HT5242 Where do I download Java for OS X Lion 2012-003?

I've read this online article about Java for OS X Lion 2012-003, but I do not see where I can download and install it.  Any idea where it can be downloaded?

To install software updates on OS X:  > Software Update
If the Apple Java update is not offered, then you don't have Java installed (and Java is not installed by default on 10.7), or you're on a release of OS X prior to 10.6 (no patch available), or you're using a local Software Update Server or local Reposado server and it hasn't cached the Apple upate yet.  (And if you don't know what the Software Update Server or Reposado servers provide, then you're probably not one of those.)
Here's the most recent Apple update on this: About the security content of Java for OS X 2012-003 and Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8 (HT5247)
This particular Java 2012-003 download apparently hasn't reached the Apple downloads servers yet, based on some of the chatter, so there's not yet a place to download it other than via Software Update.  (And that assumes you need the patch, and many folks - those without Java installed - don't need it.)

You can download and install from the following website:

  • HT5242 When is Java for OS X Lion 2012-003 available for download?

Ars Technica published an article to an apple support link about the Java update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5242) but, I have yet to find a way to download it (either through Software Update or direct download).

Note that if you need to install Java then you want to download the security update to protect your computer from the extant malware. And, also then see:
    Helpful Links Regarding Flashback Trojan
A link to a great User Tip about the trojan: Flashback Trojan User Tip
A related link in the tip to a checker: Malware Checker Dowload Link
Another excellent reference on malware: Mac Malware Guide
A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started.
For now I recommend the User Tip from etressoft to detect and remove or one of the following:
Checking for and removing the "Flashback" trojan
Kaspersky Flashback Trojan Site:Flashback Trojan Detection and Removal
    F-Secure Tool: Flashback Removal Tool
Also see Apple's article About Flashback malware.
But if you don't need Java then you should be OK. Just be sure that if you download Adobe's Flashplayer, that you do so only from Adobe's website to be sure you are getting the real thing.

  • Java for OS X Lion 2012-003 SHA 1 digest does not match posted value

I've downloaded the latest Java update ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1515 ) several times and I always get the same sha1 digest which is different from the one posted on the download page.
    The one I get is:
    SHA1: 4e6fce49e9a3e07533398af8d8b0327136feead5
    The one posted is:
    SHA1: f3a37aaeace6731c427c76b277c8741d9d6e0220
    Anyone having the same problem?
    Cheers.

Thanks guys. It was kind of odd as even after reseting Safari I was still getting the old sha1 value but on my iPad I was getting the correct one. The MBP is using Google's public DNS servers and my iPad is using the ones provided by my ISP.
As of a couple of minutes ago I get the correct SHA1 value on my MBP as well so the update probably took a few minutes to get through Google's DNS servers.
And just to prove I wasn't going mad

  • HT5055 Java for OS X Lion 2012-001 - causing security risks rather than fixing them???

I've downloaded Java for OS X Lion 2012-001 to fix the security issues with Java but when I open it to install it gives me an error message saying don't open it as it has a disk image issue (?) and may make my computer less secure or cause other issues? I don't understand why it would cause security risks when it is supposed to be a patch to fix them?!  Is it safe to go ahead and open/install?

Could that be why Apple has released Java for OS X Lion 2012-002 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1515 ?

Somebody answered this "You can simply re-download it and delete the corrupted file image", about the Java update for OS X Lion 2012-001 . My question is how do you do that? How do you delete the corrupt image?

Just drag it to the Trash. Then use Software Update for the latest version.

  • HT5228 HT5228: About the security content of Java for OS X Lion 2012-002 and Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7

Is it recommended to install this update? I'm using a Macbook Pro (late 2011), OS X Lion 10.7.3
I ran software update today and this security update didn't even show up in the items to be installed. Someone (i.e. Bob Harris from another thread) mentioned that "Software Update ONLY downloads and installs the patch if you actually have Java installed; it is not installed by default on 10.7" (see thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3853951?tstart=0). Does this mean I don't even have to install this update, since I don't have Java installed? Because I honestly don't know if I have Java installed or not. I'm not exactly a techie.
    Thanks.

Does this mean I don't even have to install this update, since I don't have Java installed?
    yes
The update provides a fixed Java.  If you do not have Java installed and do not want Java installed, then applying the update would result in installing the Java you did not want nor need, hence Software Update did not try to install the Java update.
There are valid reasons for having Java installed on your system, but only if you have a need.  For example, there are some 3rd party utilities that are implemented using Java (a programming language).  On rare instances, there are some web sites that use Java (very rare these days) to give you an interactive experience, and you happen to want/need to work with that web site.
But for the most part Java is not needed, which is why Apple no longer installs Java by default.
If you have Java installed, then System Preferences -> Software Update -> Check Now, will offer you the Java update.  If it isnot installed, Software Update will not offer the update.

  • Java for OS X Lion 2012-001

There seems to be a problem with this update.
I first tried to download it using Software Update on my two Macs running 10.7.3, but it was not avaialble. I was told there were no new upadtes at that time (minutes ago).
I then downloaded the update form Apple's support page and checked the checksum, which was fine. However, when I clicked on the dmg file, a a box opened up saying "There may be a problem with this disk image. Are you sure you want to open it? Opening this disk image may make your computer less secure or cause other problems." There were 2 buttons in that window: Open and Don't Open. Don't Open was the highlighted option.
I decided not to install the update under those conditions. I downloaded the dmg file via Safari, Chrome, and Firefox just in case, but predictabley the problem remained. Is the dmg file corrupt? How come this security update is not avaialbe via software update?
Some other people reported experiencing this on McUpdate as well.
    Any explanations, anyone?

    Hi All,
This is a follow-up on this issue and a solution after talking to an Apple tech support senior advisor who was not aware of the issue (I am still covered by the Lion warranty). This step-by-step method solves the problem. It is as explicit as possible to help less experienced users as well.
Go to your Utilities folder and open Java Preferences.
It will ask you to install a Java runtime. Do this; it' s OK, and it's needed.
In the Java Preferences window, click "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications".
In the Safari preferences under Security, enable Java (by clicking the checkbox).
Go to Terminal and type java -vesion and press return (thanks Barney-15E) and /or
Go to htttp://javatester.org/version.html (Thanks to the Apple Senior Advisor for this tip). Under "Method 1: Ask Java", you should see a blue box that includes a pink one with the updated version of Java. ("Java Version 1.6.0_31 from Apple Inc.")
You can then decide to disable Java in the Safari preferences (under Security) if you so wish.

Where can I download Java version 1.6.0_26-b03-384 for Mac OSX 10.6.8, please? I cannot find it anywhere on the internet and i need it because Firefox is complaing that the plug-in is inactive which is BS.
    Thanks.

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1637588.h tml
    (which is for Java 7)
    Further information here:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1735645
    and their FAQ’s:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/mac-faq.html
The recently discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.
You should disable Java (if not already done) until either the US Department of Homeland Security, or Oracle, declare it safe and Apple restore the facility. Oracle have released an update said to fix the security flaw, available from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.h tml
Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).
However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality.
