HT5129 Migrated photos won't open iPhoto [9.3.2] in folder "From Mobile Me"

Albums from Mobile Me appear in iTunes [9.3.2] folder  "From Mobile Me" however the photos in one of the albums won't open. They show up in thumb nails but when they are clicked on a black screen appears. Pictures in other albums open without a problem. Help plse!

Thanks. Once ImageCapture had accessed the photos, THEN iPhoto began to pick up the data, so I was ultimately able to do both. It only worked with the cable, though, not the card readers. Weird.
And I really appreciate the ImageCapture tip. Any idea why it worked?

Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos.  Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?

But have you run the the iPhoto Library upgrader? It is installed in Applications > Utilities. Launch it and direct it to your iPhoto library.
Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from?
The upgrader is only necessary, if you have been  running iPhoto7.1.2 or earlier.

  • Thumbnail is fine, but photo won't open

On my first gen iPhone, with the latest firmware update, 2.x.x, I have the following problem.
A percentage of my photos won't open. All of the thumbnails are fine. But when I open the photo to full screen, I just get a black screen. I can select to go to the next or previous photo, but only some of them will view full screen, the rest are black. The ones I take with the camera all will open. Its just the ones that I import from iTunes/iPhoto. I also have an iPod classic, and all of these photos open fine on it. So not sure what the problem is.

Here are a couple of articles from the apple support website that might help out.

You might need to reset and or restore the iphone to resolve any software issues.

I could use iPhoto images in Media Browser before the update - is this happening to anyone else?
I have restarted... no change. Maybe I'll try opening and closing iPhoto once.

    Thanks for the reply.
I am on Pages 2 also... Hmmm, Perhaps I just don't know what I am doing - New to Pages. I see my Library, Last Roll and all my albums in the Media Browser but when I double click one of them nothing happens - Is there some other way to open them?

  • I have ipad wi-fi cellular.  Photos won't open when I insert the SD Reader.  I tried syncing photos through itunes and that didn't work either. What do I need to do to get photos on ipad?

Have ipad wi-fi cellular.  Photos won't open when I insert the SD Reader.  I also can't download photos from pc through itunes.  Need help getting pictures on ipad.

For the SD card, are you copying the photos onto it yourself from your computer ? If you are then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
In terms of syncing photos, what happens when you try ? You should be able to sync photos by connecting your iPad to your computer and selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side selecting the Photos tab - using that tab you should be able to select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • My i photo won't open.....8/27/11 11:26:24 PM     iPhoto[746]     *** NSMapInsert(): attempt to insert notAKeyMarker.

i try to open iphoto, which it does, but than the white wheel just keeps turning. i have downloaded a kinda default (?) of iphoto, and it shows all my photos as being there and in the correct albums. any help would be greatly appreciated. i am new to mac also

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Photo won't open - but can see thumbnail

    Hello all,
First off the bat, this is my mother's computer and I have no idea what to do with a mac, I've always used a PC. I've asked her about it & she's looked into it with me but we can find no answer. Mom had updated iPhoto to 5.0.4, and wanted to buy me a photo album as a gift. I could design it, blah blah blah, long story shorter - While saving an edit, iPhoto froze & I had to close it. When I opened it again, I have the tumbnail of the picture I was editing, but the picture itself won't open, and in the album it's got one of those beautiful exclamation points over it. In the information box, other pics have a size of 2201x1709, but this one is 0x0. I really liked this picture. What in the world is going on?
Oh, and after all this happened, Mom told me that I should have duplicated all the pictures. I still don't understand that. HELP!!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I can't tell you that for sure. I am guessing that the edited photo was not saved, but the original was still there in the iPhoto Library (not visible to you though)
You can navigate to the proper folder in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to check and see if it is there. Do not touch or move anything though, just look and see if it is there.
The following link will show how the Library is organized in the Finder. If you know the year and day the photo was taken it should be easy to find.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.

  • New MacBook Pro won't open iPhoto 09

I have a new 15" MacBookPro and cannot open iPhoto. The message reads "You can't open the application iPhoto because it is not supported on this type of Mac." I used Migration Assistant which moved over the applications yesterday -- took over 5 hours and didn't move the documents at all.
After reading in some posts somewhere that iLife '09 needed to be purchased separately, I took out my iLife family pack, and ran the install for it on the new MacBook Pro.
I tried to install iLife Support 9.0.3 but got a message that "This update does not need to be installed. A newer version of this software is already installed." Garageband boots up fine.
There is only one iPhoto application installed and it is version 8.1.2. Says it's an Application (PowerPC)
Is my Mac defective?? Is there an explanation or a fix for this?

Why did you do that? iLife (including iPhoto) comes preinstalled on all new systems - moving iPhoto from another computer is not necessary and does not work
After reading in some posts somewhere that iLife '09 needed to be purchased separately, I took out my iLife family pack, and ran the install for it on the new MacBook Pro.
Did you delete the iPhoto receipts ("your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) prior to doing this install?

    Very doubtful
Is there an explanation or a fix for this?
It is possible that the iPhoto application is just fine and it is only your library - to test that depress the option key and launch iPhoto - create a new library and import a few photos into it and test it - if that works then the application is ok - to switch back to the main library you will need to repeat the option - launch.
Once you have the iPhoto application straightened out, It it likely that your iPhoto library did not transfer correctly - Migration assistance does not always do a good job on the iPhoto library - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Can't see all my photos when I open iphoto

I just downloaded a bunch of pictures to iphoto, but I cannot see them when I start iphoto. I know they are in iphoto b/c I can find them when I go to the pictures/iphoto folder in the HD, but they just don't appear anywhere when I open iphoto. Any suggestions?
    thanks.

After the import, were you ever able to see those photos from inside iPhoto? Did the app crash during or after the import?
Some ways to look for them:
Click "Last Roll" in the Source Pane (left column). You should see the photos from the most recent import.
Each import creates a Film Roll. Select "Library" from the Source Pane, turn on "Film Rolls" in the View menu, and look for the roll that was imported on the date in question. The film roll will have the same name as the folder which contains these photos inside the iPhoto Library folder, which is what you were looking at when you located your pictures in the Finder.
When you found those files using the Finder, did you change anything inside the iPhoto Library folder? If you renamed the folder there, it would cause iPhoto to lose track of the photo's location. If you did make changes inside that folder, you'll have to change it back to the way it was.
    Regards.

  • Photo won'[t open in elements 5

i have been successfully using elements 5 since it came out ( last with xp). I recently upgraded to vista, downloaded/installed the patch and have been successfully using elements 5 for about a month. however now it has started to open as normal but when I try to open a photo it just keeps acting like it is loading but the photo doesn't open( have left it go on for 5-10 min). if I go to the top bar (for closing etc) it stops responding. I can open the same files from lightroom 2 ( had that about 3+ weeks) but if I try to export them to elements they won't open there, it just keeps acting like it is working( it worked fine before). this is for all photos, those on my c and external drives( can open them otherwise just not in elements)
I have tried to repair elements, uninstalled and reinstalled twice and still can't open any photos. any ideas? a few days ago i installed the lightroom 2 update( .1 i think) but the lightroom seems to be working fine so don't really think that is doing it..otherwise haven't downloaded anything new. Thanks

    Hi Janet,
Are you working on Editor/Organizer. You might want to delete the preferences file - you can do this by launching the welcome screen, hold Shift+Alt+Control and click on Editor button. You would be prompted to delete the preferneces file and click ok. It might now work for you.
You mentioned that Elements worked fine for a month and is not working now?
Since you have tried re-installing and freezing error help, and the above workaround does not work for you, you could try doing a system restore which should help.
    Cheers.

  • I-Photo Won't Open (since upgraded to version 6)

Since I bought iLife '06, whenever I try to open iPhoto the only thing I get is it's menu, but not the main window. Intuitively I clicked on "About i-Photo" and got the "unexpected quit" message, and then chose "relounch", only to get the same situation. This time I chose "try again" on the unexpected quit window, and then - and only then - the application opend for real, with all my photos, albuns, etc…
Ever since it first happened I have been performing this very annoing "3 part lounching" of the application, and almost every time it asks me to "rebuild the cache".
On top of all that, when I quit the application I get a message saying "new settings were made for this application. Use the new ones or remain with the original settings?" - although it makes no difference whatsoever, because whenever I try to launch the application I'm back to square one!
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way around it?

    Bruno,
First create a new user and see if the new user can open iPhoto fine.
If the new user can, then there is something amiss with your users files.
You can also Option launch iPhoto with the Option key held down until you get a message window. In that window choose to create a new library, name it, and see if the new library will open the iPhoto window for you.
If not, Close iPhoto and option launch again, this time choosing to open another library, then navigate to your original library and highlight it and click open.
Still problems, try a cache cleaner
    Tiger Cache cleaner
    OnyX
    Still no go...
    To reinstall iPhoto...
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash.
Insert your iLife CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. You will have to kee p on going through the steps of the install before you get to the screen where you can choose a custom install.
    Install iPhoto.
Run Software Update and update iPhoto.
    If this doesn't work
Download and install the Combo updater for 10.4.6
let me know how it goes as you go through the list of things to try

  • I photo won't open after updates.

I photo will not open. Maverick installed then downloaded i hoto update 9.5.1, will not repair library permissions.

If other fixes fail you might try this:
1 - be sure to have a backup of the library.
    2 - download and launch  http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/BatChmod.
3 - click on the File button, locate and select your iPhoto Library.
4 - check the Unlock and Apply to enclosed checkboxes.
5 - make no changes to the other checkboxes
6 - click on the Apply button.

  • I photo won't open pictures or events

When I click on iphoto the tool bar comes up, but not my pcitures. When I look at it in applications, there is a big blue circle next to the name (on the left). I know the pictures are there because it says that there are 199mb being used for them. How do i get rid of this blue circle and open my pictures? What is the big blud circle for> What does it mean?

there is a big blue circle next to the name (on the left)
Next to what, the iPhoto application?
Do you get the left hand pane with the Events and Photos icon at the top when you try to open iPhoto? Do you also get a blank window on the right where thumbnails should be?
If so then it sounds like you've damaged the library. Make a temporary backup of the library and run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
    1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photos won't open using individual URLs

Hello. I have this photo page in my site. Every time I double-clicked one picture it opens the slideshow page (where I can see the photos appear one at a time), so there, I try to copy that photo URL and open it in a new window, but that won't take me to the specify picture I wanted, it would take me to the page where photos are displayed as thumbnails. Can I actually open individual photos using their own URL? or I am doing something wrong?
    Any help is appreciated.

Bring up the larger photo and Control-click on it. In the Contextual menu will the be the option to copy the URL for that photo.
