HT5052 manual download and update of ios 5.01

I've been prompted to upgrade my iPod 4th gen to IOS 5.01 each time I connect it to my PC. I've chosen to just download the update and install it later. My question is what is the name of the filename downloaded and where can I find it on a Windows PC? Once located, how do I go about updating my iPod with this downnloaded file? Thanks for any assistance.

After downloading the firmware, you can shift-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) theRestore or Update buttons in iTunes. A file dialog will open and let you choose the downloadedipsw-file.

Go to the iTunes app, and under "More", you will probably see something there that is pending download. Nothing will be able to be downloaded until the iTunes queue clears.

The phone just went blank on me while the download anf update was running, I can now only see the iTunes emblem and a cable plug in on the screen as if the download is still running

Thanks Chris for your advice. I have done the restoration from both the device and computer as a new device but it doesn't help. Even I have restored my device to the factory settings with standard apps in it without installing any other additional apps, the phone heats up & I have to recharge at least 3 times per day. This is abnormal to me.

i just noticed that there is no manual update file for ACR 7.2.
most of our company computers are offline.
how should we update them without a manual update file?

adobes says the final ACR 7.2 update is available through the CS6 update.
well that is of no help when you have offline computers.
i hope this update will be released as manual update file too?! any infos?

Very helpful thanks. I picked this up from Victoria Bampton's reply on another thread. I mentioned in that the fact that the updater also updated some other features - I saw this because it worked on my MacBook but NOT my iMac - but I do not know what they were. I think one was related to Bridge. Is there any way of obtaining these other updates directly?
Any ideas as to what stops the updater from working correctly?

It may just be a glitch. Try going into the app store signing out, then sign back in and see if it clears up.

I too have tried the latest iTunes (12.1.1.4) in Win7. I did a search for latent drivers as you noted but found none. I am glad it worked for you - I'm still no-joy at this point. I'm able to install AMDS over and over again, without issue - it just doesn't start then iTunes launch fails with Error 7. I have to manually remove it.
I am able to connect my iPhone via USB cable and access my photo storage on the phone. I am just not able to install iTunes anymore. I have attempted resolution to this issue for almost two months now. Until that time, I was content with what was installed. It was only when the proverbial update box appeared that I attempted to 'update' my iTunes. WHAT A MISTAKE putting blind faith into an Apple request to update. If you are trying to update your iPhone over-the-air rather than through iTunes, and you are having issues with installing it, then I'd like you to please follow the steps outlined below.
If you get a message that "an error occurred downloading iOS," try again later. If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
Update does not complete
If you're installing the update and the progress bar appears to move slowly, be patient. The time an update takes depends on the size of the update and the number of files on the device.
When you're updating over the air, keep your device connected to a power source so that it doesn't run out of power. If your device does run out of power, connect it to a power source and turn on the device to let the update or restore complete.
If the update never completes and the progress bar hasn't moved for an extended time, try restarting your device. If you still see the issue after you restart, see what to do if your device appears frozen or won't start.

Hook your iPad into your computer and open iTunes. GIve it a couple of minutes to get going, then click on the name of your device, then the main summary page. In the middle you'll see a software update button/area. Click on check on updates and update and follow the prompts.
it SHOULDN"T redownload but if you've already got it should just install.
I'd suggest that you first do a complete sync before you update, that way you have a good backup to restore your device from if the upgrade doesn't go perfect.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If your back up was successful, then just resync. The books are there. If they are not, simply go back to the bookstore and redownload them for free.

Yes. I seem to have fixed it, but not really. I erased all music from phone, and then manually managed a resynced eveything I wanted back on there. Interstingly, it didn't work the first two time and said (waiting to make changes) so I was freaking out. But the third time was the ticket and now we are good. Unfortunately, there is a bug, and until there is a real fix, my music that I have in itunes on my computer is not easy to get to the phone. It seems that many people have had the exact same issue since the updates. Hopefully it will fix itself in the next update. Thanks for help though.

iTunes Support wasn't of any use to me.
I have also been having another problem - with BBC iPlayer and other video streaming not working due to insufficient bandwidth, despite my overall download speed being consistently around 50Gb. This is also affecting AppleTV downloads
I am using Virgin Media as my ISP, and was wondering whether you do as well. This might be the common thread.
