can i connect thunderbolt display to macpro i tried alot but its not supporting

Please tell us what model of Mac you really have. In the body of your post you refer to a Mac Pro, but your profile says you have a MacBook Pro and you've posted in the iMac forum. We need to know what you really have before we can offer any advice. We also need to know what "tried alot but it's not supporting" means.
Regards.

hi, i have a late 2008 15 inch macbook pro, which have a mini display port.
I noticed that thunderbolt and mini display port looks a like. So, my question is :
can i connect thunderbolt duo hard drive to the mini display port of a late 2008 macbook pro which do not have thunderbolt port, but have mini display port.
    thank you

    ken94538,
no, you’d need a Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter or Thunderbolt-to-USB adapter to be able to access your Thunderbolt hard drive from your 2008 MacBook Pro.

Can I connect more than 2 DVI or HDMI displays?
Mac Pro supports a total of two DVI or HDMI displays when connected via the built-in HDMI port or using the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. To connect additional DVI displays, use an active DVI adaptersuch as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. You can connect up to six active adapter DVI displays. This requires a powered USB hub since Mac Pro offers four USB ports and you will need six to connect them all.
    However, that article says:
Six Apple Thunderbolt Displays (27-inch), Apple LED Cinema Displays (27-inch), or third-party Mini DisplayPort displays.
So it appears you can with active dual-link DVI adopter or monitors with a display/min displayport connection.

Can I use 2 displays when I connect a 1920x1080 display through Thunderbolt to the 27 cinema display when it´s connected to the all new 13" Mac Book Air with thunderbolt?

Thank you, I have read that I could daisy chain the HD RAID enclosure on one of the thunderbolt ports with another monitor, if the monitor were at the end of the chain, but I do not know if the other port would still simultaneously support yet another external display at the same time.

  • Connecting Thunderbolt display to 2009 MacPro

I have a 2009 Macpro with the GT 120 graphics card which has a dvi and mini display port. Can the thunderbolt be connected to the mini display por? I'm not interested in the extra thunderbolt facilities.

Just like jhingston mentioned...  the new Thunderbolt display will Not work with the older (non-TB) computer.
As mentioned in the TB display Specs (on the Apple site)... the display REQUIRES a "Thunderbolt-Enabled Mac".

  • Gray-screen freeze when connection Thunderbolt display

When I connect my 27" Thunderbolt Display to my 15" Macbook Pro it freezes up and I get a gray screen.
But when I start-up without met TB Display I starts fine. What could be the problem?

    Welcome to AD!
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
Also here's a Gray Screen Apple doc.

  • Is it possible to connect Thunderbolt display to a PC (hp pavilion) modem?

Is this possible through some sort of adaptor? I have an old PC modem I need to run some programs, however it's currently hooked up to one of those huge CRT monitors from like 1998 and I'd like to free up some space.
Edit: for example could I somehow connect the modem to a device such as a laptop and then run the thunderbolt display through that?

The HP Pavilion is a computer, and not a modem. Or rather it is a computer with a built-in modem. So you already have a computer to run your programs and no other computer is needed.
About the display, a major advantage of the Thunderbolt display is a function of the Thunderbolt interface and its ability to support multiple I/O technologies including Thunderbolt, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2, and Firewire 800 in addition to the video signal. I know of no adaptor, or PC compatible display card that will enable all of that from a computer that was not built with Thunderbolt built in.
However, if you are primarily interested in the 27" display, then Apple's LED display will work quite nicely with an appropriate $35 adaptor available through the Apple Store. Which particular adaptor you need depends on the video output port on the PC. SInce you say it is an old HP Pavilion, it probably has a VGA or SVGA video port.

  • Is it possible to connect Thunderbolt display to older 17" MBP that has only a Mini displayPort?

    Hello all readers.
I'm in a dilemma, and your input and help will be appreciated.
So, in my household, we have 3 17" MBP we are usng. One has the Thunderbolt, but the other two has only a mini diplayPort (Unibody 2009 models).
I  want to buy the 27 " Cinema display (Thuderbolt) but am wondering, if the display can be used for hooking up all the MBP?.
Also the fact that I work remotely from home (I'm in IT). Sometimes I'd like to hookup Windows Laptops (Sorry for the W word) to the screen also.
Does the new 27" Thunderbolt display support this?.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.
    Cheers.

You cannot make a TB monitor work on machines that lack a TB port.
So, unfortunately, that's a no to both of your questions - unless your Windows laptop has a TB port.
If you want 1 display that will work with both mDP and TB laptops, you need the 27 LED Cinema display, Apple still sells them from their refurbished store.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't go into sleep mode after connecting Thunderbolt display

    Hi,
after connecting a Thunderbolt display to the 2011 MacBook Pro 13", the system doesn't stay in sleep mode.
When pressing cmd.alt.eject it goes into sleep for 1 or 2 seconds and then goes back on.
everything works fine otherwise and the MacBook goes to sleep without problems if the Thunderbolt display is not attached.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jordi

    I found the problem.
It turns out that it has nothing to do with the Thunderbolt Display, but with Bluetooth and the Magic Trackpad.
When I installed the TD, I also added a wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad that I had been using with another system.
If the option to allow the system to wake up by Bluetooth devices is enabled (system preferences, Bluetooth, advanced), the MacBook Pro will go to sleep and immediately wake up.
Simply disabled that option and everything works fine.
Now I need to open the lid of the MBP to wake up the system. Kind of a huge power button :-)
    Thanks for your help!
    Jordi

  • Connect Thunderbolt Display to Desktop Pc

Hi guys, i would like to know if is it possible to connect the T.D. to a desktop pc which i want to buy soon..if this pc has a mobo like this i mean:  http://www.asus.it/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V_PROTHUNDERBOLT/ or this http://it.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-GD80.html
I don't know much about thunderbolt technology, but i read on the web that it's not possible to use a minidisplayport cable, am i right?
    Thanks in advance!

I found the following review which has a video where the guy shows a PC running an Apple Thunderbolt display.  I found it helpful.  I'm personally going to swap out my existing motherboard for an ASUS Z87-Expert.  It's a difference of $80.00 from my existing MB.  A bit pricey, but at least it'll work.  :-)
