With Apple doing away with hosting my podcasts created with GarageBand, will I be able to submit future podcasts that will appear in iTunes?

GarageBand wil make the actual recording of your podcast, together with chapter markers and images if you want an 'enhanced' audio podcast. It will not make the feed. It's designed to work directly with iWeb, which itself can post to any hosting service; but the file you save out of GarageBand can be used with any podcast creation program or service.
However you need to distinguish between the different types of image. The images that GarageBand adds to the file are visible when you subscribe to the feed in iTunes as they are actually embedded in the media file. The image which appears on the Store page, and the data such as categories, subtitles and so on, is all in the feed and GarageBand does not and never has provided these. If you work with iWeb you can add those details there to produce the feed, or other methods will provide places you can enter the data.
In your own interests, when you have a question please start a new thread rather than tacking on to an old one - this one is months old and indeed the OP's problem is not the same as yours. Questions about GarageBand itself are best asked in the GarageBand forum, and about podcasting in the Producing Podcast forum - you're in the iCloud forum and iCloud has nothing to do with this as it does not offfer website hosting.

What's up with Garageband 4 (iLife '08)????

I just loaded my new GarageBand '08 and found that it takes an extremely long time to load if at all. I did all of the upgrades , uninstalled the new app and repeated the process again. I found that if I wait until all of the categories are loaded on the top bar, then I could click on the GarageBand icon for a 2nd time and "voila!" it opens. THIS SHOULDN'T BE! What's up with that?? I even discarded the prefs - no change.

Podcasts created in GarageBand: Deliver via iWeb, iTunes store, or what?

I am a professor who is beginning to podcast. What is the best way to make my GarageBand-generated podcasts available to all of my students (including PC users), both as downloadable files and streaming files?
Last semester, I sent the podcast files as AACs from GarageBand to iWeb. A few students reported problems: some were unable to subscribe to the podcast, and others were unable to play the episodes on their mp3 players.
What are the PC compatibility issues I need to consider in order to insure that all of my students can download/subscribe? They can all listen to the streaming audio, but obviously this isn't as convenient as putting the file on their mp3 player. I thought that asking them all to download iTunes would do the trick, but apparently that does not solve the problem. Does submitting the podcasts to the iTunes store provide any accessibility benefits?

What I would do--since everyone can access the .mp3 files--is send from GarageBand to iTunes. From there convert to .mp3.
When you use iWeb to upload the file, use your media window to pull up audio>iTunes>.mp3filename and drag it in to your podcast page. Everyone should be able to access it just fine.
To convert to .mp3 in iTunes go to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing(it's a tab) and change from "AAC" to "mp3 Encoder" in the drop down menu. Then choose the file in your iTunes library and "Convert to mp3" under the Advanced menu. **Note, you will see TWO files with the same name. Check the extensions to see which is the .mp3 file. I usually delete the other to omit confusion later.

I just got finished with a 6-minute song on Garageband, using several of the jam packs and multiple tracks, and now, on the LAST beat of the song, Garageband is adding a "sustain" to the last piano chord. Instead of just a sharp release as I played it. Anyone experienced this? So the chord just keeps echoing on forever...

Did you inadvertently stop recording before you released the sustain pedal? If it is the sustain, a workaround would be to try recording a tiny sustain pedal down-up right after your preexisting region on the same track, and see if that clears the pedal.
Offhand, I'm not sure if GB lets you access sustain data directly - if so, that would be a more direct way of fixing it.

Single black frame in enhanced podcast rendered in GarageBand.

When a podcast created in Garageband is exported or shared with itunes, the resultant .mov and .m4a are jpeg w/aac and will have occasional black frame at a chapter marker.
The chapters are created by droping images into the podcast track. These tiff images created from grab captures of screen shots. The audio is an mp3.
Anybody have any suggestions or ideas of cause?
OS and iLife are uptodate.

Hi there, thanks for your advices. Unfortunately, none of them worked out.
The problem must be at some point where the screenpast part gets rendered out of Premiere. I recorded the screencast in Camtasia, rendered it out as an MP4 with H.264, imported the clip to Premiere, editetd everything together with other footage, and when exporting it out of Premiere (no matter what format), it all got messed up.
So I did the screencast again, the settings where the same and "suddenly" (well, after hours of swearing and rendering) the black frame was gone after the Premiere render. Still don't know what the actual problem was. Just hope it doesn't happen again because it's such a waste of time with all the rendering.

Enhanced .m4a created in Garageband breaks iTunes feed, why?

I have a blog on Blogger, upload video on Blip.tv, cross post to Blogger blog, created RSS in Feedburner, submitted to iTunes, everything works fine until....I add a link to a .m4a enhanced podcast created in Garageband.....ping Feedburner, ping iTunes...update podcast subscription in iTunes...then feed shows as broken...any thoughts?
The enhanced podcast I've created in Garageband has audio, pictures, and web URLs.
Anyone have any idea why this breaks my iTunes feed?
I have successfuly subscribed to my video podcast in iTunes using .mov files uploaded to blip, cross-posted to blog/RSS feed, but whenever I add a .m4a created in Garageband, it breaks my iTunes feed???
What am I missing here?

I'm going to reply to my own message. After spending some time trying to solve this problem, I found an application called Chapter Maker in the App Store. It is reasonably priced and once you have turned your podcast sent to iTunes into a movie by opening it in QuickTime, you can either just show it through QuickTime on your desktop or laptop computer, or if you want it to work in iTunes the way it used to work, you can send it from QuickTime to iMove (go to file/Export to... iMovie) where you can then export it as a movie to your desktop and open in Chapter Maker where you can add the chapter headings back in to the podcast and Export it. You can then add it back into the movie folder in iTunes where you can see the visuals in full screen and navigate through the chapters quickly.
I also tried this out by connecting my iPad to my computer and moving the movie into my iPad. While it doesn't have the chapters visible to navigate quickly to a chapter heading, you can touch the play screen and drag it to the places you need to review. Not as nice as the old iOS version, but it also does show the visual screen using the full screen of the iPad.
As I mentioned earlier, on my older iPod, I am able to view the visuals in full screen and by touching the list at the top right, it turns over to navigate through chapters with clearly labeled headings.
I use this to study topics for myself and also to pass on information to students.
I do wish they had kept the old version the way it was, but guess that's the way things go.
Check out the application in the App Store called Chapter Maker if you are looking for the same solution to this problem. Even if you aren't, it's an easy way to add sections to any video.

ITunes 7.7 and iPod Shuffle - What's up with the Podcasts Playlist?

I think that lots of the problems that people are having are a result of whatever changed in iTunes 7.7. After updating to the newest version of iTunes, my Shuffle wouldn't play and would only flash green-orange-orange (indicating that there was nothing on the Shuffle.) I noticed a new playlist called Podcasts, so I moved my podcasts there and the Shuffle played them fine, but I couldn't access any music. It seems that only the Podcast playlist is active.
In troubleshooting, I accidentally deleted the Podcast playlist and this meant I could switch between podcasts and regular music again. However, I lost the ability to manually sort my podcasts. I've had this problem before and resolved it by rebuilding the iTunes library. This time this didn't help - I futzed around for hours trying to get this essential feature (manual sort) working again. I deleted and re-installed iTunes, re-built the library and library.xml files multiple times, reset the Shuffle countless times (both from within iTunes and with the stand-alone utility) and swung the dead chicken three times over my head.
Nothing worked until I moved my music files to my desktop and deleted the iTunes folder from my music folder. I then re-built the library from the folder on the desktop (this caused the music files to be copied to the iTunes folder, rather than just creating the iTunes library) and manually re-subscribed to my podcasts. Once I did this, I could again manually sort my Podcasts into whatever order I wanted.
An interesting thing I noticed.... no matter what I re-installed or how many times I reset the Shuffle, the Podcast playlist never appeared again. Anyone know where to find any documentation on this Podcasts playlist and what it is supposed to do?

I wondered about this playlist too when I first saw it, didn't see the need for it until I discovered my ipod would no longer play my podcasts. So far haven't tried music but adding them to this playlist means I can now listen to them.
i hate the fact that when you start itunes it simply tells you there is a new version and if you don't update it keeps bugging you without any way to see what the update is for! Where are the release notes? Other than turning off auto update there's no way to avoid this annoyance. I wish apple would simply tell us what has changed so we know if we must upgrade or if it's simply a handy feature update. in the case of 7.7 I wouldn't have updated if I read the forums first and from now on, auto update is off and I'll simply check on my own schedule for updates and if one is found will read the forums as these are the source of info since apple gives nothing.
I would think that Apple would have gotten about 15 people with all different ipods (wouldn't be hard to get them) and simply get each one to update to the latest version of itunes without supervision or info and see if anyone reports issues. Surely one of them would have said "Hey what's this new podcasts playlist thing?" and they would have thought, maybe a release notes would be needed here...

The disc WAS injected when I first discovered that. It doesn't sto garageband (maybe other apps too) from reading & opening the files.

After the resent sys update to Elipsis 7 KitKat, I can no longer add, rename, move, copy, create files or folders to my SD. What's up with that?

There is no such thing as a stupid question. With Kitkat you are very limited in what you can do on the sd card, an app can write to its own folder on the sd card only, here is a little more info here How to bypass Android 4.4 (KitKat) external SD write restrictions without root
You are basically restricted to writing to a single folder per app on the sd card. The other option is to move things by connecting your device to a computer and using it.

What do you use to create distributable packages with ARD?

What do you use to create distribution packages for ARD?
I.E. a package for installing the new Oracle Java 7.21 on all our machines.
Or, a package for installing Micosoft Office 14.3.2 udapters?
Specifically for 10.7 and 10.8 users.
Install Ease?
Jamf Composer?
Packages?
xCode PackageMaker?
Which one should I put my time into using?

Nicolas, Have you been able to get the Adobe Update to work? I get stopped at the first step, putting in the command-line to install the AUS2.0. I think we have a support Contract, i should probably just ask Adobe for assistance.
Does noboby create their own distributable packages? Maybe i'm looking at this wrong.
I see that even Microsoft puts their updates into a .pkg file that is pushable through ARD. Maybe most everyone else does?
I was able to get an Adobe Flash Player Distributable installer, from Adobe, you have to fill out a form asking for permission for the distributable installer, and they send you a link to the files.. ugh. but fine. I have the .pkg installer for Flash, and that works pushing out over ARD.

I guess my life would be great, if i can just get a Updater source for CS5.5 and CS6.
I did create the Adobe Package distribution for actually installing the CS6 over ARD. That works.
I have a licensing glitch on deploying new machine off a build that has CS6 on it. I'm able to get around the licensing glitch by using the Adobe Serialization tool, that's fine.
I guess i'm just looking for a CS6 Updates tool. I'm fine creating a CS6 updater package using InstallEase or something. I'm wondering what the best one is.
IF most everything already comes as a .pkg file nowadays, and it's just Adobe that's difficult. I guess there's not really a need to create .pkg files for anyone? So nobody really uses them?
