure it doesn't get rid of the Verizon because I just tried it and it says "No Service" where "Verizon Wireless" usually is

Boot into recovery mode, connect it to iTunes and restore

  • Cant erase all content and settings

Trying to sell this iphone as I have a new carrier but all buyers want it reset.  When it asks for my pw I put in the correct one but nothing happens, sometimes it says verification timed out.  I already changed my carrier and deactived this phone, not sure if thats the cause or not

    Hey Cassfromnv,
It sounds to me like this is the section that you're getting stuck on:
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
So if that isn't working, I would first make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi, and if you are - troubleshoot the internet connection on the device:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
And if that doesn't resolve the issue, you can try this:
If you're using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.
