HT5022 I cannot install airport utility 5.6 on mountain lion

I have Airport Express that I can use it for streaming music from my iMac and Sharing Printer for home network computers.
I cannot manage the Airport express with Airport Utility 6.1.
It says I need to use Airport utility 5.6 to manage Airport express.
However, I also cannot even install Airport utility 5.6 on Mountain Lion iMac.
Then, How can I use my Airport express?
Is anyone know how to do it?

i cannot install airport utility 5.6 onto my computer although i need it to configure an older airport express and base station

Here is my method.. the software is free that is required.. always a good point.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Cannot use airport utility 5.6 on mountain lion?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now cannot use my Airport Utility app. It tells me I need Airport Utility 5.6 now, but when I try to download it, it tells me that Mountain Lion does not support version 5.6
Does this mean I need to by a new Airport Base Station?

You can do the job also without any tools.
    cd ~/Downloads
    wget http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1482/en_US/AirPortUtility56.dmg
    hdiutil attach AirPortUtility56.dmg
    pkgutil --expand /Volumes/AirPortUtility/AirPortUtility56.pkg ~/Downloads/AirPortUtility56
    gunzip -c < ~/Downloads/AirPortUtility56/AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg/Payload |  tar -xvf -

  • Cannot install Airport Utility 5.6 update.

Cannot install Airport Utility 5.6 update.
Trying to install my Airport extreme.  Macbook is running OSX lion 10.7.5  (Does anyone know why or have had a similar problem) ? Please Help

AirPort Utility for Lion is for OS X version 10.7.2 only. It won't install on 10.7.5. It won't work for the newest 802.11ac AirPort Extreme either, so if you have one of them use the newest version of AirPort Utility.
You can use the following workaround to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on a Lion or Mountain Lion Mac:
Be sure to read the caveats at the end.
Lion / Mountain Lion's package installer will refuse to install superseded versions of AirPort Utility. Instead you will need to use a package extractor such as Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
The most recent version of AirPort Utility included with OS X should be used to configure 802.11n - capable AirPort Base Stations. Make no attempt to delete it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. Use the older version only as necessary for older AirPort Base Stations that cannot be administered any other way.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Lion / Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Keep in mind that Apple's decision to abandon support for the original AirPort Express and AEBS was for reasons known only to them. Remember that you are using obsolete equipment, should some future OS X feature not work for you.

  • HT5022 trying to install airport utility 5.6 but during installation it says cleaning up then the installation fails how can I install the software

I am trying to install airport utility on my mac with OS 10.7.5 to use my old airport express but during installation after it says cleaning up it stops installing with an error message an error occured.
The software is from the Apple site and all it says is to contact the developer but cannot find out who to contact

Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

  • Does Apple have plans to introduce AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mountain Lion?

Does Apple have plans to introduce AirPort Utility 5.6 support for Lion?  I ask as I have an older Airport Express that I would like to use for WDS and in using the AirPort Utility on my 10.7.4 Lion machine.  If AirPort Utility 5.6 is not supported on Lion, is it supported on Mountain Lion?
    Thank you.

  • Cannot install - Installer buttons not responding OSX Mountain Lion

When it ask me to click next, or do i want updates none of the buttons respond. So I cannot install it with the web installer? I click them and they show as if pressed, but nothing happens? Only way to install is use the offline installer. I have just done a clean install of Mountain Lion so it can't be my system!
Is the installer just busted or something else? See the retry button? Well it does not do anything, either by clicking or pushing enter. It presses and highlights like it is clicked but that's it. All I get the is the "funk" sound from my macbook when I press enter.

    1. Download the installer.
    2. Quit Safari
    3. Double click the installer from it's download location.
    4. Run it.
    Should work fine.

  • Installing Airport Utility 5.6.1 in order to configure older Airport Extreme/g model doesn't work as it won't install with OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Solution?

I need to configure Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11b/g but Airport Utility 6.3.1 will not work.

it recommends installing Airport Utility 5.6 which downloads as 5.6.1

  • HT4262 How to configure Airport Express (first generation) from Mountain Lion 10.8?

In OS X 10.8 / Mountain Lion, when I open the Airport  Utility (version 6.1) and attempt to configure my first generation Airport Express (b/g), the Airport Utility displays the error "This version of Airport Express cannot be configured with this version of Airport Utility.  Download Airport Utility version 5.6."  However, I cannot locate a download location for Airport Utility 5.6 which works on Mountain Lion (there is a version which works on Leopard and Snow Leopard).
Does this mean I can no longer configure my access point?
Or am I just overlooking the download location for Airport Utility 5.6 for Mountain Lion / 10.8?
    Thanks!

See this thread for more info:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19299375#19299375
The pertinent info is as follows:
The 2nd Generation Express was introduced mid-June this year, so if you purchased your Express before that time, you either have a 1st Generation Express, or an even older model that did not use the "Generation" nomenclature.
Please check the label on the side of the Express and look for the Model No.
If you have the "old" version, you will see Model No A1084 or A1088.
If you have the 1st Generation Express, the Model No will be A1264.
If you do have the older version of the Express, unfortunately Apple will not allow you to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on your Mountain Lion machine. In other words, the "older" versions of the Express are no longer supported in Mountain Lion.
There are some "unofficial" or "unsupported" ways to do this....with no guarantees....so I am not sure whether you want to contact Apple Support or an Apple Store to see if Apple plans to introduce AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mountain Lion, or whether you want to try an unsupported procedure to see if it might work.

  • Airport extreme A1143 problem with mountain lion

what airport extreme software version works with mountain lion

I have an A1143 here and it works just fine with AirPort Utility 6.2 in Mountain Lion.
It also works fine with AirPort Utility 5.6, which I have on another Mac here.
All you can really do is try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme to clear out all the old....and possibly conlficting.....settings and try to configure it again.
If you continue to experience problems, I would suspect a less than perfect AirPort Extreme....although I am sure that the seller claimed it was perfect.

  • HT5022 I've downloaded AirPort Util 5.6, in order to manage my Gen 1 Airport Express. But when I go to mount, it says it can't be installed as version of OSX (latest Mountain Lion) is not supported. Feels like Im back using Windows...

I've downloaded AirPort Util 5.6, in order to manage my Gen 1 Airport Express - because Airport Util 6.0 won't recognise it.
But when I go to mount, it says Airport 5.6 it can't be installed as my version of OSX (latest Mountain Lion) is not supported/does not support on 5.6.
Super unhelpful error messages bringing back memories of using Windows...
Anyone sussed this, or have Apple just fazed out the original Airport Express hardware on the sly?

Generation 1 AirPort Express is Model No A1264. Check the side of your Express to look for the model number there.  AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will configure this model.
More likely, you have an older "b/g" version of the Express. Apple started the "Generation" thing with "n" capable devices.  The Model number of your device is likely either A1084 or A1088. AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion no longer supports these older "b/g" devices.
If you have a Mac there running an earlier version of the operating system, you can use that to configure the Express.
Or, there is is workaround to install AirPort Utility 5,6 for Lion on Mountain Lion. See this article for details:

  • Cannot update Airport Utility

I have Airport Utility Version 5.1 (510.18). It tells me that a newer version (5.2.1) is available. Software Update does not find me any updates.
I downloaded it from Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007002formac.htm l)
However, the installation complains that, "You cannot install airport base station update 2007-002 on this volume." This update requires airport utility 5.0 to be installed." I clearly have a newer version of the utility (5.1) than what the update requires (5.0). Still, no go.
    Any ideas?

Try using Pacifist to install the updated software.

  • Can't install Airport Utility 5.6 in OSX 10.7.5

I have a 2005 Airport Extreme that I manage using an iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5. I recently tried to access my airport to check the IP address. Airport Utility could not access the Airport and told me that I needed to install Airport Utility 5.6 to access the Airport. I installed AU 5.6 and tried to access the Airport, but this time was told that this version of AU does not work with Mac OSX 10.7.5. So I downloaded AU 6.2. On this third attempt to access my Airport, I was told that this version of AU does not work with this Airport  and I need to install version 5.6. I'm stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a new Airport, that is).
    Thanks for the help,
    Paul

Make sure you download it from this URL
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
It should install without any difficulty.
AU 5.6.1 is for the latest AirPort Base Stations for systems running Snow Leopard.
    NB from the following
AirPort Base Station: How to set up and configure an 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station or AirPort Express in OS X Lion
If you are using OS X Lion and wish to set up or configure an older 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, or 802.11g AirPort Express, manually download and install AirPort Utility 5.6. AirPort Utility 5.6 can be used to configure earlier 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, and AirPort Express; it can also be used for 802.11n AirPort base stations.
To obtain and use AirPort Utility 5.6:
    Go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Search for AirPort Utility 5.6 and download it.
Allow AirPort Utility 5.6 to install.
Open AirPort Utility from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Note: If you are configuring or setting up a newer AirPort Base Stations that support 802.11n, you should use AirPort Utility 1.0 for iOS or AirPort Utility 6.0 for OS X Lion, or later.
You can have both AirPort Utility 6.0 and 5.6 in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
AirPort Utility 5.6 will appear in the /Applications/Utility folder as "AirPort Utility 5.6"
AirPort Utility 6.0 will appear as "AirPort Utility"

I can't install Airport Utility on OSX 10.8.2 so that I can install Airport Extreme.  Error message says the version of Mac OS X is not supported.  What can I do? Easily!

You have to install AirPort Utility from the disc if you're using Windows on your PC, so that's because Apple doesn't say it. Also, you could have bought an old AirPort Extreme that includes an older AirPort version for another Mac OS X
