"It's vital to research your computer purchases before you make them ... especially when you spend so much money, you need to be sure it'll work with the devices that you already have."
I agree with you...to a point. I knew my 13-inch aluminum had no firewire, but I had no idea Apple would leave me high and dry by creating a product that would not accept DV video by any means. That's like producing a computer without a headphone jack. It's unconscionable for a company that promotes easy video editing and creation as one of their primary selling points to put a product like this out there. I have iMovie and I can't even use it?? Who thought THAT was a good idea? I upgraded to Mac for a reason and I'm deeply disappointed.

  • Hi, what's the best way to transfer content from a Sony dcr-sx31 to an iMac

Hi looking for some help please. I want to transfer video from my Sony dcr-sx31 to an iMac for editing and creating DVDs. I've heard that this is not straight forward so hoping someone  can give me the best approach or some top tips please

Thanks for the update. The labeling around here is about as counter-intuitive as they could make it. This forum is for original iMacs with  PowerPC ("PPC") processors that were made from 1998 to late 2005. All iMacs since then have Intel processors--very different beasties--so they get a separate forum here:
    iMac (Intel)
That where you find your gurus when you get your new iMac. Typically, forums for older models like this get less traffic and therefore fewer eyeballs than forums for newer products,
However, you may get faster response for contacting Sony. I recall their Mac support being hit or miss depending on the product line.
    for editing and creating DVDs
Also note that new iMacs come with iLife BUT iLife no longer includes the DVD creator program iDVD on preinstalled bundles. Apparently people have been able to get it by calling Apple and protesting that there computer did not ship with all the components that are in the iLife Boxed set. YMMV

  • I need to transfer video from a Sony DCR-TRV530 to iMovie11.

I have successfully transfered my Sony-produced video tape to my older iMac, but now that I have changed to a new iMac with OS 10.8.3, I can no longer do the transfer. Apple's guidance has not helped. What do I do now?

This camera works with Macs. All DV format cameras work, but Apple does not list them individually.
It depends which new Mac you have. You need a Firewire Port. Newer Macs would have Firewire 800. However, the very newest Macs do not have Firewire, but have Thunderbolt instead. For these you need a Firewire cable plus a Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter.
So, if you Mac has Firewire, you need a 4 pin to 9 pin cable like this.

If your Mac has only Thunderbolt, you need the 4 pin to 9 pin cable mentioned above PLUS an Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter.

  • I cannot transfer data from my external hard drive to my new mac

I had to get a new hard drive put into my macbook pro because it was failing. So, I moved all my data onto an external hard drive so I would not lose anything. But now I cannot get iphoto or imovie back onto my computer. It says I cannot open it because it is a time machine back up. I don't want to have to purchase iPhoto and iMovie again just because I had to replace my hard drive.

Copying the files directly from a Time Machine backup may be possible but I don't recommend it. Your new hard disk is essentially a new computer to Time Machine, and it will have problems understanding where to put the individual files. What you're trying to do is just not the right way to go about it.
To restore from a Time Machine backup, boot Lion Recovery and select "Restore from Time Machine backup".

  • I can not transfer video from my sony handycam DCR-HC36 to ivideo in imac

I can not transfer video from my sony handycam DCR-HC36 to ivideo in imac. Help!  THANK-YOU!!

Take both back to the salesman in the store and ask him to show you how it works, or, if he can't, then maybe you want to make an exchange or return. Unfortunately, it appears that the salesperson didn't look carefully enough at the camera specs to realize that the MacBook doesn't have the video input needed. You can capture the audio from the camera through the MacBook audio line-in, but that's about it.
You need some kind of USB TV/tuner input device that has the plugs needed to connect to the camera and import the video into the MacBook. Cameras with FW ports allow direct uploading of the digital video to the computer.
An external DVD drive that can load the miniDVD's in its tray is another possibility.

  • How do I transfer film from my iPhone to my iPad

How do I transfer film from my iPhone to my iPad ?

You cannot transfer a movie from your iPhone to your iPad. You have to do it via iTunes on your Mac/PC or if available in your country via iTunes in the Cloud (that means you can download former store purchases again directly on another device).

  • Cannot Transfer Phonebook from N95 to JVC KD-AVX33...

Cannot Transfer Phonebook from N95 to JVC KD-AVX33 bluetooth stereo.
I just got a N95 and a JVC KD-AVX33 Bluetooth stereo... is supposed to have the capability of tranfering phonebook, messages, call history, etc. And for my N95 it only works to answer calls and make calls putting the numbers in.
I tried a Sony Ericcson and all those features work. It's only my N95 Compatibility.
Anyone has an idea on how to transfer the phonebbok to my stereo or how to make my N95 compatible with all those features.
    Thanks.

After 4 days of continuous trying, i managed to copy my phonebook from my N95 to the JVC KD-AVX44 (this is the new version of the AVX33)
I copied my phonebook to the memory card by entering contacts, mark all then copy to Memory card.
now if you enter tools - file manager (push right to select memory card not the phone memory)there will be a folder simply called other. in this folder will be another folder called contacts which cotents speaks for itself.
now on the unit in bluetooth select settings - add phonebook
it will ask for a pin code, in this case keep it as 0000 and hit enter! the unit will now say recieving! now this is the bit i kept getting stuck on when the unit states recieving, its like its open and ready to be set info manually! now in your phone in the contacts folder mentioned above, mark all contacts to be sent, then in options select send - via bluetooth it should now find the unit enter 0000 for the pin and it will then send the info over.
the problem i had before was i had conection fine but could just not add the phonebook, when ever i went to add phonebook it just disconected from my N95 which confused me as it didnt make sense? but i realise now that will disconect as its ope to recieve any phoebook you send while its i the "recieving" status.
i was expected the uit to locate my phoe and recieve it itself but its the other way round!
if this works for you please reply here so i can gather info and post on other forums.
    thanks,
    Behnam

  • I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone. The iPhone only accepts transfers from the original iTunes PC.

I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone 4S. The iPhone will only accept music transfers from the original iTunes PC. I have come to understand that an iPhone can have only one "daddy" iTunes PC, but have not been able to find out how to change the "daddy". I have done a backup of the iPhone, and a "Restore to Original Settings". Then I restored the content using the new iTunes PC. My Apps and contacts, etc. are back on the iPhone, but it still won't accept music from the new iTunes PC.

What happens when you try to sync the iphone to the new computer?

Do not use "mini" DVD's in any slot loading DVD drive.
Buy a cheap "tray loading" external DVD drive and attach it to your Mac.
