HT5012 I just downloaded the latest update and now my iPad just defaults to my home screen. I was reading a book on overdrive and I can no longer access it. When I try Safari again it just defaults to my home screen. Help!
I just downloaded my latest update and my Ipad just defaults to my home screen. I was reading a book on Overdrive before t.he download and whe I now Tory to open it just. Takes me to mt home screen. The same with Safari. Any thoughts.
Try a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously you see the Apple logo and then release.

Photos taken by the iPhone, like any digital camera, should have been uploaded to your computer for safe keeping. Certainly before a major operation like a software update that wipes your phone in the process of updating. If they weren't, and they are not currently on your phone, then they're gone. You can try restoring from a recent backup, but any photos taken between the last backup and the present time will be gone.

That would be the indication of Recovery Mode. You can try instructions from this support document. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you attempt it a couple of times and it does not complete, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store, or Apple Service Provider to check for hardware problems. -
I just downloaded the latest update on I Pad 2 and now the screen shows the plug and I tunes? It will not start up. I have plugged it in and nothing. It is fully charged.
That means that it's gone into recovery mode. You will have to connect it by cable to your computer's iTunes and that should prompt you to reset it back to factory defaults, you can then restore to your backup (or just resync your content to it)

I have just tried to update iTunes to the latest software and now I keep getting error messages. I have uninstalled and downloaded the latest version without any success. Any advice please?
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time? -

Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique. -
The FireFoz menu button disappeared with the latest update and I can't fine bookmarks!
My Firefox just updated, and suddenly unless I hold the cursor ay the top of the screen there is no toolbar, but worse, even if I hover there, annoying to be sure, the Firefox button with the drop down menu containing my bookmarks and the 'find' utility has completely vanished!
OK - I experimented and found my own way out. I hovered at the top until the toolbar appeared, then in an empty spot I right clicked and when the drop down menu appeared I clicked on cancel full screen (or something like that - it won't duplicate now!) but it stabilized the toolbar and renewed the orange Firefox button.

It might mean that the phone is locked to the previous carrier - if you put your sim card in and this happens, could be that the phone is locked.
You would need to ask your sister to ask her friend if the phone was locked to the carrier she was using. If so and you want to use another sim card in the phone the original phone company will have to unlock the phone before this can be done.
To get the phone unlocked though your sister's friend would have to contact the phone company to get it unlocked and she would be the last person to use the phone. -
have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here. Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8. -

Before the reset quit Pages like this:
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
