I purchased the Iphoto APP for my Mac Book Pro. It will not open and tell me to get the library upgrader. I downloaded it but still am no able open the IPhoto without receiving this message: To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple. Help....I cannot open my pictures that were on the old IPhoto that came with my MacBook Pro.

after you download the updater you must then launch it and let it run - after that completes you launch the new version of iPhoto

To add to OT's advice:
You may need to delete your current iPhoto from the Applications folder, if it is a version of iPhoto '11, before the App Store will allow you to download it from the main page.
To locate iPhoto at the AppStore, open the "Featured" tab and enter "iPhoto" into the search field.

How can I get iphoto to display my library?

Here's the situation. My iphoto library is on an external drive and was running on an old version of iPhoto. Moved to a new imac and Mavericks and the new version of iPhoto. I have opened iPhoto and addressed it to my library on the external drive through the 'switch library' menu but it only comes up with the iPhoto start screen and no photos found. I have checked with the 'switch library' dialog and it is definitely the chosen library, I have tried opening with Alt key and re-choosing it but still the same. The library on the external HD now has the iPhoto icon instead of the old folder and has been aggregated into one package rather than the visible file structure of old but I have looked in 'view package contents' and everything is there ready to go. Have tried iPhoto library manager but it says the library is fine and does not need rebuilding for the new iPhoto.
iPhoto is definitely addressed to this external library. The library is definitely intact and modified by iPhoto. Why can it not display my photos?

How can i get iphoto 9?

I am running OSX 10.5.8 and I have iphoto 7.1.5 I just spent many hours creating a calendar. When I went to purchase it, I got an error message stating that apple doesn't support calendar purchases in iphoto 7 any longer, and I need to upgrade to iphoto 9 at the mac app store. Since I am not running mavericks or yosemite I don't have the mac app store, so how can I get iphoto 9, and will it even work with 10.5.8?

I got one of the new iPhone 6s (the smaller version) and it's been working great. I was able to restore an old backup from my 4S and transferred everything over. iTunes recognizes the new phone and I've had no problems bringing files within apps on the phone to the computer like before. HOWEVER, iPhoto doesn't even recognize the phone so I can't import new photos off the phone. How can I get iPhoto to recognize it? I tried searching for the phone as a drive via iPhoto and that didn't work either.

So says my computer. Honestly, I'm not tech-wavy in the least so I just take its word for things.

iPhoto on the iPad and iPhoto on the Mac are completely different programs. The Mac version cannot run on the iPad, because the operating systems and the processors are different. Don't expect, that iPhoto on the iPad will be able to do the same things as your iPhoto for Mac, pr that you can keep the two iPhoto libraries in sync.

My MBP is indeed non-retina.
I also have Apple care support for 3 years
I was in touch with Apple suport since last week. Response I got on Phone was pretty astounding (waiting email confirmation). They say following
- Apple support does not provide such service of upgrading hard drive
- Doing it yourself means you will lose warranty (due to nature of operation one would need to perform on the computer)
- None of authorised delars will provide such a service
So as such there apparantly is no way to get your hard drive upgraded without losing warranty.
Leaves me a bit perplexed
I do understand MBP retina (or iPAD / iPhones) are manufactured in way that makes it technically impossible to upgrade certain parts. But why non-retina MBP?
What do you all think? is this reasonable? is this what a MBP customer would expect?

For me, iTunes always opens to whatever I had selected previously when it was closed.
In other words, if I had Apps selected when I closed iTunes, the next time I opened iTunes it would be on Apps.

I have a new iPhone 4s. I take a picture. I edit it and save it to the iPhone. Then, I sync my phone with my Mac, open iPhoto. Only the original photos appear, not the one I edited and saved. 8 MP is the resolution of the camera sensor. Images are compressed when stored so quite a bit smaller. The compression ratio depends on the level of detail in the image.

How did you delete it? (not a silly question)
If all you've done is removed the icon from the Dock, go to the Applications folder, find iPhoto and drag it's icon to the Dock, being careful not to release the mouse until the other icons in there move out of the way for it. (if you release too early, you'll leave the application on the Desktop and will have to drag it back to Applications and try again.)
The icons in the Dock are only aliases, so can be replaced easily.
If on the other hand you've somehow deleted it from the Applications folder, there are two possibilities -
If the trash hasn't been emptied, open it, right click on the iPhoto item and select 'Put Back'.
If the trash has been emptied, you'll need to reinstall it from the software restore disc (disc 2 of the grey discs that came with the Mac), or from the iLife DVD if that's where you installed it from, or if on Lion, I believe you'll need to go the App Store and re-download it (but someone may correct me on that).
