HT5219 Connecting macbook pro (retina) with a 27" imac.

I am having trouble finding information on how to connect my Macbook pro (retina) with my imac 27" using a thunderbolt cable. I know that it is possible but have been unsucessful so far.
Any help would be greatly appreacted!
Cheers

You did not remove your Windows partition correctly. You need to remove it using Boot Camp Assistant. If you cannot then you will need to repartition the entire drive back to a single partition/volume.

  • FaceTime on macbook pro retina with Mavericks

I have just bought a 15" macbook pro retina with Mavericks and FaceTime has never worked. My account works fine on my iPad and iPhone but macbook version just won't connect and says 'FaceTime call failed. Can anyone help?

    Hello there, alparkinsonpm.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up a few good steps for troubleshooting FaceTime on your Mac:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences. If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.
See Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a cable modem, DSL, or LAN Internet connection.
Consult Using FaceTime behind a firewall for necessary ports to open in firewalls, security software and routers.
If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.
Verify the phone number or email address being used is the correct one activated for FaceTime. You can verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
Verify that both parties have installed the latest software updates for their Mac and/or device. See:
Mac OS X: Updating your software

  • MacBook Pro Retina with a 500gb hard drive - 400gb storage space?

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with a 500gb hard drive. I recently deleted a windows 8 partition, and now my macbook says its total storage capacity is 399.42gb. Is this normal? Or am I missing 100gb storage space?
When I deleted the partition through boot camp, there was an error, but the boot camp partition seemed to have been deleted completely. I ran disk utility repair and single user mode command prompt /sbin/fsck -fy to make sure my disk was properly partitioned, but it still shows 399.42gb total storage in my "About This Mac".

You did not remove your Windows partition correctly. You need to remove it using Boot Camp Assistant. If you cannot then you will need to repartition the entire drive back to a single partition/volume.

  • Can't connect Macbook Pro Retina to Dell P2715q 4k Monitor

I received a new Dell 4k P2715q monitor on Friday.  It came with a mini DP to DP cable which I immediately hooked into the Thunderbolt port on my 15-inch, Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina.  It worked beautifully on Friday all through the day.  Was very happy with my purchase.
Took the laptop home over the weekend and brought it back today.... plugged into my thunderbolt port again and nothing.... Go HDMI to the monitor's HDMI and it works but only up to 1080p in 30hz which is no good.  So the monitor still seems to be working but the Macbook won't recognize the monitor through the Thunderbolt (mini DP) port.
Any thoughts?  Talked to Dell support which was worthless except to verify that the monitor didn't get fried over the weekend and also talked to Apple who suspected that it was maybe the mini DP cord that Dell sent with the monitor.  I can't believe that a cable went faulty over a weekend when no one else was in my office.....
    Thoughts?  Thanks ahead of time!

  • Macbook pro retina with external dvd or reg. macbook pro

I just received my new macbook pro retina display.  discovered did not have dvd drive.  stupidly did not figure that out prior.  Should I exchange it for a macbook pro with drive or is the external dvd drive as good?

OIt's true that the Retina model needs adapters for Ethernet and FireWire 800 connections - so there might be a mess of 'accesories' to haul around and keep track of. Personally, that's just one of the many reasons that I didn't leap at a 1st generation Retina model. You can always put an SSD into a standard, non-Retina, MBP. You can also add up to 16GB of RAM, just as on a Retina model. And it's much cheaper to DIY than to pay Apple prices.
Plus the optical drive is built-in.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • New MacBook Pro Retina with NEC 27 inch monitor

I've got a new MacBook Pro Retina and I'm trying to use it with my NEC 27 monitor. I connected the two via Apple DVI to Thunderbolt adaptor, but I can only get the monitor to operate at 1500 pixels with the MacBook Pro even though my monitor supports 2560x1440pixels. This is really frustrating since I purchase this lapto to use with my monitor. Any advice?  Thanks, Lucian

When going to the 2560x1440 ( or 1600) resolution you will need the dual-link DVI adapter (along with a dual link DVI cable, of course).   The single link will work...but at lower resolutions.

  • Macbook pro retina with 2 monitors

i'm considering switching to macbook pro retina.  will it support 2 external thunderbolt monitors independantly with different programs operating on each?

I haven't tried it, but the official answer appears to be "yes":
"Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors"
"Two Thunderbolt ports (up to 10 Gbps)"
All three displays can become one extended desktop. Windows for various applications can be spread among them as you prefer, assuming the applications do nothing to prevent it.

  • Macbook Pro Retina with Samsung 2053BW

I recently bought a Macbook Pro Retina that I was planning to use with my Samsung 2053 22" monitor (1650x1050) and bought a MiniDisplay Port aswell.
However I can not seem to get this monitor to work with the Macbook Pro.
The Samsung monitor works fine with my windows desktop and has done so for years.
I also went to the local applestore here and got them to test both my MiniDisplay Port with an external monitor with my DVI-D cable aswell.
They did not test it with my Macbook Pro Retina as I did not bring it, but will most likely go and get them to test that also.
Though I think the problem is with the compatability between the macbook and the samsung display.
Does anyone have anything else I can try or suggestions for my problem? I have also tried resetting the pram without any results.

You did not remove your Windows partition correctly. You need to remove it using Boot Camp Assistant. If you cannot then you will need to repartition the entire drive back to a single partition/volume.

  • Macbook pro retina with ghost image problem

Can i claim my retina display that have ghost image problem?

Hi there, I had the same problem with my Macbook Pro 15`` Retina. And here is how you can find out if you have ghost image problem. There are two retina display manufacturers for Macbook Pro Retina`s LG and Samsung. And if you are luck you will have the Samsung Retina Display on your mac. Here is how you can find the manufacturer for you Macbook.
Go to your Applications folder and launch Terminal. Paste in the following and hit return:
    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
Look at the beginning of the second line to see which manufacturer made your display. If it starts with LP then you have an LG display. Samsung displays start with LSN.
If your display shows LP you might have this problem for sure. So here is how you can test your screen.
A simple test to check your Retina MacBook Pro display for image retention also reported as "ghosting"
    http://www.mitchmalone.name/retina-test/
Run the test for 10 Min. and you will find out if you have this problem.
And if you have it, and if you are still under waranty the Apple will replace the display with Samsung for free of charge. I hope this information helps.

  • No Sound: Macbook Pro (Retina) with HP Monitor

I just got an HP Envy 23 monitor to use with my Retina Macbook Pro and so far it's been a serious struggle. The problem I'm focusing on today is sound. The monitor has a Beats Audio headphone jack. Headphones are plugged in but my Macbook claims "The selected device has no output controls" and there is no sound at all. The monitor and laptop are connected via an HDMI cable. Is this the problem? I don't want to have to return the monitor, but it seems like I could wind up spending hundreds of dollars on cables and adapters to figure out the right combination to get sound and a clear picture. Ugh.
Thanks for any help or guidance.

HERE is the manual for a HP ENVY 23 IPS monitor, which may be the one in question or just a similar one, but from reading the specs I have to believe it does not have speakers.  While reading the description, it could lead the user to assume there are speakers: "HP ENVY 23 23-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor with Beats Audio" but it must just be an audio processing thing.
