HT5137 I just got a new ipod touch and tried to sync my music to the new ipod. but my computer stated that I needed to update a new file to my new ipod. when I tried it failed. now its on ipod recovery mode and are unable to stop this. what can i do?

You cannot. If it is in recovery mode, the data is already gone.

Usually this error occurs when trying to downgrade the iOS or in a previously jailbroken phone. In this case, you cannot get help here. The internet and Google are your best friends.

Could any of the music have been sourced on an external USB drive or a network drive? In iTunes, go to one of the songs that won't sync. Bring up the info page, and look at the location of that song on the disk. Does that file and path exist? That could be your problem, especially if they were on a USB drive you forgot about.

Look in your Applications folder for the new version.
Remove the old icon from the Dock and drag down the new one for ease of use.

You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.

Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.

Okay so I plugged my iPod into my computer today and it said there was a new update available. I clicked update, but after it finished syncing/updating it went into recovery mode. It says I need to restore the iPod, but everytime I restore it, it just goes back into recovery mode. Iv'e tried shutting it off but it doesn't help

Hey, i've tried connecting my ipod to my laptop itunes and it's not working. My laptop shows it's connected but itunes isn't showing it's there. i've tired reinstalling, taking itunes off rebooting the laptop and putting it back on. I don't know how to get it working. Plus on top i restarted my ipod and the choice between wifi and connecting to itunes i'm choosing itunes but it's still not showing up. I can use the help for the Windows 7 and ipod touch. I have more music in my iTunes library than I want on my iPod touch. The solution used to be simple: I simply check off the albums etc. that I want to sync. Now when I do that it goes through all the sync motions but nothing really happens. The same music that was on the iPod stays there and but the songs I've selected to sync don't appear.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
