HT5022 AirPort Utility 5.6 will not install on Lion

I have an older airport express and I'd like to be able to manage it the new Aiprot utulity is not compatible and the older version of Airport Utility 5.6 is not able to be installed on Lion.

Be sure that you are attempting to install the correct version (5.6) that is designed to work on OS X Lion. You can download it directly from Apple Support here.

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 will not install under Mountain Lion

I have older Base Station Extreme and Airport Express models that need to be looked after; however, the fix to install Airport Utility 5.6 under Lion will not work under Mountain Lion. The installer complains that "the version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported". So...suggestions?

That is correct. AirPort Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion will NOT install under OS X Mountain Lion. If you had it already installed, and then upgraded, it would have worked just fine.
One option, is to use Pacifist to extract the utility directly from the .dmg file.

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 would not install

Airport Utility 5.6 would not install on my MacBook Pro with 10.7.5 (Lion): "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."  Hello, Apple?

Use the workaround described in this thread: How do I configure an Airport Express when I get this message in Airport Utility? "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station."
Pay attention to the caveat in the final paragraph, restated here for emphasis:
Keep in mind that Apple's decision to abandon support for your original AirPort Express was for reasons known only to them. Remember that you are using obsolete equipment, should some future OS X feature not work for you.

  • HT5022 What works with Mountain Lion?  AirPort Utility 5.6 will not install on Mountain Lion.

What gives?  The AirPort Utility 5.6 wil not load on a computer running Mountain Lion.  Attempted both on an iMac and Macbook.

That is correct, the 5.6 version of the AirPort Utility will not install under Mountain Lion ... but it will run on it once installed. One option is to use a utility, like Pacifist, to extract and "install" the utility into the Utilities folder.

  • My airport express seems to no longer be supported by Apple. Was working fine, just blinking amber. So tried to update and reset, but update will not install with Lion? Im disgusted.

Airport express was blinking yellow. Tried to update, but my computer said update is not supported (yellow exclamation points). I have a mac pro with Lion and latest updates. So I reset express, yes that was a mistake because it was at least functioning on my stereo, now it does not function at all and shows on my wifi as "airport express", used to be labled "stereo". So it asks for an update, I download the update, but computer will not allow update to be installed. I will buy a newer one if I have to because I enjoy it's function, but I will be extremely disgusted with Apple to have to do so.

If you are using Lion...as you indicate...is it possible that you mistakenly downloaded the incorrect version of AirPort Utility?
Try the following version for Lion:
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 won't install.  Gets to the last step and fails.  Why?

I have an older Airport Extreme so I need to install Airport Utility 5.6 as 6 does not recognize it.  The download goes fine and installation proceeds until the last step of the installation (cleaning up) when it fails.  I'm using Lion.  Suggestions?

Apple will not let you install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Lion 10.7.4 (or 10.7.5) if you have updated the operating system.
You might want to study a workaround in this thread.

This is not officially supported by Apple, so it may or may not work for you.....if you want to give it a try.

  • Airport Utility 5.6 does not install on to OS 10.7.5

I am trying to setup my older model Airport Express A1084 so that it will work with my MacBook Pro.  I am currently running Mac OS X v. 10.7.5 and understand that I need to install Airport utility 5.6 on to my macbook in order to setup the Airport express.  Please let me know what I need to do to get this issue fixed.  Thank you.

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 does not fix the old Airport Express!

My old airport express does not work anymore - the Airport Utility 5.6 makes changes but after re-starting, the Airport Express cannot be found. Now I am forced to buy a new one. Not good (and sold out as many experienced the same apparently)

Do you get any sort of error message when you try to install, and if so what does it say?

  • Airport Utility 5.1 - DO NOT INSTALL

Sorry for sounding so alarming. I have been running Airport Utility 5.0 with my Airport Extreme-N and Airport Express. Airtunes has been working well with both.
However, as soon as I installed today's update version 5.1, it started cutting out again, dropping my shared library from the network and making Airtunes impossible to listen to.
I don't know why Apple is having so much trouble getting this software right. Anyway, I restored to version 5.0 and it's working fine again, although I need to keep the Utility open at all times to get Airtunes or Shared Libraries to work on my PC.

  • Airport 7.3.2 will not install

"An error occurred while updating the firmware." Great -- NOT! I don't really care to update, but every time my computer wakes up, AirPort Utility pops up asking to update the firmware and then proceeds to fail. It's like a bad Windows nightmare. This error message is bad. The fact that it pops up EVERY time I wake my machine up is very, very bad.
Any help would be appreciated. Even information on how to stop Airport Utility from checking for updates.

I have had the same problem with my AEBN since I got it. I am still on 7.2 as it always fails trying to update the firmware (tried all versions up to 7.3.2). I get an error dialog saying "An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again" Error -1. Thing is, I am directly connected using ethernet cable and Airport utility does seem to be connected okay. I have tried updating via WinXP and OSX PPC. No luck. Have tried hard reset.

  • HT1338 Mac App Store will not install Mountain Lion update

I am having an issue where I try to install the 10.8.4 update from the Mac App Store.  I click on the button and it says it needs to restart to install.  I tell it to restart and install but it does nothing.  I get the Mac App store back with it asking me to install the update again.  Looking at the infobox I see that I am still on 10.8.3.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Give this a try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • HP p1006 will not install on Lion 10.7

I have an HP Laserjet P1006 printer.  I have updated my software with software update several times.  I have also downloaded the updated drivers for HP from Apple dated April 2013, which I noticed in another posting.
When I attempt to add a new printer the OS recognizes a P1006 is connected to the USB port and indicates that the drivers are available from Apple.  But, any attempt to install the driver causes an internet search that ends with a failure message indicating that the driver software is not currently available from Apple. There appears to be no manual solution.  Every attempt to install the printer leads to the same combination of messages indicating the software is available from Apple but then a failure to retrieve it.
    Thanks!

  • White iMac (6.1) 24inch will not install mountain lion

I have a white 24 inch iMac (6.1) 2.33 Ghz intel core 2 duo, I purchased it just before the silver ones came out, don't remember when exactly  but its not compatible with Mountain Lion.
I find it very hard to believe that its obsolete so quick, I have the floating lamp iMac (best design) , G5 20 inch iMac and looks like this one is now joining them in the basement.

    Per Kappy:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Today's (June 12) Software Updates Will Not Install

Anyone else having this issue?  It downloads today's two updates to Snow Leopard (iTunes10.6.3 and AirPort Utility 5.6.1) and then proceeds with the progress bar which reaches a point 2/3 of the way and never progresses after 30 minutes.  At that time, it keeps alerting that the installations failed.  Anyone else having this problem?

Okay, the difference seemed to be that I could install them individually by manually downloading them and discover which of them is the culprit.  It is the AirPort Utility Update that is not installing.  I may try rebooting and installing but I want to wait a day or two to see if others are having this issue with update and Apple releases a revised one instead of installing something faulty.
    This is what it says:
I just found another thread regarding failure installing this update (but it was in the OS 10.7 Lion forum:

  • Itunes 10.4.1 does not install on Lion

    Hi
Has anyone figued out why the itunes 10.4.1 update will not install on Lion?
    thanks
    Mike

I had a similar problem. My iTunes didn't start automatically when I connected any of my devices after the upgrade to iTunes 10.4.1.
I found I had to add the iTunesHelper.app in System Preferences->Users & Groups under my account on the Login Items tab.
You have to navigate to it in finder, because I couldn't seem to do "Show Package Contents" on iTunes.app in the Applications folder from the file dialog you get when you hit '+'.
Once you have opened the package contents of the iTunes.app then the iTunesHelper.app is in Contents/MacOS. I just dragged and dropped into the Login Items window, then ticked it to start on login.
Note, this will only start it when you log in, to start it immediately just double click iTunesHelper.app in finder.
