HT5037 How to use iPhoto Library Upgrader

How to use iPhoto Library Upgrader

Hello Terence,
sorry that I come here with a completly different thema but I follow your answers since long and they are always excellent! And I do not know who could help... as I can not find the solution in Apple Support Communities.
I am very afraid with my MacBook Pro: midd. 2012
Prozessor: 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB
Software: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Kernel-Version: Darwin 12.5.0
iPhoto 11, Version: 9.4.3 (720.91)
iPhone 4s, 64GB Version:7.0.2 (11A501),
Symptoms:
1. I have notice three days ago that Spotlight allways answers I should go to the web when I look for data in my computer. It seems that Spotlight can not find anything from my computer.
2. Timemachine has no data before the 28th. January 2014 (!?) No idea why this happens
3. In Finder window when I go to "Alle meine Daten"(= All my data) there is absolutely nothing there...it means 0 objekts are there.
4.In  Systemeinformationen (=Systeminformations) if I go to Software and then to Programs... there is nothig there because the Plug-In do not react quick enough (Das Plug-In hat beim Sammeln dieser Informationen nicht schnell genug reagiert). I am asking me which Plug-In it is and where to find it...
5. On my iPhone the Photo-stream suddenly shows only 110 fotos from Dezember on, but in My MacBookPro the iPhoto Stream shows of course the lasts 1000 ones...from 25.01.2013 to 03.02.14 as it did allways before.
I am not going to sync anything until I discover what is going on...
6. On my Contacts suddenly appeared the link address of a "game" in my own card ( both in iCloud and Lokal AddressBook)... and I have never ever played an online game (!?). So I deleted this two links as I discovered them some days ago...
I do not know what is going wrong here but I'm afraid to loose all my data in the computer, so I am making a secure copy in an external drive right now...
Could it be a virus inside... a software problem may be...?
The mayor  Problem is how to get the programms to work (Spotlight, etc), or how to repair them.
I'm trying to find something wrong in the Protocols I have here, for example
- the Repair protocol for users from 27.01.2012 ( /Users/Begona/Library/logs/fsck_hfs.log).
- the Datasystem-Reppairprotocol from 01.02. 14 (/var/log/fsck_hfs.log)
- the Installationsprotocol from 04.02.14...
but I am really lost.
Thank you very much for reading this, help would be high appreciated

  • I updated my MAC to Mavericks and purchased iPhoto 9.5.  Installed new version of iPhoto and installed using iPhoto Library Upgrade as directed.  Each time I try open iPhoto I receive the same message.

I updated my MAC to Mavericks and purchased iPhoto 9.5.  Installed iPhoto; however when I try to open iPhoto I receive The folling, "To open your library with this version of  iPhoto, it first must be prepared.  To prepare use iPhoto Library Upgrade".  I have have downloaded and installed the upgrader, with no success.
I need to add that I am a senior and am not as computer savey as I should be.  Therefore, i really need step by step help.

After you download the upgrader, you will need to go to your Applications folder and find the Utilities folder.
In there will be the iPhoto Library Upgrader (version 1.1). Open the application and follow the instructions. Should get you going.

  • Can't open iPhoto after using iPhoto library upgrader

I used the iPhoto library upgrader today, hoping that I could then use a newer version of iPhoto.  I have iPhoto 6.6 I think.  But now iPhoto won't open, so I can't see any of my photos.  Where can I download a newer version of iPhoto so I will be able to see my photos again?  My iMac is running OS X 10.7.5 and cannot be upgraded to a newer operating system as it is a late 2006 iMac.  Please help, I am so upset at losing all my family photos I can barely type this.

    1. Make a back up first thing.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2. If you have iPhoto 6 why are you using the upgrader?

  • HT5037 What is the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool?  Should not need it, because installed Photo 9.5.1 three days ago, AND my iphoto will not open. The message says if I have v8.x or later, I don't need this tool.

Why is my iPhoto 9.5.1 blocked?
Message on pop up screen says I need the Library Upgrader tool, when in the very discription of it: "If your library is from iPhoto (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool."

What version of iPhoto did you have prior to upgrading to iPhoto 9.5.1?  The following is from this download page: iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1
This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto.
So if you previous version of iPhoto was 7 or earlier you need to download (it installs in the Applications/Utilities folder), launch and apply it to your iPhoto Library before opening the library with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • IPhoto is asking me to use iPhoto Library Upgrader, downloaded it and it wont let me select iPhoto or the libraries on my desktop.

I have iPhoto 9.5.1. The other day I tried to open an old library that I moved from another laptop. Since then, I have been getting this error message. I have downloaded iPhoto Library Upgrader and it wont let me select my 9.5.1 version of iPhoto or the old library on my desktop.

You do not need the iPhoto library upgrader for a library created by iPhoto 9.5.1 - only for libraries form iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) and older
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto '08 (v7.x) or earlier so that you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. If your library is from iPhoto '09 (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool.

  • HT5037 I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open

I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open. can anyone solve this?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to use iphoto library in windows 8

Hi guysI have macbook pro 15", early 2011, 10.8.4 mountain lion OS, and Im using iphoto as my default photo editor/viwer. recently I had problem with macbook pro so temporary I purchased lenovo laptop, windows 8. my question that is there any way I can access my iphoto library (as I put it in external HD) and which software I can use for this purpose.
thanks with regards, wait for your response

You may be able to view your photos from windows if you have special software that allows you to read Mac formatted disks - but you can not properly access your iPhoto library - and finding the photo you want and the correct version of it is difficult - you really can not use the iPhoto library from a PC
the iPhoto library MUST be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) which the PC can not even use without special software - be sure that you have not put your iPhoto library on an external drive formatted for the PC or you will have problems

  • How to use iPhoto Library in non Apple applications.

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Mac OS and love iPhoto. However, when I try to access my iPhoto library in Microsoft word, or on shutterfly or other applications I cannot access it. My migrated photos from my old PC are accessible, but iPhoto library is not. Can someone please advise? Thank you kindly.

The problem is that it's too straightforward.
In Facebook or whatever click on Open or Attach or what ever button you use get the photo up there.
That give you a window that looks like this:
See the word Photos in the red box indicated by the arrow? It is possible that you might have to scroll a little to see it... Click on that word and then you get this:
In other words: there's your entire iPhoto Library, all of it. Click on the shot or shots you want and click on open. That's it. Your photos on your website or facebook or in whatever app you used and you didn't even have to leave that app.

  • HT5037 I've downloaded iPhoto Library upgrader and run the install but can't find the app to run it. Consequently, I cannot open iPhoto. I upgraded from 7 to the latest version to get my photo books feature back. Has Apple been bought out by Microsoft?

Please help... cannot access my photos...

More details would help more then snit remarks about Apple being bought out by Microsoft.
Such as if you have relocated iPhoto from /Applications.

  • IPhoto 9.4.3 won't launch. iPhoto Library Upgrader doesn't help.

    I am going around in circles trying to get iPhoto 9.4.3 to launch. When I try to launch it I get the following message;
To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple.
Clicking on the Learn More button takes me to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5037
After downloading the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool and launching it from the Utilities folder it simply hangs (greys out) and I have to force quit as it says that iPhoto is not reponding.
When the updater starts it says it is preparing photos from iPhoto 7. I never/rarely use iPhoto but I need it to select images for another application (iWeb).
Any idea how to get iPhoto to work? Can I just remove all the files in the iPhoto Library?
    Thx

    Hi Larry,
    As I said; I already tried the option/command procedure [holding down both keys simultaneously] and I get the same notice;
To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple.
Thanks for your suggestions but it appears you haven't read my original post where I state that I have already downloaded and tried the iPhoto Library Manager and iphoto just hangs so that I need to force quit the application.
Is there anything else that can be tried?
    Thx

  • HT5037 How do I use the iPhoto Library Upgrader? I've downloaded it, now what??

I have just downloaded the iPhoto Library Upgrader how do I use it to upgrade my Photo Library?

Just open the app and follow the steps. It should look for your library and upgrade it. Make a backup of the iPhoto library before using the application

  • HT5037 I have downloaded the Library Upgrader (twice!) but Spotlight can't find it and there are no instructions here on how to use it.Kludge!

I am trying to use my existing iPhoto Library with my new MacBook Pro, and I keep getting a message "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared." I then go to HT5037, which tells me to download the iPhoto Library Upgrader. I do that and install the Upgrader, which then appears nowhere on my HD and can't be found by Spotlight, but even if it were, nowhere are there instructions for using the phantom upgrader. Anyone have any advice (other than switch to Lightroom)?

It's in Applications/Utilities. Double click on it to run it.

  • HT5037 I have installed the iPhoto Library upgrade, which confirms it was successfully installed, however when ever I try to open iPhoto 11, it refers me back to the bloody library upgrade again, so I can't use iPhoto any more.

I have installed the iPhoto Library upgrade, which confirms it was successfully installed, however when ever I try to open iPhoto 11, it refers me back to the bloody library upgrade again, so I can't use iPhoto any more.

Thanks, it worked first time that  I double clicked as you suggested.
Why do Apple make it so hard to upgrade some programs?  They could make the follow through instructions a lot clearer.
Now I have it open-  it works and.....................  it does look pretty neat.
